Another good video. The hydraulic brake trucks (no-lift gate) are "residential" trucks. I always request a lift-gate equipped truck, to ensure I end up with one with air brakes. Granted there are a few odd balls in the fleet, I have seen an F650 like mentioned in the previous comments, with a gas engine and a lift gate and hydraulic brakes.
@crazyjdkid7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I can get these non-lift gate trucks $45 a day from Penske. The lift gate ones I get at $125/day. Big price difference. Ryder on the other hand will give me a truck from the other video you commented on, that is CDL rated with a lift and air ride/seats/brakes for $99/day. Penske has had all kinds of law suits about there liftgate trucks and the idiots they rent them to who cut there limbs off because they have no idea how to use them.
@granitedude3337 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's not a bad deal, around here it's typically the opposite, Ryder was always much more the Penske any time I called. And I can understand the liability with a liftgate truck.
@crazyjdkid7 жыл бұрын
Yeah Ryder doesn't discount at all. But I rent from Ryder and Penske in Downtown Atlanta so that's why the prices where a bit odd. Truck rental prices always are higher in October.

I did wish if you pro camera was a little low, so I can see the steering wheel and the way you turn, is the steering range limit is the same like freightliner or less? Showing the sun shader has no benefit , but the wheel and the movements of the hand add a lot to the action, and teach me a lot. Thanks it's beautiful and interesting video anyway.

I am frustrated that it pointed at the visor like that as well! The problem is is that my GoPro does not have a screen, so I sort of have to guess where its pointed at. I can look at my phone to see it but I end up looking down a bit when I look at the phone and it looks good through that. The next one I make, if there is a next one, I will try my best to ensure that more of the controls and cab are visible. Personally I like the steering on the Freightliner M2 better, the turning radius is smaller and the steering wheel has more spokes on it. The International only has two so your very limited on where you can rest your hand. Here is a link to a video I think you would like, it pretty much shows the entire cab while I drive including the steering wheel! kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6S1aWZnp5Zpd5I Thanks again for watching and I am glad you found it interesting!

I may rent one of these for a move across country. Is there anything I should know about fueling up other than the obvious fact that it takes diesel? Will I need to fill up the DEF tank for a 3,600 mile trip? Can I stop at regular gas stations for fuel or will I need to use those fuel stations meant for big semi trucks? I will be towing a car as well so I'm concerned about pulling in at regular gas stations.
@crazyjdkid5 жыл бұрын
You can go to whatever fuel station you feel comfortable driving into. You can use normal gas stations or large truck stops, as long as they have diesel. It may be easier to drive into a large fuel station though. Frankly, having the diesel truck makes it easier as you do have the option to use the semi truck lanes which gives you a lot more space to turn around and pull up to the pump. You will probably need to fill up the DEF once on a 3600mi trip. It has a pump just like fuel at most large truck stops, just make sure to put it in the DEF tank. Or you can buy a bottle of it at like Walmart or a gas station. All this sounds like a lot but honestly you will get the hang of driving the truck within like 20 minutes and you will probably enjoy it being high up. Diesel goes into the diesel tank DEF goes into the diesel tank, don't mix them and you will have no issues.

This specific truck was funded by the channel viewers like you! This truck wasn't too bad with corners, its radius was worse than the Freightliner though!

Can you do a video in the Ryder truck but come in Lawrenceville
@crazyjdkid8 жыл бұрын
The video I had did with the Ryder truck was done in Norcross GA and Atlanta. Like I tell many others who request, these trucks are very expensive to rent.You have to think about things like fuel/DEF cost ($3 every 10 miles), insurance($40 per day), daily rates ($125 per day), per mileage charges($1 per mile driven) and taxes ($30 a day). Add that up and your looking at a good $300 to go 100 miles. And I have to pay for that, unless I am doing a job for someone. I accept donations to the channel, but as much as I love these videos and making them I simply cannot afford to go out every few days and rent one. Thanks!

which cab is quieter the IH or M2 cab?... no doubt that you like the Allison Trans. Do you think the IH with a Cummings and Allison as quiet as the M2 that has a cummings and Allison?
@crazyjdkid8 жыл бұрын
The M2 is definitely quieter! Both these videos where filmed with the same camera so the sound will be comparative. I think the IH would be a lot quieter with the Cummins. The DT is a very very loud engine and very unrefined in today's standards. The Freightliner does have Air Brakes so you hear a bit more of the compressor in that one.

@crazyjdkid5 жыл бұрын
Yes, a driver's license and a passport would be fine. They require two documents to prove identity. You will need a credit card to pay a deductible as well. Other than that you are good to go.

Yes, a CDL Class B with an Air Brake endorsement is needed for that truck.

+crazyjdkid They gave me a freightliner with the lift gate and air breaks, it was not CDL Required. But they are giving me a punk ass international for my next truck ugh, how do they ride. I'm use to the Freightliner M2 106
@crazyjdkid8 жыл бұрын
If your getting an International you better hope they give you one with the Cummins! They sit much higher and are much smoother. These older DT powered trucks ride rough and arn't air ride.

+crazyjdkid ok gotcha. Years ago when we had hydraulic brakes we had tons of trouble with the "brake press" light and beeper going off intermittently.

+Glyn Robinson For some reason the brakes on this truck where way better than the other one. When the other one downshifted it's like the breaks weren't even on, it kept pulling. The parking brake lever is a pain to pull up to. Listen to these first world problems lol.
