**Please note: Not all ADR courses are exactly the same. In my video I was talking about the course I went on. There can be courses with a different number of exams, paper exams instead of computer (mine were all on computer) and varying waits for exam results. Check with your training company before you book your place on an ADR course.**

Hi Hayley. I live near Düsseldorf Germany. I did my ADR licence about 30 years ago. Although I was only a forklift truck driver the firm I worked for insisted that I did the ADR course. The firm was a wholesalers for farm supplies....this included tatooing ink that is apparently highly flamable...it was packed in either 1 ltr bottles or containers of 50 ltrs....I found the course very interesting...we also learnt about the use of fire extinguishers etc etc..

@@gary63693I had 1 1/2 years experience of Rigid C multidrop under my belt, the adr training was paid for by the employer. I wasn't on the lookout for an adr role, just happened that way.

While ADR is a wonderful extra to have, few roles if any requiring ADR certification ever paid more. It seems to be like many livestock poultry movers, no relevant tickets, no can drive, but can do with tickets byt at same rates others have for doing RDC/Hubs for parcel and package carriers such as DPD, DHL, DX and RM?

Bloody hell that was like an information overload! That was very well explained and by the end you made it seem that doing the ADR course would be well within the grasp of most people. It would be a distinct advantage for a drivers employment chances and with it the chance to earn more money, particularly where tankers are concerned. The bit I found most amusing was when you pushed your chair back at 7.09 - 7.10, just to show I was paying attention miss! 👍 Never done the ADR but was working with explosives (Dynamite) in 1981 as part of a quarry blasting team. Did you know that it has a distinctive smell that gives some people headaches? I was fine though. I also worked in areas that used radio active materials for measuring the amount of rock entering the crushers. If you ever see technicians testing a new road surface for density they also operate using radio active material. Enjoyed the video Hayley and well done adding a new string to your guitar, was going to say fiddle but guitar suited you better. All the best as always.

I didn't know about the distinctive dynamite smell, it's not something I've been around before (thankfully) 🤔😂. Yes, they use radioactives for a lot of things, even hospital scans these days. Got to love science 🤓🔥

Hi Hayley, Very interesting, quite an involved subject, quite scary at what is transported, love that when you have a mobile phone delivered in plain packaging 📦, but has a large Lithium battery sign displayed. Is there a difference between van and truck regulation, obviously no tankers. I've learnt a little on chemical storage and handling for my metallurgy work, self taught, and soon forgotten. Great video, thanks for sharing.

I was kind of in two minds when thinking about doing my class 1, (in the days before class-2 then class 1 licence), on whether I would go for the ADR course. kind of thinking of doing it as a home study once got the class 1 licence, as would open more doors if I needed to, It is a good idea that the ADR course counts towards the driver CPC hours. I can see why you done it with wanting a managerial type of job later on down the line, and yes it will all come in handy, as well as open more doors with luck, as the company won't have to put you forward for it if you already got it. Well done on passing it as well.

Thank you. I needed CPC so I thought ADR would be a good option. Plus, I hope to teach that course someday. You should go for it when you get the chance, it's not so difficult. I suppose whether it's interesting depends on how good your instructor makes it 😊

Grade 5 secondary science, Grade 5 maths etc etc lol. I need to practice practice practice. However I'm hoping being around ADR goods and drivers will help me get a basic understanding before the course takes place.

I have to say i think the UK signage is far better than the ADR signage . For one reason as by the UK signage the general public instantly can see it's a hazard and to be honest the best thing to do with any vehicle fire/spill is to get away . Better to be up wind if you can but if not move far away as the smoke carries nasties that you don't want to breath . the UNI code in my job helps a lot as how to deal with the cargo , it's not always a case that putting water on it as the best action . The driver has TREM cards and hopefully the driver is able to get out and present those cards , if not signage is only as good as long as its visible or not burnt out . I have had to deal with in my job one and seven , seven being back when i was dealing with it was " fight to the death " . This was a while ago but the quicker you put it out and stop the further progress of an escalation of what could be a a nightmare . Class one has its problems obviously of mass detonation or huge fire with smaller detonations or just a huge fire . I have to say the rules do work as it is far and few between that a hazardous load is involved on our roads or rail system and Maritime . BLEVE can happen with any pressurized vessel , they normally have a pressure relief valve but if the heat/expansion is greater than the relief valves capacity then it goes one way . One massive explosion !! , again in my job an complete nightmare . If you see a LPG tank is involved in fire and you see a jet of flame coming out the top ( relief valve ) , normally with a roar sound get the hell out of there . How ever even inert gases like Nitrogen that are involved in fire can explode , its all due to basically the expansion of air/liquid due to heating from say a fire that the vessel can no longer hold that pressure . basically becomes a bomb/hand grenade depending on size . Sorry for my long ramble .

Did my ADR more years ago than I would like to say and it doesn’t seemed to have changed . This is suppressing as at the time the lorry codes for different substances was due to be changed then to a single system . The other issue is and forgive me if it has changed but when carrying IBC’s containing 1000lts the segregation gap for say sodium hypochlorite and sulphuric acid was only 1 mt. Not totally convinced that this would be sufficient!!!! Does sound like a fair review of the courses. Now try to drive round without spotting all the errors like more than one primary code on vehicles 🤪

I've gotta PIF (Public Information Film) somewhere on a DVD, which is a reminder about hazardous & undoubtedly dangerous chemicals and what we should do about them. Were you ever shown such original footage when you went through your coursework at all? I for one am of a generation who grew up on the format, and I have since sought some genuine original Public Information Films on YT over recent years, and for the last 16 1/2 years owned as many as 290 of them on a two DVD set, Charley Says... Do you know about this DVD by any chance?

Hi Hayley, I've just started the C+E training from scratch and wondered whether it made more sense to do ADR components now toward driver cpc? Or do you think it would be more logical (and maybe less additional stress), to sit after 12 months or so driving experience? Thanks and love the vlogs btw!
