I’m taking a year off right now due to the pandemic, but I’ve run 18 wheels down this road 40 or 50 times, mostly on the Calgary to Houston run. Heavy truck traffic on US287 365 days a year. These conditions add a thick layer of stress. Easy does it, brother. Good job.

One night, trucking thru Oklahoma, they had tornado’s all around us, it was night, heavy rain. A cold front was coming in from the west. I battled thru the rain until I got to just north of Dallas and shut down. The cold front hit and the next morning, I couldn’t open my damn doors, they were frozen shut. I had to hold onto the door handle and kick the door to break the ice that held the door.

I started watching you recently because you drive on a lot of the roads I have driven in the West. I agree with your style of driving. The only trucks I drove were when in the US Air Force. I was in a mobile outfit out of Tinker AFB, OK known as the 3rd Herd. Drove military semi's and all the M Series vehicles all around the USA. I enjoy the same types of roads as you. Wife can't really understand the enjoyment I get out of driving the 2 lanes roads across the country. I agree the trees out east make it seem like driving in a canyon. Back in the 70's and 80's used the CB but it seemed to go out of style. I would ride shotgun with you any time! Thanks for the rides! Be safe and keep the greasy side down!

Mike! You’re a good truck operator, it’s going to pain me to say this to you. It’s nothing you can do about how another driver drives his or her car or truck or bus. You can follow them or wait until an opportunity to drive around them and move on as you safely handle your vehicle.

mike, when you talk about jake 1, 2, or 3; just exactly what is that? i know it has something to do with slowing the truck down. one of these times maybe you could show us the inside of the business end of what you're working with. thanks guy. appreciate the education. had no idea the trucking industry was so regulated! how do you keep track of it all? everytime i go to Walmart now, i think of you truck drivers. thank you most sincerely.

Ida, Jake brakes are Jacob's engine brakes. Google will give you greater details. Jake brakes reduce engine combustion to slow down the truck. When Mike takes his foot off the throttle, the engine engages and you hear the loud rumble from the exhaust. Hopes this helps, Cheers!

To make it to Oregon or California, to beat November's snows in the Sierra and-or Cascades, they had to position in Western Illinois, Western Missouri, right when they expected that their then current winter was on the wane (2nd to 3rd week of February) , when they wanted just a little warmth for nights; the trail not yet too mucky from excessive thaw; not yet TOO warm, to trigger fast melt and floods; so, that by the time flood season started in earnest (3rd week of May or so), they were in decently ridged country. Then they'd be avoiding the bottomlands, where the flooding would be more dangerous. The trail by this time, would be mostly "consolidated", before it turned to foul dust. Plenty of dust up ahead, in today's Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, but as long as the Indians were not offended, and the Bison did not form vast, impenetrable, and ornery herds, they could build up a respectably rapid rhythm (June-July), to have a good chance of making it to Cal and-or Ore, by the last week of September, if, everything else went smoothly. They would have to make THE DECISION, AND COMMIT to it, ideally, 18 months in advance.

People don’t realize that although flat it’s a high elevation and the Texas Panhandle can get frequent snows there. Affiliated Food drivers around Amarillo can be real doozies so watch out for them lol!
