You can tell the map was originally intended to be bigger than it ended up being in the final game, especially since they went to the effort of adding the street names to these out of bounds roads. So much unused and normally unseen land. Reminds me of all the unused out of bounds land in Fallout: New Vegas.

The Promos said it was supposed to be 400 Square Miles IIRC, but it was reduced to 230 IIRC.

Really late but NV only had so much out of bounds because they used real life satellite terrain data scaled down, very little of the maps borders was “cut” after the choice to reduce scope in pre-production.

It would have been really cool if the map included Long Beach and the South Bay. Imagine the fight between Nick and General Kim at the port.

awesome! when i was a kid i used to try for hours to get past the reset barrier to the "secret city" lmao. im sure that there are some secrets that havent been found yet. so much soul in one game. plz do a second part about the south of the map!!

I really hate those side streets in this game because there is always tons of traffic and they are going way too slow. always in the way. Especially when I'm being chased by the cops or the SWAT. I love that cheat you can punch in and it makes your car behave like a pinball bumper and it launches cars out of your way.

You can also use the southernmost part of Western Avenue to do this.
