I am interested. I have 20+ years, accident/ticket/incident free experience with box van, gas tanker, flatbed, dump/concrete truck, but not one company will even speak to me because I have not driven commercially in the last year, so they would rather hire an inexperienced newbie who will go out and wreck up their truck, then quit in 3 months instead. They want me to pay ~$9-12,000 to go to school AGAIN, and start all over as a brand new driver. "Driver shortage" my behind. They reject qualified drivers to hire unqualified "slaves" instead.

Ain't no way a dude or women in this industry still holding on to money from 2 years ago in this industry stop that... if that was possible companies that has 50 to a hundred truck wouldn't be going out of business.. its just these big corporations just greedy and their profits are way up... And broker's are one of the major parts of the problem

@@monbrown-op9eswill never happen in my career as a trucker. There will always be a broker. Most trucking companies will use third party brokers. And there are advantages and disadvantages to using them. One advantage is larger broker firms like Hub Group and the like pay quickly. Usually within 48hrs of completion. That’s huge for any trucking company. Yes the rates may be lower but maintaining a consistent revenue stream quarterly will greatly improve your company’s overall financial health. Down side is cheaper rates and often times your sales rep will have to wine and dine them often to maintain good relationships. Direct booking of freight from suppliers can be costly and time consuming for the supplier. Brokers have already established themselves in the industry and will likely ensure better flow of your goods to destinations faster then doing it on their own.

@bilalraza319
@bilalraza319 Жыл бұрын
@@pokerman9108 right, but market is also affected by variables. In this case, the biggest variable is the capacity. Remember how quickly people started new trucking companies when rates went up. Everyone was doubling down on equipment and what not - now when the rates are apeshit, not everyone is leaving that quickly. Get my point? Everyone is trying to make money and fighting for every dollar on each load. Brokers love this. Unless there is a great change in capacity or load volumes (which are also low compared to 2021) we will keep seeing crappy rates.
@pokerman9108

@@bilalraza319 yes, this cycle happens over and over. about every 6 years or so. This is why I buy my equipment outright, Cash in cash out business. I run hard and I save when times are good and I buy my equipment when times are bad. I'm currently buying the best deals I can to add 5 trucks. they will sit until things change, then I will do it all over again. I will be ready for the next wave... Also the the riches are in niches. This is probably the best advice one can get in trucking.. Find a niche and you will make money. Even during a down turn.

The trucking industry is solid and still growing. I started driving back in 2014 and i have stayed busy over the years and i am not concerned at all. Theindustry will slow down and pick up but its strong and i have no plans to start over in a new industry. I know folks are worried about automated trucks,,,,dont worry self driving vehicle's will join us in low numbers but will not take over the industry. Why are trucking companies goihg out of business? Ask ford and GM,,,unions are great at squeezing wages and benefits but unions are capable of putting big companies out of business. Yellow freight had money issues from years ago and if the government looked at the business deleaings of Yellow freight over the years we could identify why Yellow went down....whats it the union or bad business deals over the year? I dont know but the companies i have worked for over the years are solid and the drivers are making money......anyways dont run away from the Trucking industry.....we need you

I was hired by Yellow for the CDL apprenticeship program. They were hiring up until the last minute as though they had no idea of what was coming (I didn't either). About 15 days before I was to start, everything was canceled. Then, I was hired by ABF and they canceled their classes. Lastly, as recent of 8 days ago, my class with a local Ohio company was canceled. I have been relying on trucking and I've been preparing and studying for 6 months. I had no idea of the current situation. I am not sure if I will eventually get in somewhere.

The vendors, and retailers blaming the price hikes on inflation in general, and mostly on the transportation costs of the goods, meanwhile the carrier’s pay is pretty much in the sewer, so where is the $$$? Who is BSing? Sure as hell it’s not the carriers, or the driver pay. At the end of the day, we’re all paying a lot more than we used to for any kind of shopping. The word capacity is always used wrong. Whether its a 1 man company or a 500 truck company when capacity drops that means a driver left the industry completely. Say we have 1 million drivers in USA. If 10 percent capacity decrease happens then 100,000 drivers exited the industry. Thats 100,000 loads that won't be delivered on a daily basis. Capacity shrinkage equates to massive driver wages to attract new drivers in an economy where a security guard makes the same money as the average OTR driver. This will be brutally ugly for shippers and carriers in the future.

