A house built on the site where serial killer John Wayne Gacy’s house was demolished is on the market at $459,000.
The three-bedroom, 2,500-square-foot house on Summerdale Avenue in Norwood Park Township was first listed in August at $489,000; the price has been cut three times since. The brick ranch house where Gacy lived was torn down in the wake of the police investigation that required digging up the crawlspace, driveway, garage and yard, where police found the remains of 29 bodies in late 1978 and early 1979. According to Chicago Tribune articles from 1979, Gacy told police he buried the bodies of 27 of his victims on the Summerdale Avenue property and threw the bodies of another five victims into the Des Plaines River.
Ending song is I Am a Rambling Boy by Jory Nash available at www.Jorynash.com
John Wayne Gacy was an American serial killer and rapist who took the lives of at least 33 young males in Cook County, Illinois, burying most under his house. Other bodies were recovered from the nearby Des Plaines River.
Sometimes known as the “Killer Clown" for his habit of dressing in a clown costume and makeup, Gacy had an abusive childhood and struggled with his homosexuality. After being convicted of sexual assault in 1968, Gacy's murders were discovered.
Gacy was a member of a Chicago-area "Jolly Joker" clown club and frequently performed in clown attire and makeup at children's parties, charity fundraisers and other events as his alter egos "Pogo the Clown" or "Patches the Clown."
The “Killer Clown" sometimes lured his victims with the promise of construction work or some other ruse, and then captured, sexually assaulted, tortured and eventually strangled most of them with his hands or with rope.
In 1968, Gacy was convicted of sexually assaulting two teen boys and given a 10-year prison sentence. He was released on parole in the summer of 1970, but was arrested again the following year after another teen accused Gacy of sexual assault. The charges were dropped when the boy didn't appear during the trial.
By the middle of the 1970s, two more young males accused Gacy of rape, and he would be questioned by police about the disappearances of others. Gacy referred to this period of his life as his “cruising years,” when he committed most of his murders.
On December 11, 1978, 15-year-old Robert Piest went missing. It was reported to police that the boy was last seen by his mother at a drugstore where he worked before he headed out to meet Gacy to discuss a potential construction job.
Ten days later, a police search of Gacy's house in Norwood Park, Illinois, uncovered evidence of his involvement in numerous crimes, including murder. It was later discovered that Gacy had committed his first known killing in 1972, taking the life of 16-year-old Timothy McCoy after luring the youth to his home.
After a lengthy period of police surveillance and investigation - and the discovery of several trenches filled with human remains in the crawl space beneath his house - Gacy eventually confessed to killing about 30 people.
Gacy's trial began on February 6, 1980. With Gacy having confessed to the crimes, the arguments were focused on whether he could be declared insane and thus remitted to a state mental facility.
Gacy had told police that the murders had been committed by an alternate personality, while mental health professionals testified for both sides about Gacy's mental state.
After a short jury deliberation, Gacy was ultimately found guilty of committing 33 murders, and he became known as one of the most ruthless serial killers in U.S. history. He was sentenced to serve 12 death sentences and 21 natural life sentences.
Gacy was imprisoned at the Menard Correctional Center in Illinois for almost a decade and a half, appealing the sentence and offering contradictory statements on the murders in interviews.
Though he had confessed, Gacy later denied being guilty of the charges and had a 900 telephone number set up with a 12-minute recorded statement declaring his innocence.
As both anti-death penalty forces and those in favor of the execution made their opinions known, Gacy died by lethal injection on May 10, 1994, at the Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Illinois.

Imagine just starting out your young life, then being murdered. Then you end up nameless under a stone slab in a cemetery. Heart-breaking. The perpetrator's name is common place whilst the victim's remains unknown. A great choice of victim to visit to end your video Scott.

I went to grammar school with John Mowery, one of Gacy's victims. In the pictures, John is 2nd from left on the bottom row. The saddest thing is that his mother lost a daughter to murder just a few years before John. John is the one who discovered his sister's body. How much can one mother take? My husband also used to live two minutes away from Gacy in Norwood Park Township and had a teenage son looking for side jobs at the time Gacy was lurking around for these victims. He felt lucky that his son wasn't a victim. RIP to all of them.

I grew up in River Grove, IL between 1977 and 1981. I was literally a 7 minute drive from my front door to Gacy's. To this day I'm shocked, angered and disturbed to know how much the police knew...and how little they did to stop him. I recently went to the property where the house once stood as well as the location where Gacy abducted Robert Piest. R.I.P. to all the victims. Rot in hell to Gacy. And thank you, Scott, for being respectful and professional. You're a good man.

