Excellent review though, you really give people a good understanding of the game. House rules are necessary which is a shame/problem. I would love it if the designers actually took this feedback and improved the wave 2 content.

Great video! I am thankful that Cmon offered a full refund when they announced the redesign. But the art is very awesome.. so I still am jealous of owners of it just because I love the art. Gteat point that you made about rising above terrible odds to win a game is part of what makes a good game. I agree completely.

I picked it up for $60 KS edition unopened - figured at least have some minis - will wait for update 2.0 or house rules on BGG

I like the game there’s some good mechanics and ideas in here but agree there’s issues like you mentioned. Death and resetting your bag are 2 major problems with this game. Resetting the bag is a big issue with the event cards as I find you can have an instant failure without even drawing runes because you may need three of a type of rune but you already know you only have two of that type in your bag. Three years after this was a rethink, it feels like it still wasn’t quite ready. Reminds me of Cyberpunk 2077 and the seven year wait for that. We all know how that went down. It was a mess but at least they fixed the game. I think they need to work on some rules here and update them before the second wave.

When losing doesn't have consequences the game isn't a game anymore. You could just read a story like "Choose Your Own Adventure". It's faster and cheaper. And the bag building element goes though the window if you need to reset the bag each time you're playing. That's dumb! Thank you for the video. Good review!

Man, the mechanics, especially at death (rinse repeat) really chilled my excitement returning to this game... i even stalled halfway through the first scenario... I'm sure I'll return to it, as the writing and choices are fun to experience, but the equity of consequences is so severely lacking. I should note I'm playing it solo, so maybe it would be a better experience with other players at the table.

So far it's just as bad multiplayer...probably even more boring. I feel bad that my friend backed it...he's absolutely furious about it. Thankfully he only got wave 1 stuff so he didn't waste as much money as he could have lol.

yeah I did multi handed. enter but not sure how I’d feel about playing with even 3 and especially 4

it was on Kickstarter probably about two years ago now. This was only the first wave with the core box but the second wave with the rest of the Contin is probably a good year off at this point. If you really want it, I don’t think there should be too much of a difficulty picking it up on the secondary market either now or later

The game is a mixed bag. I finished all the core set scenarios. The story became better and more satisfying as you progressed. The game is worth it for the story. The narrative has real consequences to your character and the world. The miss is the mechanics of the runes - there is not enough depth to the pulling of the runes - we maxed out well before the end. So for me I really liked it and as l went all in are looking forward to the expansions. However in hindsight would I have gone for another campaign instead? Probably? Maybe?

Obviously we don't know what happened, but knowing that Eric Lang devised the game and then they turned around and canned it and rebuilt it from scratch, I never made it past the $1 phase and I'm okay with that.

Oof...you're being awfully kind. This game is an utter dumpster fire as far as I'm concerned. The writing is mediocre at best, and the narrative itself is frankly boring and does nothing to immerse you in the scenarios. Throw in some dull and repetitive mechanics then top it all off with a "you can never lose" cherry....and you get a game so awful that it borders on being unplayable. They don't need a 2.0 for wave 2, they need an entirely different game.
