So many videos out there talking about the 2021 Freightliner Cascadia. I felt like none of them really talked about the cool new features exclusively available on ONLY the new models. So let's dive in and I'll show you what all the hype is about!

Lane keep assist is awesome for highways and high winds. Just have to remember to turn it off in cities and twisty roads. Not a fan of 100% power steering. Not feeling the road through your fingers - the only skin touching the vehicle - you might miss out on losing traction. Which in snow can be VERY dangerous

Just a bit of advice from someone who has successfully lived off-grid for 20 yrs in my own rig, (and even longer before that in Outback Australia). Use full sine-wave inverters, not modified-sine wave (the cheaper ones). The modifieds are "dirty" electrical wave forms and will eat up the electronics and motors in your microwaves and fridgies. They wreck AC power bricks ( e.g. laptops) faster as well, often overheating them. Also, avoid the "blown fuse" dilemma out on the road by using 12V re-settable circuit breakers. More expensive, but they'll last forever. Since I drive solo, I tend to sit longer so I have a small APU when necessary, but usually my solar setup keeps my batteries charged. Since her trucks will be running constantly with team drivers, keeping batteries charged is not as much of an issue. But all in all, she is really setting her drivers up for success. So good to see in this industry. Bloody hell, I'm even tempted to go drive for her.

All right. Hear me out. I`m a straight female, so although I realize how beautiful Shelby is, I`m not attracted to her. I have absolutely nothing to do with trucking whatsoever. Like at all! I`m not considering it as my career, I don`t have any friends or family members doing this. And very much a cat person, so I`m not here for the dog (but I like her, and those like transcriptions of her thoughts... that warms my heart) BUT I`VE BEEN STUCK HERE FOR A FEW MONTHS!! And I can`t wait for every new video, re-watch some of them, absolutely love them. Both vlogs and specific truck-stuff. I mean... THIS IS SOME KIND OF MAGIC! Love what you do!

I come from a family of three generations of truck drivers. All male with one exception, a tow trucker. Here in Sweden, there´s a screaming demand for new truck drivers, regardless of gender. Since most of us soon are about to get retired. And to replace them with new ones and change the picture of a typical truck driver female drivers are wanted. You and Angelica Larsson mean a lot to change the pictures of trucking of today. You are both so positive and informative in your own personalized ways. I haven't gotten to the inside of the truck yet in the video but my company bought new trucks and they have a "lane assist" feature when on cruise control to help you stay between the lines but it's so effing scary I have to turn it off every time. it's like when you bump a curb and your steering wheel tries to jerk out of your hands. the truck is constantly pulling the wheel away and trying to keep itself where it thinks the lane is... that's gonna get people killed. the lane departure warning is tied into that too so even if it's shut off it'll fight you if it thinks you're leaving your lane, scary shit on curves, my state likes to fill cracks instead of repairing the roads so the lane sensors are totally useless
@iCodyonline
@iCodyonline 3 жыл бұрын
The new 2021 freightliners have so many electron except beep at you, it’s more likely to keep them awake. If it doesn’t sense any tension on the steering wheel it beeps at you, if you get close to one of the lines it beeps at you, and it’s not just a little beep it is an annoyingly loud beep.

I've driven almost every thing except a semi. The reason being? I've seen a few accidents in my many years on the road. And I shy away from driving those vehicles. However? my respect for the drivers of such goes with out saying.. I prefer the straight trucks, OTR and Regional. One piece of equipment under me. And no jackknifing. And in todays world? They come just as well equipped as a tractor. Safety features included. I love trucking in general. Hence my owning two businesses in the industry back in the day. I'm retired now, But the "bug" never left me. I got tired of just sitting around. So here I go...back into the industry again. I love it. Being on the road and seeing this beautiful country. Meeting awesome kind people. Yeh...To me? That's what being on the road is all about. Truckers are a special breed of people. They're the backbone of this country. And from my experience? They are the soul of the transportation industry... around the world. Good Luck on your adventure young lady. Be well and may the wind be at your back!

