The VA has so many issues! These veterans come home and so many are left picking up the pieces of their lives with severe mental issues. God bless Brian and his family.

He’s really a hero because he didn’t hurt anyone, didn’t intend to hurt anyone and brought attention to the plight of veterans. We spend 1-2 trillion on the military. How is there so little money for veterans who become mentally unstable after serving? Tell me that.

Seems like his quiet and reserved nature should have never experienced something like the marines. Only certain minds and personalities are equipped for these kinds of experiences. To join the marines in an attempt to become a man, isn’t a realistic approach. As one’s mind has to be wired in ways that supersedes specific benefits.

@applesandlemoncake it really is s freaking shame. My cousin lives out in Asheville NC so when the hurricane happened last month he didn't know if he was ok for a few days since he is unhoused. A stranger saw our flyer online and saw him at a food/help line and verified it was him. He verified it was him and she let him know we cared and let us know he was ok. This is what we do to our veterans/provide them. It's unfortunate

This breaks my heart. My fiancé has PTSD, bipolar and more. There are SOOOOO many times he could have been hurt by police and instead they have prayed with him and calmed him. He’s called the police on himself many times when he’s triggered. He is a black man also. The police in this area have went out of their way to keep him safe. He’s a disabled army special forces veteran. He was also honorably and medically discharged for mental health. This one hits home. This is heartbreaking. They should not have shot him like that. Not at all.

Okay but since we're on this topic, 13% of veterans in America or homeless while hundreds and billions of dollars EACH YEAR goes to one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Half of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. The 99% of Americans are struggling while the top 1% just keep profiting off of that struggle. Our government is holding us down and nothing will ever change until we break this two party system. Anyway I love your content!!!

Facts. We need to over turn citizens united, get all money out of politics....it's legalized bribery. Our elected officials represent their PACS rather than their constituents. End outside influence in American politics. Break the two party system. And stop funding Israel's international crimes. I'm so disgusted with our politicians and unfortunately I see no changes in our future. The wage gap will continue to grow. How much money could they possibly need???? This case is truly sad. My brother and my father are both veterans. My father passed away in 2015 after a long struggle with addiction and i truly believe being in the military drove him to drugs in the first place. My brother is currently struggling with mental health issues, much like Brian, he feels he's being followed and he's super protective over me, my mom and his daughters because he thinks that the people who are "after him" will come after us to get to him. He has been trying to get help for some time but the VA is no help. My brother is struggling financially because he's not getting paid much from the military and the injuries he's suffered keeps him in so much pain he can't really work..... All that to say that the military and the VA have to do a better job caring for our veterans. These people come home broken and they need support. My heart goes out to Brian and his daughter because she didn't get a chance to know the great guy her father once was.

This is the first video i’ve cried on. I’m active duty and this breaks my heart. The veterans that served during Vietnam and between our last war deserve so. much. better. Nothing boils my blood more than seeing a homeless vet. I volunteer often with the VA hospital and home here by my base. they deserve so so so so so soooo much more. Tell a Vietnam vet ‘welcome home’ and thank our servicemen and servicewomen. Thank you Britt for covering this case, rest in peace Brian ❤ you deserved better

I guess it depends on the branch and individual. I’ve never had an issue with medical while active duty or as a veteran. Unfortunately, many of us vets are left “broken” but there are resources. There are barriers in regards to the vets who do receive services though. One has to be service connected and honorably discharged.

I love how Brittney shows incredible respect while covering military cases. Our veterans are trained to fight, but not trained how to cope and stand on their own 2 feet once they get home from war. My brother was deployed 4 times and because of ptsd, he’s still fighting - This time for the strength to not “surrender” to the horror of what he saw etc… We have to do better.

I wasn’t prepared to get so angry towards the end of this story. I feel in my gut the officer knew he could get away with not following the order. He should be looked into, reeks of entitlement. It was obvious Brian didn’t plan on physically hurting anyone, he wasn’t even asking for more than his usual small monthly pay out, which says a lot. 😢 R.I.P

My neighbor across the street had 4 kids. Her oldest was always very respectful, funny, handsome and hard working. He moved out when I was like 10-11 because he was like 18-19. I didn’t see him for 20+ years but throughout the years I always heard good things, he had went to the military and had a family etc. out of the blue, I was visiting my mom and I hear someone calling my name. I look over and it’s a homeless person coming across the street. It was the neighbor I hadn’t seen in 20 years. I was in shock. I couldn’t believe that was him until I looked into his eyes. We talked for like two minutes and I just went in the house and cried. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I heard a few months later he died and that just hurt my heart so bad. Idk what happened in the last 20 years but I have a strong suspicion it was probably something that happened in the military. 😔

As a Veteran myself...SO many of us feel like this. We feel the need to make rash decisions for a change. Especially the ones of us who've deployed 3 plus times. I'm just now mentally able to go back to work. I've been out since 2010. Also, the "veteran crisis line" was created because so many vets were killing themselves on VA property to make statements. That was their solution. A hotline. Yet another fkn number to talk to someone with no fkn answers. Lawd, I can't.

Thank you for telling this story. He deserved so much better. I can't recommend the movie (Breaking) enough. I saw it at sundance a few years ago (I hadn't heard the true story) and was so moved I couldn't wait for it to get a wider release and show it to everybody I know. John Boyega is an incredible actor and does an amazing job- I couldn't even tell it was him at first. If you've ever seen the movie John Q. starring Denzel Washington, those are kind of the vibes.

So what the point of having a commander if you don't have to obey the commander I don't get it! That Commander should feel very disrespected by the whole department because his position meant nothing!!!! Damn what kind of pull does ponts have in the department????

He had also killed another black man in a standoff a few months before this. Brian was actually his 2nd fatal standoff shooting. Someone needs to reevaluate and hold him accountable.

Such a sad situation. I have seen this so many times where veterans give all for this country and get completed abandoned when they need support. Also, I did not even notice you did not do your make up until the end when I was looking for your final look. Lol. Your videos are so engaging :).

What a sad story. That SWAT man should have been fired. I feel an element of racism here also. No vet deserves an ending that Brian got. The VA doesn't provide follow up services to make sure that the MI be enrolled in appropriate outpatient treatment facilities. There they should be monitored with compliance with meds, provided with treatment to access compliance with treatment plan and also housing and employment opportunities. What a shame the honor these vets get is when they die and get a military burial.