Although the pandemic era had prices skyrocketing, we are currently sitting in a similar market to the 2017 market. It's all a part of the wave that happens over and over as the market shifts. This wave we're feeling is nothing new, it does however feel more impactful as a result of the pandemic era prices.
@SumDumFuku2

@@AndersonTruckingService I was thinking more like 08. A ton of big companies went bankrupt as the market tanked. Many drivers exited the industry. The pandemic did close a lot of business in America and many new drivers entered the industry. Now with the fast money gone and demand for workers increasing you will again see drivers exit the industry in mass to find the regular jobs. The fresh driver pool is almost running dry. As regular wage jobs increase pay the trucking industry just can't compete. I've been in the industry for over 30 years. This industry hit it's Prime under Clinton and has nose dived every since getting worse and worse with each administration. Good labor is becoming an obsolete.

My wife and I transport new RVs and that industry has gone way downhill. We keep busy as we run as a team. We only drive 1000 miles per day. The good news for us is our equipment has no debt on it. We own our 2019 Pete 567 and our 2021 Shipshe trailer. We can also transport automobiles as a backhaul. We save our money so we can take winters off. I have been driving professionally for 40 years and am done with the snow driving. I think our industry will start to pick back up later in the new year. When we get a new administration in office , and it should be a conservative one, our economy will take off as it did before the current administration took over.

remove brokers from this chain and everything will fall into place
@AndersonTruckingService

While they do make a margin, brokers exist to help connect shippers and carriers that otherwise would not be connected. This creates efficiencies for all stakeholders. If all brokers were removed today, tens of thousands of supply chains would halt and trucking companies would have difficulties finding loads.

Well no matter how much capacity will move out from the industry, still there will be a lot of supply due to the past numbers of new corporations and drivers, Also, the trucking job is addictive, even if one wants to leave, he is not ready to do another job so it is very rare that the number of drivers will decrease, Also the business of trucking school is increasing day by day because it has nothing to do with the trucking industry because people want to rush in trucking and driving school wants candidates as much as possible so every day 1000 of new drivers are coming in the industry, Also, companies are already got habitual of these low rates, so carriers who are new and willing to go as much low as they can and a large number of carriers like these will never make room for rates to increase and this can be the new reality of trucking, This industry needs unity to fix rates but again the big numbers of supply is the problem, This is my opinion only and I also want that someone come and say no this is not true lol.

If you check out market graphs over the last ten years you will see that we are currently sitting at a similar spot as we were in 2017. Every other year the market shifts back and forth. We go through this cycle over and over and feel the same struggles as we are today. However, the market bounces back and the drivers thrive and make big money while it's hot. Sure i can pull your load!!! After I deliver it i will tell you how much you owe me, We take cash or Card............. It is no different than when you take a Taxi Cab, the driver drops you off then tells you how much you owe, then you PAY HIM.

Essentially that is how that process should work.. So if it is not, then you should speak with your employer or driver manager to better understand what is happening.

You are correct, companies were expanding quickly after the pandemic. This along with the major inflation issues going on, as well as other factors, lead to the problems we are having today.

Prices are definitely affected by inflation, however, brokerages are not the problem. Most of them are losing money the same way everyone else is right now. Without brokerages, the industry would fail. Brokerages provide a connection between trucks and shippers that would otherwise not exist.

There is no quality trucks. They are more unreliable then ever all due to the epa stuff on them. Take the epaulets stuff off and the truck is reliable. And the cost to up keep the new trucks is ridiculous. Old iron is a lot better and cheaper in the long run. Till the manufacturer makes a reliable truck again. Epaulets figure a northern way. We need reliable and cheaper to repair trucks.

Until (or if) prices of goods go down, it's hard to say when we will see a change in parts/price. Ever since the pandemic, prices have skyrocketed and don't seem to be going down much. We are curious to see what 2024 brings us.

As soon as someone will take the incentive to figure out how to break the hold Greed-O-Nomics consumers might just boost the economy enough that families can afford to spend more on those items they are turning away. Once again when humans live in harmony certain authoritarians will put those greedy thoughts to control the world may dissipate and make the world into a peaceful state!

Brokers aren't keeping 35 to 50 % of the profit? We the truckers pay for everything this business sucks im still going with 2 trucks i had 4 trucks running but there not much money to make.
@AndersonTruckingService

We can't speak on behalf of all brokers. Brokers play a vital role in connecting trucks and shippers that otherwise would have no connection. When brokers take advantage of it, that's another story. We are at the bottom of the wave (similar to 2017) and are awaiting the bounce back. The market always does this and always bounces back. As capacity drops off the market will favor drivers once again. Stay strong!