I keep seeing videos showing less than 1 year old Freightliner Cascadias having lots of little problems (switches not working, gauges not working, warning lights being active when computer check shows no issues) that would drive me crazy and take the truck off the road to check... costing money. I like Freightliner... but worry there's a lot of cost cutting in newer models.

Is there a chance that by having all the driver assist upgrades drivers will become too relaxed or complacent over time and lose some of their skills? For example, commercial airline pilots have said that all the new electronic and other upgrades may reduce pilots' ability to handle the plane in adverse or unusual conditions. Thank you for the great video.

The less you actually 'drive' the truck in normal conditions, the less you will recognize when something is not normal and the less you will know how to deal with it. Even scarier is the people who will use these devices in adverse weather conditions thinking it will keep them safer.

There ramp supports so if the trailer is to low, you can slowly get close to the trailer, and if they hit the front of the trailer, then you need to drop your air bags, they will go under the trailer more safely, once you are connected to your fifth wheel, then you always, ALWAYS, bring your air bags" UP before you begin to pull your trailer" and a good rule of thumb, is get out and always check before you move your equipment! Another thing i see you don't have any APU'S on your tractors! That would save you a whole lot of money on fuel!

The reason the dump valve was invented was to stop drivers from BLOWING OUT the Air Bags on the rear of the truck. It doesn’t safeguard the landing gear or save the shocks. And drivers of this era don’t know these things as you saw on the video the owner of her own company doesn’t know very much about a truck just the comfort features. Just another reason why steering wheel holders are the new terms used for today’s generation of truck drivers. I am not going to say I know everything but I know plenty. And some of these new features is because drivers today can’t handle driving with a phone in their hands. 6 to 8 weeks with a trainer is just not enough time to teach anybody everything. And that’s why uphill assist, downhill assist, lane departure assist, and other computer systems have been invented

I wonder when the US truck industry will introduce the full digital dashboards. You know - the ones we have available here in Europe for a few years now too. Now that they are finaly introducing features like blind spot monitoring, line assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic headlights and wipers, roadsign reading etc. I'm personally looking forward to seeing these features on US trucks and I think it's just a matter of time now. Maybe end of this year or 2022. And no offence intended towards US truck industry. Just a friendly thought. :-)

@@lcplfingers9997 I wouldn't say that they're miles behind. Remember that we are talking about two very different markets and it is difficult to compare these two with each other. I would say that in our European conditions, we have pushed for these innovations earlier in order to achieve better overall safety not only for the truck drivers themselves, but also for the overall safety on our roads. However, I believe that the US truck market will certainly find a way to use these systems as well. And don't forget one more thing - we have our rules and requirements in the EU and the US have their own. And to your question - I live in Central Europe in the Czech Republic. And you?

Flatnose or Cab overs got some serious benefits. Shorter between front and rear axles, No overhang in the front of the axle so makes it much more easy to get into or out of tight places. And why do we still need the long nose? It's like a pinocchio tractor truck. Awesome channel :) I was just as excited about "automatic high beam" and "speed limit camera/display" when I got them in my new Toyota Land Cruiser - unfortunately it's a case of "sounds good, doesn't work" (at least the Toyota version) It takes waaayyy to long for the system to turn the beams on/off, especially around bends, in woods etc. -> so I am blinding the poor guy driving towards me, and once he passes, I can't see sh*t, waiting for my high beams to turn back on. Also, any reflective surface (like road signs) may create a false positive and turn your high beams off, again leaving you in the "dark" --> all together a VERY dangerous system; blinding others and reducing your ability to see The speed limit thing is just "unreliable" as it might "miss" a sign - at least in Europe (dunno about US) where the town limit automatically changes the speed limit from in-town-speed to country-road-speed. (for e.g. .. many other cases as well) About 30% of the time my HUD (camera) will tell me one speed, my GPS another ( and if the road was recently changed, both could be wrong) - an information system you can't trust is anything from confusing, to useless to dangerous, but never helpful
