We’ll always try to be truthful! If we play a bad game that is not really any hyped, we might just skip reviewing it because we have limited time, but we try to review both things we like and not like :) It is more fun to play fun games, so we try to focus on that, and do research before buying games, haha! :D

It's definitely not a game for everyone, but I have been enjoying it. The bag mechanic is fun and gives you a bit more control than rolling dice as you'll see how the odds change as you press your luck. Permanent changes to the bags are slow, from items, titles, etc., but if you happen to pass near an air city and need more air, you can grab some and the chronicle points seem easy enough to get. Exhausting takes the place of a re-roll mechanic so you have even more control. Really what makes it shine for me is that it is a relatively quick and simple game for a story driven game. You can get through an adventure in about the same time as a single battle of Gloomhaven, but set up and take down seems a lot faster with Trudvang. The pace of the game is also quick as each phase moves at a player's speed and there isn't much waiting for your turn because the decisions are fairly simple. I also enjoy the legacy-lite aspect of games like this where you can change the rules, game state, etc. without permanently changing the board with destroying components or stickers. I'm not too far into the campaign, but your choices and your actions seem to matter, although I would love to see more individual story-lines depending on which characters your have in play. I do agree that death doesn't seem to have a story-effect. I'm fine with coming back with some penalties, but I would love to see it affect the plot more. Though granted, I also haven't had a character die, so there may be more threat that I just haven't seen yet.

Sorry you hated the game experience. We loved it so far. It probably requires a more easygoing mindset, one without the mechanically-challenging expectations you may have started out with. Allow me to expand on this. Marvel United was also derided as being one note and too simple cuz it fell into CMONs typical beer & pretzel games (like most of them tbh) but then added variety down the line and now it's really popular. Is that a good practice? No and that's why I don't care for CMONs core boxes typically. But just like Marvel United, Trudvang Legends is different. It's elegant and easy to learn for a reason: it's presenting players with a simple premise: explore and discover. Nothing more. Nothing less. No brainburning decisions, no challenging combat (that's why dying is not an issue), no cliché board gameplay tropes. Playing this game is like playing Tokaido, or what Mythwind promises, or better yet: playing an RPG. Relax and have a good time, wander around the world of Trudvang, make a few decisions and enjoy the view. I have the RPG books of this world so perhaps I'm enjoying this board game more than if I knew nothing about it but the design (although wrong in staggering content variety and complexity by means of the core box and expansions) is honestly refreshing to me. I'll happily play through the remainder of this relaxing game and look forward to the rest of the content. Heck, this is swiftly becoming my favourite game experience of 2022.

So happy that you are loving it ! 🤩 For me, I don’t need a super hard coop (most of the time I enjoy the easier ones when they are story based), but I need something in the game to grab me. Either the gameplay, the combat or the story. Here, nothing clicked for me, and I found all three of them boring and repetative. Glad you are enjoying it, and I agree with your points, it just didn’t click for us :/

I finally played last night, was worried after watching you review, it was really fun. This game ended up being pretty close to what I was hoping for when I backed it, which is a choose your own adventure game mixed with Quacks of Quedlinburg. Honestly, it reminded me a lot of Destinies, which also has minimal punishment for failure. I have decided that most choices they made because of the impossibility of balancing everything. I wish that more of your upgrades could carry over but balancing prevent it. My only real complaint is that the spawning system for enemies should have been designed more flexible so that the game could include expansion monsters. I will wait for wave 2 to see how the system develops. For now I am excited to play C-2.

When I first watched your review I was like "Damn, another failed project I backed". So when I got it, I quickly put it to a test. My first play was awful. I play solo with hiredhand. I was annoyed by the combat. I felt that it yield less desiring result than dice. I remembered I needed to combat like 10s something time in a row to defeat one group of enemeis and I die like 4-5 times in that combat. After I finish the first play, I think this game is bad. Then I gave it another try, using the same character and start new adventure again. I find it more enjoyable because I know how I should play now. Now I have completed 3 chapters with 4 plays and I think I'm ok with this game. Now I think that by not putting "death" in the game, it means we can keep progress through the story. When I loose a game, I feel like I have to start a new game again and the last game played was a waste of my time (though part of that is because I have many games and things to do so that I found losing or not progressing was a waste for me) So this game always keep progressing and it means more adventure for me. However, I agree that it also means it's not challenging for some. I think the problem is with how limited you can heal yourself. I use the characters who has no healing ability. So it means that no matter how good I play, my characters will be KO anyway. I think it would be better if you can fully heal yourself everytime you go into the village, or slowly healing overtime. Then you can put a serious consequence for losing a combat. Another thing that I'm a bit annoyed is the rune. I find that it take more time to put the rune out of the bag than just throwing dice. There are so many times that I shook the bag and get 3 runes that cannot be used at all. So, I have to slowly took out one rune at a time while shaking the bag. I feel it make the game last longer thatn it should. Other than that i quite enjoy the game. To be honest, I believe that this will be the first long campaign game that I can finish. The set up time is short and everything is managable. I'd like to see how it will turn out when all the expansion come out