Brokers are scammers. If they didn't exist, companies would still have the demand to move their freight, and find ways to work directly with trucking companies. Brokers ease the connection, sure, but if they didn't exist the freight would still have to go, they are not vital to this industry
@AndersonTruckingService

Do you believe that companies such as Amazon shouldn't exist? I think there are pros and cons to all forms of companies out there. Amazon makes it easier to shop, yet hurts department stores. Brokers make it easier to shop for companies. Without brokers, thousands (or more) companies would not know how to connect with such a large carrier base. Aside from that, they would be required to do more research and find all these carriers, which as a result would increase employee/wage count and raise prices as well. The issue with low driver pay that we are experiencing today isn't a result of brokers, it's capacity. The pandemic brought in countless new carriers, inflation hit, and now there are more trucks than loads. We just created a video explaining the shift between shippers and drivers that will provide some insight on what is happening right now and how it will shift back into the drivers favor.

@TruckingIndustryChannel companies like Amazon make it easier for consumers to shop, and products are much cheaper than chain stores, if anything Amazon exposed the markups on retail goods. Brokers on the other hand, do make ot easier to connect with one another, while doing so they are taking a ridiculously high percentage of the profits, while not dealing with overhead the truck takes . Don't get me wrong, I understand it's a business. But sometimes business practices become predatory. Without scumbag Brokers ( which are not all by the way) I think you underestimate the fact that companies would find a way to network with each other, which Brokers block from happening.

@AndersonTruckingService
@AndersonTruckingService Жыл бұрын
While some companies may be understaffed, there were a boom of drivers entering the market during 2020 and 2021. There is always someone to cover the load and that is what is driving prices down. With prices being so low, drivers and staying put and afraid to switch companies so it may feel like there is a shortage.

You are a manager so you are looking to depress the payment of drivers and when all other expenses are going up why you said driver pay is going down not true with our experience , well we are not working for the nasty companies like yours , and you cannot keep the drivers you allready have if you start paying them less, we have a lot of choices, nice to know your company name so no drivers will try to be driver of your company

Two years ago was one of the best years the market has ever seen. 2022 was really the decline. If you check out market graphs over the last ten years you will see that we are currently sitting at a similar spot as we were in 2017. Every other year the market shifts back and forth, always has and probably always will. Hope this helps! Thanks for the comment 😊

You might be a college educated economist! But what you don’t know is why the trucking industry is failing! It is because drivers are treated so bad! I know because after retiring from the airlines as a pilot. I drove a truck for 18 months. It was the worst decision I have ever made!
@AndersonTruckingService
@AndersonTruckingService 11 ай бұрын
I am sorry that you were treated so poorly. Times are tough right now for drivers, but not all companies treat their drivers poorly. The current market is in favor of the shippers (as it is every few years) because there are more drivers than there are loads. When the market shifts the other way, the drivers will have the upper hand and the shippers will be in a tough spot. It's a wave that goes back and forth. If you look at the numbers, we are sitting similarly to where we were in 2017. The only added factor that is making it worse is inflation, however, inflation is affecting all parties. If you are still driving, you should find yourself a company that values you and stick it out until the market shifts back into the driver's favor. Best of luck!

@@AndersonTruckingService Thank you for the reply, I drove back in 2015 -2016 I went back to flying corporate jets, eating right having a shower and hotel every day. And being respected. Not having to worry about finding a place to park. I fly to an airport and the people are happy to see me we load up and are gone. Unlike arriving at a shipper and waiting 4-5 hours to get loaded. The tides in many industries go through what you described, right now in aviation pilots are in control, unlike they were in the 70’s when I started flying. 😁🛫

New trucks costing over 200K with bad quality, Brokers keep rip off truckers. Big trucking companies with minimum profits keeping in the game. Not experienced drivers for automatic truck only driver's license, clueless and dangerous on the road!!! Greedy unqualified humans ruining trucking industry. Unfortunately like this man here keep talking by some formula. Until corporations running trucking as an investment on Wall Street, trucking industries will not see future.

This is simply not true. If you look at freight rates, it's the same as it was in 2017. The industry goes through a wave that bounces between shippers and drivers. Right now, there are too many drivers and not enough freight. Perhaps this video will give better insight as to why this happens: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIG0lqODbrecqLc
