@@paulmichaelfreedman8334Easier said than done. First, the railroad is who owns the bridge and who would pay for it. In order to dig they first have to verify if that's even an option. Water, sewer, power, etc could all be running under that road. On top of rerouting rail traffic which could cost them millions all said and done. When the simple solution is idiots paying attention. At some bridges I've seen them put a row of short chains hanging down from overhead a little way before the bridge. If you hear them brushing against the roof of your vehicle as you drive under it then you have time to stop before you reach the bridge and cause damage, because the chains do hardly any damage compared to actually hitting the bridge (especially when reversing out again). If you look carefully, it's not the bridge itself. There's a VERY sturdy crossbar set up right in front of it, which is what the trucks are hitting: it either stops the truck cold or peels off anything that's high enough to hit the bridge. Either way, the bridge stays completely undamaged (which you definitely want when there are freight trains going over it) and someone just has to replace that crossbar every so often.

I was thinking that last flatbed was going to try and turn the corner and then take something out on the inside of the corner. This video just shows why I avoid getting too close to rental straight trucks.

Ryder seems to be the new star, over taking Penske for number one crashed truck. My favorite is the sardine can style crash! Minute 1:05 DESTROYED truck 😮

You'd think Penske and Ryder would have a "yo don't try to drive under the can opener bridge" module in orientation by now.

My uncle who just turned 100 owned 3 trucking businesses. The only ever mishap he had was leaving a milk tank trailer improperly secured at 2 am whilst having to reverse his truck to pump milk in a tight location. Trailer broke loose and damage a house. He choose 1 day jail to avoid loosing his license.( that was in Switzerland around 50 years ago) Sometimes I wonder why US trucks do not have a huge sign on the dash given the clearance?
@vacexpert20202 жыл бұрын
It's surprising what trucks do and don't, ALL school buses are required to have them in my state as are all commercial chassis emergency vehicles, they have it printed in bold above the windshield, there's a bridge nearby that a few of our trucks can't go through, the rig itself clears but the overhead emergency lights or water cannons won't, some fckwit found that out the hard way, destroyed a $3K state-of-the-art light bar that was designed to be low profile but wasn't low enough to clear that particular bridge
@maxkronader52252 жыл бұрын
Because it is a clear requirement to obtain a commercial driver's license in the US that you know the height of any truck you are driving. You are supposed to verify the height of your vehicle with a tape measure during your pre-trip inspection if you've never driven that truck/load before.

Suprised some of these truck drivers have licenses, cant even read the overheight sign 🤦♂️
@haplopeart Жыл бұрын
Someone elsewhere claimed spanish speaking drivers who can't read the signs. I call BS on that one, numbers are the same in every language. Imperial v. Metric is BS too, even if the sign was in the opposite measurement system, like if I was in Europe or something, most people with above a moron IQ have a general sense of the other system. Those trucks and the campers have their height show right on the side somewhere. < > is an easy comparison. No sympathy.

We have a bridge like this near me. They realized they could shave off a few inches of the bridge because it was over engineered when built. And also shave some of the bitumen. All up about 8 inches of extra clearance was gained.
@MarekLewandowski_EE2 жыл бұрын
They did it here. It went from 11+8 to 12+4 about halfway in the video. Not much changed-it catches bigger trucks now.
@penguinpie5056 Жыл бұрын
it's because of these videos I measured the height of each work vehicle we have and printed out labels near the steering wheel with their heights in imperial and metric.

Wow -the crash beam visibly moves on its mountings at 03:30. That is some momentum. I wonder who cleans up the displaced crud - is there an enterprising scrap metal dealer nearby? I guess that aluminium scrap is valuable...

I have a bridge on front of the building where I work, and trucks get stuck under it all of the time. It’s also only wide enough to fit one vehicle through at a time, so when a truck gets stuck, the road closes down for an hour or two. Would be nice if the put up a pole a hurdled feet before the bridge to help prevent people from getting stuck.

I noticed a lot of the trucks are just BARELY too tall. They look like they'd fit but they're an inch or two too tall and they scrape the bottom of the bridge (at least a few of them had enough sense to go up to the bridge SLOWLY so they could stop if the thing jammed)

What I WOULD like to see is what each of these drivers actually does AFTER the carnage. Perhaps speed up with video showing what drivers do with all the debris (?) .....just a thought🤣😎 .
@karenpff20102 жыл бұрын
I think someone has raised that before. The person who owns the cameras did have one set up at the other side of the bridge to capture the reactions of drivers, but I believe the police etc told him to take it down. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that though :)
