The 34 reset is the normal 10 hr break plus 24 more hours. So it is only 1 day off. I get more miles if I drive 10-11 a day. 6 days then 1 off and the 8th I have all my hours back. That gives me 70+ in 8 days with a day off...

Personally I have been driving for many years and the 34 hour reset is my goal as soon as get in the truck. Why you my ask ? Is that the hours are there to drive each day not save them to work every day. Why not get out of your truck get a room and relax , so you will fresh and relaxed to start the next cycle?

Logging is a skill. The current laws made it more challenging for me to be creative with how I use my 14, 11 & 70 hour work week. Lucky for me, I enjoyed learning how to log back in the 80's Paper logs gave me the flexibility but computers helped me be more creative. The splitting of drive hours, sleeper berth hours, non driving hours & off duty hours. to stop the 14 hour clock I am still learning to master. If I use 70 hours up in 8 days. I deserve a 34 reset. Because for me, 70 hours is more like 100. I do what it takes to get the job done in a safe and timely manner. Dilly dallies, I understand them working the ELD's to only work their 8.75 hours or less, everyday and find that parking space at the truck stop. I avoid snowstorms, rush hour traffic and the long lines at the pumps. Trip planning is skill and I need to be willing to change the plan according to the weather. That means I drive through the night. Its not the number of hours I use up in the 8 days. Its how I use them.

I may be completely wrong, but I can run 84 hrs per week WITH a 34hr break. I can not do it your way. 70 ÷ 8 = 8.75 hrs per day continuous with no 34 hr break. I can run days 1-5 at 14hrs/day and have 70 hrs total. Take a 34 Fri night thru Sun morning and hit another 14 on Sun. Run Mon thru Thurs 14 again and 34 break on Fri. Start truck again on Sat for and 5 day 70.

You're describing something similar to an EXTREME 11-block hrs driver meaning they'll try to drive 10+ hrs daily and keep rolling right after their 10-hr break. Such a driver can hit 88 hrs in 8 days. For the less extreme 11-block hrs driver, they'll hit 77 hrs in 8 days. You and I are in the same camp.

Appreciate the video, but definitely a recruiter pov. If you have 10 left, you actually have 8 1/2 in order to find parking for the night. Also you will make close to 300 more hours per year if you do a reset after 70. Recap is not as beneficial as resetting. Although companies will try to get you to keep running.

As a company driver, again, I don't care for recaps, either, because they DO limit my earning potential. Recaps are perfect for weekly and bi-weekly drivers. However, for those of us who stay out longer, we can go much further than weekly/biweekly drivers since carriers don't have to fret about getting us home every week/2 weeks. They should use such drivers and shoot for at least 10 driving hrs daily and plan for a 34-hr reset at the end of driving on day 6. This driver still gets rest, but has MORE hrs available over weekly and biweekly drivers.

Essentially what you are saying is you never get time off or home time which imo is trash. This is the way truck companies want you to run so you never stop moving each day thus cutting your hours each year by 300 hours and also shorting you those miles you would have gotten in that amount of time. Now if you own your own truck and want to run all the time and never stop sure great method as for the majority of us who want days off and home time to get off the road and out of the truck for a day and a half or two days this information is exactly as I said garbage plus doing the 34 hour reset actually gives you an additional 300 hours which equals more miles driven each year since you aren't constantly ending your day early each day.

Last company I worked for ran recaps. Problem is, they didn’t exactly dispatch that way lol. Safety explained 2 things that made it simple. Don’t work more ( on duty & driving) than 8-9 hours per day. That way you’ll always have hours available. Also wait until hour 6 to take a 30 minute break. ( this was before they changed it to 30 minutes on duty to meet the break requirement ) The hardest thing for me is trying to figure out how much time I get back after midnight. When my 70 is running low. Many times I got up to discover only a few hours available for the day…. Bummer !!

Reset vs Recaps is really a lifestyle choice. You’re technically working the same amount of hours each week no matter which one you choose. Personally, I prefer working longer days and doing all of my sitting at once (during the 34). After working 11 to 14 hour days (and only stopping 10 hours at night) for 5-6 days, I’m ready for a break! During that break, I will use personal conveyance to go shopping and do stuff! Plus, my company pays me $100 for doing a reset on the road and a night in hotel. So, I actually make more money doing resets!