Have you looked through the darkness cards? When a player is defeated it says to add the first darkness card to the story board. This can cascade into additional cards should other misfortune befall your party. I’m still optimistic that this game will be fun. We played the first adventure Friday and the three of us really liked it. We intend to play again tonight. It is a light game but we find it entertaining. Maybe, I don't know, I haven't played the game yet.

We got a few of the darkness cards (got to the second level I think) Made the combats a bit harder so far, but then again, that sadly doesn’t matter, just likely makes it last longer. Also, there´s a big introductory story (A Fortuitous Adventure) and backgrounds for the characters. It´s ok not liking the game, but come on, there´s a lot of work on a project like this one. There´s nothing? "The fact that Felerion carries the charm of this bunch and has a huge charisma is no surprise to anyone. He has a balanced initial rune composition, lacking a bit in Fire only, which makes utilizing his lute a precious skill."

I do look into kickstarters i back, but I usually don’t go super deep into the research when there are games we might want to review. A bit story driven game from CMON is something that should be right up our alley :) Just found the introductionary story you mention, which is part of all the updates of the game, and nowhere in the game. I’m happy it’s there, and would have been happy if I read it before playing, to know something about the characters. I do not think it’s a good place for it, as many many people do no follow along and read all the updates. We review the game as it’s delivered, and sadly it looks like this story is only available if you backed, or randomly went looking in the updates. Still, very happy it is there! But yeah, as the game I got, there was nothing about the characters to know sho they where. And we know, there is tons of work on all project, even ones we do not like, and ones we find worse than most other games. Even the worst game out there has had a lot of work to get puplished. We didn’t like the game, so it would be weird to make a review stating we did :) I’m happy you are liking the game! It always makes me happy, as there are people out there for most games :)

It's completely fair to not like a game and some games certainly deserve negative reviews. That said this review was so steeped in negativity that I have to wonder if you really gave it a fair shot or if you just went into it expecting it to be bad. You can't make someone have fun if they are determined not to and I wonder if that is the case here. Some of your criticism sounds fair while some of it sounds pretty overblown. Super happy to hear you liked it :) We have loads of great games that are fun from the get go, so if this turns out to be way better later on, it’s sadly too late for me. I can live with missing out on that, but I’m happy others will have more fun than we did :)

Makes me laugh whenever there’s a negative review of a game, people who cancelled or passed come out of the woodwork. They take these reviews as gospel to justify their decision to cancel lol. Did you know what you were buying? I mean your complaining about the Rune mechanic yet that was in the game from the get go, even before the changes. Obviously it’s not for you. I’m sure someone on eBay would happily buy it. By the way I’m not a fanboy of Cmon, far from it. Just making an observation.

It will always be easier to be happy with your descision when someone else is! I think that is just human, especially with FOMO being such a big thing for many in modern life. Yes and no to your question! I knew I was backing a cooperative storytelling game, and did probably read about the mechanisms a few years back :) I probably didn’t go super deep! With that said, as I also said in the video, I could have seen past some flaws if there was something good here, but sadly there wasn’t anything to grab us here. I’ve seen many people like it a lot more, which is awesome :) I’d much rather people have fun with the games they buy!

The rune mechanism isn’t the main problem. All the problems become the problem. I enjoyed the combat in the first scenario, but it just starts to get boring/get repetative so fast. It needs a good story to make me care. I can see this core rune-drawing mechanism having potential, but as it stands now it’s not something I enjoy.

@@sunnivavarjord I get what your saying but what’s the difference if it’s rolling dice or drawing cards (like JiME) to get an outcome?
@sunnivavarjord2 жыл бұрын
@@warpaint9385 drawing tokens from a bag in itself is not worse than drawing cards or rolling dice. For me it’s what you get to do with the tokens that lack excitement. And when you have longer fights (which can potentially get super long, since you cannot die) the prosess of shuffeling the cards over and over, and drawing and returning these tokens again and again, felt like a lacking experience. I don’t mind a simple combat system if the rest of the game was well put together :)

The fan hype on KS has been almost rabid, I suspect after years of yelling "We Are Trudvang!" it's too late to admit it's manages to be both bland...and a mess 😁
