Eliminating the GST/HST for two months will cost businesses as they will have to reprogram their computers twice to accommodate this change and I'm sure they will pass along this expense to the consumer in raising the prices of goods, thus it really won't be a saving for consumers. Any money received from the Government is never tax-free and will have to be claimed on our tax returns. If that puts any of us in the next tax bracket upward, the Government will be getting that money back in income tax. Then there is the huge carbon tax increase planned for this coming spring. Our Government wants to look like they are helping Canadians but they give with one hand and take back with the other.