I'm with you on resets, however, all things being equal, those using resets after humping 6 days on the road, can hit 77 to 88 hrs (for those running right after 10-hr breaks) in an 8-day cycle. 9-block hrs recappers, stretching their hrs to use their last 7 hrs on day 8, can only max out at 70 hrs.

You explained well but you can do it that way in a perfect world . But be out there and drive with your calculation ? Good luck . . You have to put the road condition construction and getting stuck in traffic . You can never reach your destination. Responsible and professional drivers must have more flexible way to drive and be productive . Even tho the government put this restriction for safety it’s ironic that it could be more stressful for many drivers to meet the demand from shippers and receivers and the brokers and dispatch. Those 34 hours could reduce fatigue however they can be stressful with a load in my truck and they are not in destination place due to luck of hours .

12th day without a 34 reset... my clock does stay under 20hours but I been getting 8 hours back each night but in 5 more days I'll only get 4 hours back.... so in 18 days I'll probably take a reset. How am I doing this? Well I go off duty while they unload me. But I can't be in the truck, so I go get lunch or go shopping for a hour 2 times a day.... so I only go on duty for pre trip and fueling. I was going onduty unloading but I only could work 5 days... so if im eating lunch across the street I don't have to be on duty. So I'm on day 12 with 15hours on 70 and getting 8 hours back for about 4 more days then getting 4-5 hours back

The clock is confusing and I might need your office number. If you do, leave a comment on one my videos so it can be private. You can get more miles in a week if you run all your 11, say Monday to Saturday. With the method you speak of you only get 8.75 hrs of on duty every day. In practice that’s only like 8 hrs of driving. For some schedules, never getting a 34 hr break works, but if we’re talking about who can clock more miles, then the answer is clear. Drive all your hrs in 6 days and take a 34, to then start fresh again on the same day of the week you started.
@user-os6dw8hc7n

Very true you can get more miles running 11 , but are those paid miles ? I am willing to bet most not all company drives don't have loads stacked perfect to drive 11 hrs a day. Especially solo drivers. When ever I run on recap always end up with more paid miles as s company driver average 12-13k miles in 4weeks solo. But the load gods have to be nice that month
@thereviewer4173
@thereviewer4173 2 ай бұрын
@@user-os6dw8hc7n You are right in that for big OTR companies, they will probably run you on recap to a certain extent because they do not have the loads or lanes to run everyone hard. Companies make more money by running their drivers on recap. While drivers make more money by running hard provided the company has a good lane. There are also differences in pay from company to company. Some pay all miles, loaded or empty.

Earning potential is INCREASED if running 11-block hours daily. Truck utilization is INCREASED. A simple spreadsheet comparing a 9-block hrs recap driver to an 11-block hrs reset driver clearly show the 11-block hrs driver puts more miles and hours on the truck over ALL periods. A block hour is drive hours plus an average of 1 daily hour for pre/post, time at shipper/receiver, scaling, fueling, etc. So, an 11-block hrs driver plans to avg 10 daily drive hours. Yes! She's right! At the end of day 6, the reset driver only has 4 hrs left on their 70 and starts a 34-hr reset. The recapper at 9-block hrs still has 16 hrs left on their 70. HOWEVER, all things equal with each driver averaging 50 mph, the 11-block hr driver has the potential to hit 3000 miles in 6 days vs 2400 for the 9-block hr driver. At the end of day 8, the recap driver uses their last 7 hrs and has the potential for 3100 miles over his 70, with 9 hrs coming back the next day. But, the reset driver has a full clock on day 8 and at days end can hit 3500 miles with 77 block hrs used. The gap only widens for the 34-hr reset driver as more block hrs are available over an 8-day cycle. An EXTREME 11-block hr driver will seek to keep turning as soon as their 10-hr break is complete. By the end of day 8, where a 9-block hr recapper maxes their 70 at an approx. 3100 mile potential, this road demon closes out day 8 at 88 block hrs used and a potential for 4000 miles. The 88 block hrs over 8 days is perfectly legal due to the 34-hr reset. Stretching hours to ensure you can drive everyday is what limits earning potential, not increasing daily block hrs to get more miles over a shorter time frame using resets. All that said, owner operators are best suited for an 11-block hr schedule, because they can find loads that compliment their schedule...if they're dedicated to run that 6-day hard, then take that 34-hr to rest. A company driver is at the mercy of their company which falsely believes 34-hr resets reduce earning potential. Recaps limit my earning potential, but I can understand why a company prefers to try to schedule drivers right thru day 8 into day 9 recaps--they have a truck available daily. So, company drivers, don't get upset hoping to get more miles each week. The company has to place a premium on daily capacity, not daily miles. They can usually repower a load, if needed, but they need to secure the load first. HOWEVER, I'd still make the argument that running 11-block hrs whenever possible is more efficient, because I get rest from the 34 after running 10+ hrs daily, allowing me to stay out longer. A 2-week out, 2-days off recapper will use 106 hrs yielding approx. 4700 miles, and needs to get home, versus, over the same 2-week stretch, my two 34-hr resets using 132 hrs yielding an approx. 6000 miles. It WOULD be silly and unproductive to have a 2-weeks out/2-days off driver running 11-block hrs! A 9-block hrs schedule is perfect for such drivers and carriers...

