I really appreciate that you use similar snow worthy tires on all your vehicles for a level playing field. Too many other channels don’t use snow tires and then blame the truck or SUV when it sucks in the snow.

I wouldn't really worry about the rear recovery point. A hitch recovery shackle into your frame mounted tow point is perfectly sufficient.

It has a rear recovery point. There is a little key spot for your recovery attachment next to the RADAR sensor on the middle right. Pop that cover and you should have a recovery tool (threaded bar with a big eyelet) that screws into the point so you can recover from the rear. .

My wife has almost the exact same model 21’ at4. Bought it around 80k cad with preferred pricing. If we wanted to get a new one 24’ model they are going for over 100k for virtually the same vehicle with updated digital dash and maybe minor changes in the interior. Over 20k increase for very minor changes.

Im a Land Cruiser guy, but nice to see GM step up their game. This SUV is a very big improvement from the previous model in comfort and quality wise. One thing I noticed that GM should review, the rear arms and axle are too low for a off road ride, Other than that I think GM starting to take the right path. The Middle East is a big market for cars and specially for SUVs and Trucks. General Motors SUVs and Trucks used to be a fierce competitor with Toyota between 1970s and the beginning of 2000s in the Middle East. Now is the right time to restore glory of the American Cars Industry

My Jeep Grand Cherokee with a small lift and some General Grabber AT2's on it eats snow alive, but its short wheelbase and roughly 13 inches of ground clearance body, and the rear axle seems to not care about snow (its an 08 so it had a solid rear still). While I haven't driven through enough snow to hit the skid plates I have dragged the axle and it seems to do alright. Also despite being about 31% shorter its only about 15% lighter so its equally as planted As for the AT4 line overall, you nailed it. It is made for dirt roads that could become mud roads or snow roads depending on the year. Its not meant to be a rock crawler or baja racer. Actually the Acadia AT4 has a special package for overlanding where they take the third row out and give you all that in extra cargo room and they give you a rail system. So GMC specifically really has an absolute gem on their hands with this lineup and I just wish they would give the sierra at4 a little more love, but the entire pickup line needs a little more love (and its emergency refresh proves that)

But then when I got out and used my traction aids I realized ohhh yaaaa it makes sense there is/was about 3ft of snow built up on a untraveled trail. Fun getting unstuck though, that's what its allllll about. Looks like its warming up around here lately, today it was +10'c so that's a good sign. Summer here we comeeee lol.

@@alexmcgovern2983 yeah, for sure. What I would like to see though, is an agressive snow tire, like an all terrain tire, but for snow. @FunkMasterJunk
@FunkMasterJunk 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexmcgovern2983 None of those tires, are a "Winter Tire". They are all Terrain tires. Did u watch the beginning of the video? The explanation? Winter tires are softer, for Winter conditions. Unlike an All Terrain Tire. My point is, a winter tire for a truck, has the same tread pattern as a car. Like you said blizzack's, xice etc, you buy a set of blizzacks for your car and a set for your truck, the tread pattern on both will be the same. But they will be an "LT" rated tire for your truck. Tire manufactures make a winter tire to perform for car owners who want as little tire noise as possible, not affect fuel economy too badly; But still provide safe, on road performance in winter conditions. I want to see a company make a "winter tire" dedicated to truck owners who want an agressive tread pattern, who dont care about noise and want better performance in deep snow. That DOES NOT EXIST. Having an all terrain tire with a snow flake on it is not a winter tire, its an all terrain tire. A winter tire and an all terrain tire do not perform the same in winter, studs or not. The all terrain has a harder rubber composite and is not as effective for traction in colder weather, " They turn into Hockey Pucks". You wouldnt want a soft all Terrain tire, cause they wont last on gravel roads and rocky terrain in the summer, you would have flats all the time. So, again, I want to see someone make an agressive "Winter Tire" where I dont care about the noise (cause my summer mud tires make a lot of noise), that will get me into my camp in the winter in deep snow and still handle half descent on ice. The reason they haven't engineered a tire like that, I suspect, is there is not a large enough market for that type of tire. The market share is too small.

Worthwhile review. Thanks. A question: If you pop off the cover over the rear tow hitch, and I do think I saw that this AT4 had the tow hitch and cover, is there a hook in there attached to the frame that could be used for pulling weight, possibly right next to the tow hitch itself? And I should probably also ask, is it a quick and easy thing to pop off that tow hitch cover, and then to reattach it? Clearly the two red tow hooks up front can be used that way, but as your review showed, there are times that a rear tow hook would be useful to have. You got creative and found a part of the frame underneath to attach the tow line to, so it's great knowing that is an option, but it would as you mention be nice to have a rear hook as well which would be easier to use than having to climb around underneath. I didn't see you check under that tow hitch cover, and years ago anyway, there always used to be a hook next to the tow hitch on cars we had that chains could be attached to for added safety while hitching up and using the tow hitch to pull a boat or something. A long shot perhaps, but I thought to ask. Thanks again for the useful review.

The small cover you see in the bumper is to release the spare tire. There is no rear tow hook. The cover for the hitch is just two plastic clips and they come off quickly. We could have attached to the safety chain hooks - however there are those that think that isn't safe. We have towed from the hitch ball before and got murdered in the comments. ')

@@TruckKing Thank you for the very clear additional information, and correction of my mistaken assumption regarding that black cover. I thought that larger black cover at the center bottom of the rear bumper was for hiding the tow hitch, not realizing it was for accessing the spare tire. It was the safety chain hook(s) I was ultimately referring to as something that might have worked, but I was not aware that it was unsafe to pull using those, or arguably unsafe. I just assumed that those were solidly attached to the vehicle structure, same as the red tow hooks were in the front, so could be used just the same, but apparently there is some question about that or about how reliable that attachment is. Live and learn. As to why people would criticize you all for towing from the hitch ball, that doesn't make sense to me. I would have used the tow hitch myself, just as you all have done in the past. If it can hold and pull a roughly 8,000 lb boat, I don't see why you shouldn't use it to pull the vehicle out of a ditch or deep snow if it is the rear that is accessible. I guess I don't understand their criticism of you on that point. In any case, since the hitch ball had apparently not been hooked up to the AT4 yet, it wouldn't have been there for you to even consider using anyway. In the end, I'm with you, it would have been nice had GMC put one or two red tow hooks in the rear as well, red or otherwise. Maybe in a future model.

Just curious, when you get stuck like that, I wonder if lowering the ride height for a second would pack the snow down, then your can raise it back up and see if that'll allow it to back out? Maybe another tool in the box if your in a real situation.

GMC has missed the boat with the AT4, failing to provide two basic features available almost anywhere with other manufacturers; adaptive cruise control and diesel option. It would appear that GMC and their dealers are deaf to customer demands.