Have you read "Chaos" by Tom O'Neill? Blew my mind. Not really, but kind of. I had researched a bit into all Gacy's government ties and "passes" a while ago. Koresh too..... the Manson thing still surprised me some. However, at 46 I am so pissed at how crazy I was treated for so long, believing our politicians and government moved they way we know for sure now..... they were moving. Each story-leads to another and it's absolutely disgusting how much some are allowed and others denied. My hearts shatters into pieces for all those affected, including his innocent family members. It's so sad how far tragedy reaches and ripples. Blessings and 💚 to all of us living a "righteous" life.... which to me simply means.... trying to be a better person today then I was yesterday, don't hurt others, look out for others and keep it moving.

Gacy , Dahmer, Bundy , BTK and Green River were the notorious 5 who did their evil work around the same time. No 911, carried themselves properly in public and hid their evil from those that truly did love them. Gacy was full of himself and liked the attention and loved to talk about himself. Prayers to the souls lost and the lives that weren’t allowed to flourish under these demons. Awesome video and much respect Scott!

Gacy realized he was being followed and in an act of bravado, invited police in to his house. It was during this time or another that he openly smoked pot in front of the police. At the time this was illegal. Gacy was displaying his arrogance or mental state. Also a cop asked to use the bathroom and while in there, the furnace kicked on and air from below flowed out a vent next to the toilet so the cop knew immediately it was the smell of death. I think Gacy, like other killers, blamed the smell on sewer problems.

You truly did your research, especially showing us locations that are not in other videos (like the river and what the drug store looks like now). He was one of the scariest and worst next to Dahmer. I've never seen the physical locations in the present era. I knew the Gacy house was torn down but it looks like a new one was rebuilt? Who would want to even live on the lot and oddly there's a backhoe in the driveway. In the Dahmer case they tore down the Apt building and fenced the area off. Not here I guess.

Thank you Lisa…I think it’s different as well in regard to the filming technique I used and the way I approached the story. I wanted to tell the story first, and then at each location say as little as possible and just let the camera linger. Sometimes words aren’t needed I feel. The first thing I filmed for this video was the bridge and I have footage of me talking away under it etc but whilst filming I found the structure was telling the story just by it’s size and well, the look of it. I lived in a nearby suburb at the time and I remember this as if it occurred yesterday. The pictures now look long ago and the trees have grown and people have moved and neighbors have passed on. This created a very chilling effect on the Chicagoland area that lasts to this day nearly forty-five to fifty years later. It’s all so very sad and wish they had made a memorial on that site. I wouldn’t want to open my shades if I lived in the next door neighbor houses given the proximity. Rest their souls. Your music was beautiful.

Evil. I remember when the trial was going on, i was like 13. People just couldn't believe that this guy did what he did and then buried the bodies under his house. I mean these were kids. It was hard to even believe that such evil existed. Great job on the video and locations Scott.

I was in high school when this happened. I was friends w/a girl who's father was a Des Plaines detective so he had binders full of the crime scene photos from this tragedy. Believe it or not her house was also the party house, so we'd go over there to party & flip through the crime scene photos before any of them had been released to the public.

Wow. So heartbreaking! I barely watched another of my favorite youtubers just the other day, and she talked about John Wayne Gacy too; but she does the crime part...most of the gory details and parts of the trial. Lo and behold, you upload the other half of the story...which is the victim's memorials. I feel like between the two of you, the story came full circle for me. The way you are so respectful of their memories and are very careful how you present details pertaining to the case is very commendable. I highly enjoy watching you, Scott. I only follow about 8 youtubers...and you are definitely one of them!

I leave in the Norwood neighborhood and let me just say it would off been “great to meet you”.. I literally live 3 minutes from were you were, on elston and Miami st.. I also did some research on John gacy.. I even drove to his house on Norwood.. but what I didn’t know was that on elston Miami st, he had more body’s.. elston street is were I drive the most through and now I won’t see the street the same again.. it will always remind me of you and this video.. in this video you had more off gacy then any other KZbinr.. loves it!! Scott, I notice you observe a custom traditional to Jews, of placing a stone on a headstone. I was touched by your doing so at this poor fellow's resting place. You are so respectful of both the living and the deceased. I appreciate that. You never act ghoulish, but simply express natural curiosity. Thank you for what you do.
