Truck Tour | Western Star 5700 XE
Ever wondered what the inside of a big truck looks like? Better yet, ever wondered what the inside of a Western Star 5700 XE looks like? If you said yes to either one of those, you came to the right place! In this video, I give a detailed look into what my new (new to me) truck looks like, and my thoughts about how it operates. Enjoy!

Hey guys I would like to say that I greatly appreciate the number of people who took the time to correct the silliest mistake I've ever made... EVER. Honestly I feel so embarrassed. But in my defense I was beyond tired from the extended days and sleep schedule changes I've had these past weeks. It has been straight torture. I have also not been part of the editing process due to the high volume of work I've had during this time. So no chance to catch it before it went live. Ok now to the mistake... The trailer brake valve mentioned in the video, applies the service brakes of the trailer, not the spring (parking) brakes of the trailer. It works almost opposite of what I stated in this video. Pulling the lever supplies air to the service line, and essentially the air pressure supplied determines the pressure that the service brakes are applied. The brake mechanism I mention is what the little red trailer brake button does. :) Stay safe out there everyone!

As a professional driver for almost 30 years, I want to give aspiring drivers some advice. Once you have experience, and feel confident, don't take abuse from employers. Know your worth and don't work for less. Don't get yourself in desperate financial position where you can't look elsewhere for employment. Capitalism is a nasty business, and those in power are always trying to bleed you. If you are young and want to work overtime and save money to invest, that is a good plan. Invest in property you can rent out while on the road. Eat healthy and exercise everyday. And listen to educational podcasts and audiobooks on a variety of subjects. You can get a college level education with all the material available. Keep your eyes on the road and don't hit anything. Never stop learning and growing.

BTW I work 40 hrs a week doing local drop and hooks within a 100 mile radius of central NJ and make $1200 gross, $30/hr. I did better hauling cars, but it's more stress. Driving is a serious important role in society. We need to support each other and stick together (union) and make sure we can receive a liable compensation.

Trucks broke you back in the day according to my Uncle. He ended his career in a Freightliner and said the ride/sleeping was like floating on air. He had to get out 10 years or so ago after falling off a trailer and fucking has back up. He loved it though and I've been contemplating picking up the profession. He's been solid info for me :)

I am a huge Western Star Truck fan!!! I had a 4964 EX with a 600 Cat, 18 sp, double frame, 46,000 lb rears, 12,500 lb front axle, 373 gear ratio, 262" Wheelbase with Hendrickson Air Ride suspension. It rode like a Cadillac or a Royals Royce. I loved that truck. I had a swivel front seats and a 76" walk-in sleeper. Mine was the 2000 Constellation Series. Good luck with your truck. I feel you will not want to drive anything else after the Westernstar trucks. I do not.

Respect from an old trucker. You can tell you know what you doing by sharing the info of what every thing does, from the switches to how your safety devices work. Also you can tell this is a womans truck, way more organized and cleaner than my truck ever was. Mine looked like a cleaned up dorm room. Keep that rubber side down and be safe!

As a college graduate back in 1979 I spent 5 years (started in74) getting my BBA in Management. I'm almost 70, retired and pensioned, I worked for a fortune 100 company. I'm not boasting but if you are young and you are driving a Semi you are in an industry that is cutthroat, Romanized, & easy to get into. It will take many years of driving to earn excellent money. Go to a University, forget this. I paid for my cousin's funeral, a diehard trucker who died at the age of 54 due to kidney trouble dressed in a coffin with his favorite Trucker's outfit, chains and all.

Black kodiak media your videos are so well done. Yall both make and awesome team! Keep it up girl! Your channel is taking off so fast and it's hard work but yall deserve everything that's going to come with KZbin! Stay safe and be careful. This Coronavirus is spreading unfortunately. Just got a call today from my schools school staying they are now closed for the rest of the year. They also said they aren't sure yet if they will be going back in the fall. I live in Virginia and people have went nuts! I finally was able to get toilet paper. My son is so bummed out bc his birthday is in three days and we had to cancel everything. Big 14 anyway I love yall and keep the videos coming! 😊❤🙏🚛❤

I wouldn't say daytime running lights or "driving lights" are only for cool looks, they're more as a daily substitute for the headlights so the car would still be more easily noticeable, but you won't wear out the headlight bulbs so quickly. Just my little bit regarding that :D

The driving light switch is actually for when you turn on the high beams. It's an additional set of lights in the bumper or the moose bumper.

DLRs are also mandatory as standard equipment in most Countries. As someone in Canada, the visibility DRLs make, even in clear daytime, is magnitudes better. Drives me nuts when I encounter an older vehicle or a vehicle where someone disabled the fuse/re-coded the system.

Thank you Jean for writing this very informative comment from your 30 years of experience. I lost my job in data analytics during covid, and I've decided to make a career change. I am just now starting CDL school at a private school, and What you said/the advice you gave, was exactly in my head what my plan is, I want to truck for about 3 years at minimum, and grow my capital and invest. I don't have a wife or kids so I thought that will be a good thing in this aspect. Also one thing though I am worried about it my eating habits and inability to excersize while on the road, but your Comment inspired me and made me feel confident in my plan and goals.

⏰ *My dad used a Screaming Meanie alarm Which has different volume settings. The loudest one is extremely loud. There’s two different versions of the unit as far as I know, one operates like a standard alarm where are you program and the time and then program in what time you wanna wake up, and the other one you just program in how many hours and minutes in the future you want to go off.*

I still don’t trust the radar systems in these trucks. I’ve heard too many stories from these things picking up overpasses and slamming in the brakes. They are great for cars, but the distance it has to watch on trucks is just too far and it has to be too sensitive.

Trailer brake handle works great if your slipping down a hill in the snow and the trailer pushing ya sideways. Grab a handful of trailer brakes and you'll straighten out 😀
