Noob Trucker in the UK, bringing other new drivers the heads up on what its really like as a new driver. Milti drop and otherwise.I have been driving commercially for one year now and my vlogs are here to show you what driving a HGV the the UK is really like, I don't delete the bad bits its all raw and as it happens.

Please don't quit youtube. I love your videos, enjoy each one so much! I also find the really nice to watch if I want to relax and just chill, most other UK trucking youtubers haven't quite achieved that. Also maybe you should set up a few more gopro's around the exterior of the unit a bit like Luke C so we can have a few more angles to see from :)

Nice vid Jay. 1st on 1st off on ferries. I use to drive an artic to Holland twice a week. Loved every minute of it. Now I work a 4 on 4 off shift driving an artic around south England earning over 30k.

You didn't book off in your country. Select rest mode then Driver entry 1> end country>select country. Then before moving onto the boat select ferry mode. Then do the same in reverse when getting off. But your right in a way for when your interrupting your daily rest. Make your rest up before selecting start country again.

With useing ferrys I'd didint think you could use a reduced daily rest had to be a full 11 hrs off with useing a 1 hr to get on and off ferry as in say you did a 12hr 30 min shift would leave you only 30 mins for getting on and off that way you would have a full 11 hr off with in a 24 hr period

Wellman2010 your getting confused. As long as your booked off within a 13 hour shift which leaves 11 hours for rest in a 24 hour period. Your 11 hours rest can be interrupted up to 1 hour using 2 ferry movements. 1 movement to get on and 1 movement to get off. The time you have taken to get on and off must be compensated so if you use the full hour then your total rest will be 12 hours. You must also book off in the country you end your shift and book on in the country you start your shift. This is before and after a ferry movement. You can have a reduced rest on the boat as long as you don't interrupt your daily rest. Example if you drive onto the boat in 14 hours 30 mins and as long as the boat journey is more than 9 hours then there's no need to use the ferry movement.

Wellman2010 also there are many ferry crossings that are less than 9 hours like cairnryan to Belfast, Dover calais, Harwich to the hoek (Rotterdam) Dover Dunkirk. But legally a ferry movement for a driver needs a cabin and a bunk so most of the short crossing you can't use ferry mode.

Ok my bad learning every day thank you !.... So basicly what I understand is that you can do 13 hr day with 11 hrs rest plus the 1 hr for getting on and off , so say I did a 12 hr 20 min shift witch would leave me 40 mins for getting off then 11 hrs off, Or I could have a split rest say 3 hrs on boat as rest then 9 hours off witch would be a 15 hr day and ain't used a reduced correct me if I'm wrong though

Wellman2010 no mate the 1 hour movement is completely separate to the 13 hour spread. As long as your parked up and book off within a 13 hour then you can legally do a ferry movement. You can book off on the 13th hour and still use the 1 hour movement as long as you compensate the movement time on top off the rest. Example you park up in 12 hours and 59 mins of your spread. You rest for 2 hours then move your truck onto the boat on ferry mode which takes you 15 mins. You then put it on rest. You have 6 hours on the boat then pull off on ferry mode which takes 15 mins. You have made 8 hours rest at this point so now you need to make up your 11 hours which is another 3 hours rest plus 30 mins movement. 👍

If using ferry rest it has to be an 11 hour break, not allowed to take a 9 hour with it.

It is a shame to see him go, I would like to add it isn’t easy or simple as it may seem to KZbin, when hgv driving / working. Also having to spend a reasonable amount of rest time editing and uploading and then lose a lot of add revenue. I don’t blame him. Also as jay has had to deal with you get the Trolls and the issues that brings. I wish jay all the best and hope he finds a better streaming service.

I don't think leaving KZbin is the answer, and it seems illogical - surely better to earn some revenue than none and if you split it across a Patreon account and maybe upload some small unedited daily chat vlogs as well you can make up the difference that way. Honestly I think theres so many truck vlogs now that something needs to be different to appeal to wider audience but leaving isn't going to solve anything

It isn’t really that easy to do KZbin when doing a full time hgv driving job especially tramping, and the ones who tramp and daily upload isn’t many due to limitations of ways of uploading. Also you got to have time to transfer and edit and the to upload all manly in rest period. Also as he has happened to him in the past you got to deal with Trolls and it gets hard if they start phoning his company up. And also parts of the industry are clamping down on KZbinrs for safety and to protect companies reputations, for the short of it. It is a shame he is living KZbin but to loose out on the revenue he has I don’t blame him. I hope he finds a better service and wish him all the best.

Companies arrange to drop trailers at Ferry port, and a shunter puts the trailer on the boat, and another takes it off the other side. A local trucker then delivers it to it's destination. He missed the deadline to drop it, so had to put it on himself and drop it at the terminal in Dublin.

Chris Tyler it's a unwritten rule that when a lorry overtakes another lorry that the lorry being overtaken flashes the other lorry back in so cars can use the middle lane again it's also common courtesy I always do it

Lets the overtaking driver know they have cleared the front of the vehicle they are overtaking and can come back into the inside lane. It makes more sense when theres maybe not even 1mph difference in speed so the overtake is happening slowly and with longer vehicles where it can be harder to judge where exactly the back of the vehicle is in relation to the front of the other vehicle.

Darren Bohan not if there is a deal for free movement of trade. Everything should be digital by the time brexit comes. Otherwise we go back to using carnays and t-forms.
