@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I drove one temporarily for my mom, who needed it, because her license was suspended. Absolutely terrifying. Worse yet, the path where we needed to go was full of sharp turns, then a steep hill, then a steep downhill with a stop sign at the bottom. I was so scared my foot wouldn't find the brake to stop, though it was the very first thing I guaged when I got in. I made it back to her apartment complex in it but refused to drive it again after that. I'd rather just let someone else drive it for me, even if it means hiring someone. I'm also poor at reversing into parking spots even in a car (I'm partially blind in my right eye and I still don't see that great in my left eye either). So, parking backwards to load or unload things would be hard for me. Also, having assisted in dispatch for XPO Logistics, which handles large deliveries for a multitude of companies, we sometimes got complaints from customers or people who said a driver hit their vehicle or property. Really makes me wonder why America thought it would be a great idea for people to drive such large vehicles, which is a massive upgrade from even an SUV or pickup truck, without any kind of training.

The Bridge (formally known as the Norfolk Southern-Gregson Street Overpass and nicknamed "The Can-Opener") is a railroad bridge in Durham, North Carolina, US, that has attracted media coverage and popular attention because so many vehicles collide with the unusually low overpass, resulting in damage ranging from RV roof air conditioners being scraped off to entire truck roofs being removed.[1] The 79-year-old bridge along South Gregson Street provides only 11 feet 8 inches (3.56 m) of vertical clearance. It cannot be raised because nearby railroad crossings would also have to be raised with it. The street also cannot be lowered because a major sewer line runs only four feet (1.2 m) under Gregson Street.

They are all over the country. The North seems to have the most, as many of them are for elevated trains built decades ago. I had a pickup at a potato chip factory in Chicago . It had three undersized El train bridges, and only one that was 12'6" plus. I had a code book that told me which one. The one I had to use was only tall enough by about 1 1/2 inches. The disgusting thing was the potato chip factory had a flag that stuck up high enough to get your attention, but you could not get to it , except by one route. I picked up a load of Jalapeno chips right when that taste was new. I hauled them to south Texas. The smell was so strong in the trailer , it would burn your eyes. It was coming through the packaging, for Pete's sake. They gave me a bag at the factory, My sister lived in Austin, Texas. I gave them to her , and watched the tears stream down her face , as she and the boyfriend tried to convince me how good they were. ?? Sure.

LOL I didn't notice that, the damn sign blinks for all those cars then somehow knows a truck is coming, so it shuts off..... Could be several reasons, and a possibility MIGHT be the people that have the cameras pointing to the bridge have look outs for the trucks, then cut the power to the sign.... Or Uhaul, or the repair shops... oh hell even police (so they can write tickets)

Why is t you think only CDL should see the sign? Do other drivers not have eyes too?
@pamelam70265 жыл бұрын
Penguin of Death that’s not what I meant. CDL drivers are looking for heights more often than the normal driver. And yes other people should see it because it’s clearly stated on so many signs at the bypass.