I’m probably just an idiot and can’t comprehend. But please help… I don’t understand how if I have already gone home or taken a 34 hour how am I supposed to get hours back if I never had any hours in the first place from the day I would get hours back from. If I am forced to take a restart today (let’s say on the 1st of the month) how would I skip a 34 hour restart next week or the week after, since I am out of hours now and I'm forced to restart the same thing is going to happen next week and the week after. 🤦‍♀️ wouldn't that mean I would have to have hours from that past day to keep going? And if so how do you get past hours you never had in the first place? I watched the video and you explain it very well….it's just that in practice when attempting to follow this scheduled it didn't work for me because of that 0 hours from my last 34.

Why would you want to avoid a 34 hour reset that just means you’re working way too many hours for little pay figure out the hours. You work in an average week and figure out what you’re making hourly? If you’re being paid by the mile, you’re getting ripped off.

Do the ELDs now days keep track of the 34hr reset and 70/8 for the driver or does the driver need to do that manually?

Hi, I know how to use the split sleeper berth 2-8, but can it be done the other way around after running out of HOS? Say that I already drove 11 hrs and usually for me to get another 11 hrs of dive time, I need to be off 10 hrs, but if I only get into sleeper berth for 8 hrs, will I get any driving hours back? And after driving, let's say 4 hrs, I get into the sleeper berth for 2 hrs. Does that work? Thank you

I have a feeling this is wrong. I thought the reset time was to force time off so a driver doesn't get burned out by driving 365days/year. What you're saying is if I drive for 8 hours per day, I'd never have to take a day off as long as shippers/receivers are always open when I get to them... Sounds nice, but I don't believe it.

Those short days mean a lot of time sitting around doing nothing, so isn’t this like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic?

What if I start the logs and I am not having to drive enough hours to complete the 70hrs in 8 days? Do I reset even if I didn’t complete the 70hrs but I am already finishing the 8th day? I am just a new to box truck and sometimes I’ll be driving over 150miles. I’ll start this coming Monday. In the Motive software the cycle is 70hrs for 8 days. I am trying to lean the most I can.

I'm a logger not a trucker, but why not just drive 2hrs 15 min break x 3 = 6 hrs 45min x 8 days= 54 hrs drive time leaving 16 hrs non-drive work time?

Hate to spoil your info but, I work as a driver in refineries and we sometimes do 12 hour shifts (in plant-driving on yard move or on duty) for 2 weeks straight. In 6 days thats 6X12=72 hours I've worked. Now I know this is the exception but hear me out. After the 2 weeks has ended, obviously I have to take a 34 to restart my hours. Any other drivers have that kind of experience?

On paper this works,but not on the truck, 24 year driving and I didn’t hear anyone would use this method ever who’s willing to drive months nonstop, Definitely no company drivers and OP will take rest also !!!

I have never personally managed team drivers but from what I know, each driver has their own ELD with their own hours. If one runs out of cycle hours, he cannot drive for 34 hours or until his hours come back.

@@yechezqelyehudi5164 If all hours are exhausted by day 6, you will either get hours back on day 7 (you have to look at how many hours you worked 9 days ago) or you have to take a 34 hour restart to reset your cycle

can you correct me that day 0 it 70 and day 7 it could be a 8 day period ? . isn't it. Всегда думал что надо учитывать день 0 когда у тебя есть 70 часов а день 1 это уже не 70 а в данном случае 70 - 10 =60 и это как бы день 2 чет я потерялся
