TK, The big bonus of the Land Cruiser is the more generous headroom. I find it frustrating that Toyota managed to make the interior of the new 4Runner so cramped. 🤨The fact Toyota has given us more 4X4 choices has to be a good thing. Now let's hope they give us an affordable 4X4 choice with their new FJ Cruiser. 🤞

Yeah, I prefer the round headlamps but it’s a bit too barebones. Would prefer the LC trim with the round headlamps.

Yeah, I like the round ones too, but it seems like they purposely made it look "cheap" with those plastic surrounds so that more people get the higher trim. They could have put a bit more effort into the round headlight trim so that they didn't give off "base model" vibes.

It matters what colour you get with the round headlights. I ordered a 1958 in black. It just looks better than the white truck. As for getting the 1958…. I just like base and simple. People with all the fancy options screw around too much and don’t get moving. I wanna drive and not look at monitors. Also I just like the cloth on these. It looks awesome. 😎

Apparently the headlight modules will swap between the two styles. Will be interesting to see how many people actually do so. I also wonder if the 3-element lights on the LC trim actually have superior light output vs the single element units on the 1958/launch versions.

@TruckKing there could be unknown factors on why selling these vehicles in Canada are not as profitable. Nothing is cut and dry when it comes to pricing. Toyota is in the business of selling trucks to make money. They most likely are not just raising the price in Canada because of some willy nilly reason. I am willing to bet the Canadian government has something to do with added cost for Toyota to sell to Canada.

I agree with dad. Most people buy their vehicles based on their lifestyle and life image. Same reason why a doctor or a lawyer would buy a lexus LX rather than a Hyundai SUV. And it's not because they cannot afford a Hyundai nor cannot drive a Hyundai but rather their lifestyles expect or even call for it. Toyota knows this and that's why they balance marketing and technical details hence making them the biggest car manufacturer in the world.

Which has better droop. Part of the reason the LC sits lower is actually better for wheel droop when off roading, right? Lifting vehicle loses droop for tires to stay on the ground, no? Fairly sure the Land Cruiser is actually more capable than the 4R, not the other way around. LC also has full time 4x4 and 4R is part time which I think is less capable, maybe?

IMO Toyota blew it. Overcomplicated, over-styled, overpriced and went away from what made their 4x4's so popular in the first place. Adding a snail and a hybrid system to gain marginal improvements in MPG and towing while sacrificing simplistic longevity was not a worth trade off.

The 2.4T had nothing to do with MPG, it's all driven by emission mandates. While not as simplistic as a naturally aspired V6, the system is about as basic as you can get for a turbo engine. Toyota used mechanical parts everywhere they could. VVT is mechanical both on the the intake and exhaust side, and the turbo actuator is mechanical unlike the electronically controlled actuators on the TTV6. The engine is also an under square design which is a large part why peak torque comes in at 1700 rpm. I'm willing to bet the distain for the 2.4T will quickly fade once they start getting into consumer hands.

@redtitan29

@@JohnDoe-wy2py I'm in the US. Automakers have less than 2 years to meet major emission regulations that will continue getting stricter each of the following 4 years there after. They are so strict that many gasoline engines will begin using particulate filters similar to what diesel engines are required to use today. Just look at the power these new crop of engines are putting out. If efficiency was the goal, hybrid systems used on Toyota trucks for example would be designed to increase mpg, but instead they're used to increase power output.

70k for cloth seats and a mechanical twin to a 4Runner for 10-15k more is wild. I will say it seems like Toyotas dealer model in Canada appears to be going to more of an order based structure. Any Toyota lot I go by there’s hardly any new inventory. So it’s not like at 70k these will be sitting on lots. Toyota is simply only going to build as many as people want in Canada vs supplying lots in the US for dealers to actively try and sell. Does this make any sense to anyone else??

Landcruiser is for Toyota fans including current 4Runner owners 4Runner is for bronco and wrangler cross shoppers People that have never owned a Toyota Those people won’t go for landcruiser because they don’t appreciate the brand. That is why 4Runner has the laptop on the dash and landcruiser doesn’t. Landcruiser customers know what they want and the base version will be the big seller. Toyota knows this. Customers will trade 4Runners for landcruiser and 4Runner will get customers from other brands. That is the thinking Thank me later😅

@markclaypole1573 6 ай бұрын
I disagree. I think they’re just approaching the market differently, at least that’s my theory. Go to any Toyota lot in Canada and they might have 1-2 new vehicles of each model, if that. They’re all order based now, so Toyota only needs to build what customers order in Canada. If they don’t have many orders, they simply won’t spend the money to build them for Canada. Again just a theory but I have no other answer for why Toyota Dealers in Canada still have so few cars on their lots..

Over priced in Canada for sure. It’s a small market compared to other countries but where we are currently heading for an economic meltdown (carbon tax, other taxes) and where people are struggling to put food on their table and pay their mortgages the timing is really bad for the Land-cruiser. All auto makers will really have to re-adjust prices or not sell anything. Cool vehicle though.

15:28 I like the new Toyota/Lexus body on frame SUV’s. A lot. Might grab a GX550 in a few years once the dealerships are done taking advantage of the first and 2nd year customers. But I’m calling it now. This segment is still big enough now thanks to the “human malware event of unknown origin” that inspired many to van life it and go “overlanding” instead of working. But it’s gonna dry up again as does any enthusiast segment. I give the LC about 5+ years and it will die like the FJ because the segment is too crowded and it’s the in-betweener of the trio. I hope I’m wrong and this comment doesn’t “age well”. But I fear I just might be correct. Cheers for now and see you back here in the comments in 5-6 years, internet!

I don't know why Toyota and all other manufacturers go so high in Canada compared to USA! Canada is a smaller market (population wise) but the difference isn't justified!

Landcuriser for North America. To bad its not a world Landcuriser like a 79 series or 200 series like Australia gets. But would certainly take the 1958 edition with round headlights. Great suspension movement while wheeling. Noticed in video footage.

Why are you not test driving the Land Cruiser and 4Runner on the trails where you took the Nissan Fronteir and other trucks?!

We are often invited to first drive programs (along with all the other automotive media) to experience vehicles on a course or road chosen by the manufacturer. That's what you're seeing here. In this case, on a small off-road course outside San Diego. As soon as we can get one and bring it back to our trails, rest assured that we will.

I'm going to skip both the Land Cruiser and the 4Runner. I was really hoping Toyota wouldn't follow what every other vehicle manufacturer is doing by making it bigger. When you're out on those back roads you want something nimble to choose the best line and make it around obstacles. Vehicles are getting too big. The new Taco is even worse.

The land cruiser is cheaper in Canada than the US, when converting USD To CAD.

When talking about price, you forgot to tell everyone that in Canada we do not get many options for our Toyotas like the USA.

The Tacoma options here are asinine. If you want a short bed you’re stuck with a manual transmission!

THis has less ground clearance than the 4runner so I don't think even the 4runner is worried lol

I know US dollars aren’t 1:1 with Canadian currency. But why such a big mark up in Canada? Toyota isn’t the only manufacturer offering 4WD.

It's actually cheaper in Canada than USA if you look at straight currency conversion. Canadian $ is in the toilet.

This type of vehicles should not have hybrid system. You add more weight and you lose cargo space.
