They've always had drummers with smaller kits. I think it's because they're easier to transport\quicker to set up (since they tour a LOT); and allows for more flexibility in songs. If you watch other live shows, they play almost every song different each time. Having a massive kit would hinder a lot of their fluidity IMO Even with a "limited" kit, every one of their drummers has tons of groove and sound

+Insect on Acid There's no difference between a fill with 1 Tom and 1 Snare and 3 Toms and 1 Snare, because the fill is limited by length, not by the amount of drums :) it depends on the drummer and his ergonomics
