Put silicone grease on all of your rubber door seals, which will stop them from freezing to the body and keep them soft. Use graphite lube on door locks, but only in small amounts it can make a mess, but will not collect dirt or freeze. Good luck, Mike GM Master Technician.

Thanks..! In this case, huge chunks of ice built up in the door hinge areas, filled up the inner fender too! I think snowmelt was running down from the windshield... took a few days to melt and clear out the hinges 😅

In the event anyone is curious, the bar above the locomotive seen at time stop 4:57 is for clearing icicles hanging inside the tunnels that separate the north Lake Tahoe area (Truckee, CA) from the Sacramento Valley to the west. Additionally, the bars/grid in front of the windshields are to prevent snow, branches or ice from damaging the glass. The Union Pacific railroad has a subset of their locomotive fleet specifically modified to traverse "Donner Pass" between Reno, NV and Roseville CA, with Truckee CA in between ... with these 2 modifications just a few of the several that allow them to surmount the pass and its winter hazards.

A few years back in the region that Foresty comes from we had 15' snow banks and the power company had to dig out the wires in some areas. Well I call them the good ol' days as this year every good snow storm came with above freezing temps in a few days. The tree buds are flushing now, just 1.5 months too early. May be tough this year.

An honor in some ways, to the Donner party folks, those pioneers who were on their way hoping to make a better life in California. For those who survived and those who didn’t. I didn't get one good snow storm to camp in this winter and I'm so bummed. Hunkering down by a warm fire during a blizzard with just my fury friend is when I find the most peace in life. It really helps me think through all the things going on in life and get my priorities back in line. For me, a few days of isolation is needed every few months just to work through all the shit in my head. It's like doing a hard reset. All of the distractions of life are gone which gives me much more clarity to prioritize what's actually important to me. I didn't realize how much a little isolation could help me until the pandemic hit and I decided to do some camping by myself rather than be locked down in my apartment building. I ended up staying 22 days (I did have to move spots after 2 weeks per the rules) in a small dome tent at a primitive camping area in a National forest with just my dog and it was life changing. I was the only one camping there the entire time and it was the most peaceful 3 weeks of my life. Besides a forest service truck driving through once a day I was completely alone. You really learn a lot about yourself that way. Typing this out really has me thinking about planning a little trip before it gets too hot out. I'd rather camp through an ice storm than a heat wave. I must have some nordic dna or something because I'm the guy in shorts and sandals all winter that never gets cold. I finished part of my basement just so I could sleeo down there because it stays about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house all year long. Anyways, it's nice to see at least someone's out there enjoying all that snow. I enjoy your videos tremendously. Thanks for the entertainment.

Just another day in Truckee. The news always blows these things up, but for us, here in town, it's just another day. Wake up early, shovel out, go ski, come home, shovel again. Rinse, repeat.

There is nothing more cozy than staying comfortable and warm in the camper during a snow storm. I agree with you. The winter camping is best. As long as you have al of the things needed. Nice van you have there. Great video.

Visited the Donner pass area years back. Was standing next a tree that was said to have a marker of how much snow they had received all those years ago. I looked 10-15 feet up and couldn’t find it. Until I looked up literally 35 to 40 feet. Way way up. Might have been even higher. Astonishing and astounding. The amount of snow the Sierras get is mind blowing.

It looks like whatever it was that was making Foresty's subscriber count be constipated a few months ago, has been unplugged and the flood gates have finally been opened up - as they are supposed to be! And of course, having 400K plus views on this video helps, too! Congratulations, Foresty, on your well deserved and steady increase in subscribers, and on this highly successful video!! 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉

@snowwhiteseventrolls Well, I am not sure exactly what it was. But I am just glad to see the subscibers going up and up as they should be. Especially when Foresty's videos consistently get well over 100,000 views per video, and now over 400,000 views on this one - it makes logical sense that a certain percentage of the viewers in each video will choose to subscribe, and the number of subscribers should be rising when a video gets a high number of views!! Kudos to Foresty for his consistently great job in producing these exemplary videos!!

Yeah buddy, cool video. Mother Nature is a beautiful thing. It gets deep, thick and hairy and helps reduce the roadways with less smart people dropping off like frozen flies. No worries, there are always more in the future. We been through that pass more than a few times. Camping out in the Sierras is like paradise. You chili must have been quite tasty. Dig your stove. Work on your knife skills, hold the knife firmly, like it is an extension of your arm. You index finger should be right up around the end of the handle. Sharpen that knife so it can shave paper, or geta real Japanese knife and get cooking. Lots of recipes on our channel Safe travels. Chefs

Well, half way trough the video I havent seen any evidence of winds, so this is just a heavy calm snowfall, Nothing we truckdrivers in Sweden, Norway and Finland would consider stop driving for, exept when the snow starting coming up to a feet deep on the roads. In windy conditons its a different story, but then we talking about real windy, like a real storm or blizzard, not this relative calm snowfall with no wind at all to talk about. The secret for both truckdriver and cars? Real winter tires made for cold winter conditon like Hakapelitta, not those fecking Mud and Snow tires you americans use, that is even worse in cold weather than a Goodyear summer tire.
