Also, midnight club LA lived such a long life because it released just when arcade games started becoming trash. Why do you think Burnout paradise and NFS 2010 still have active player communities and remasters? People were hanging on to the last strands of quality in a dying genre

There are still some people playing Daytona USA for the PS3 online, but only on special gathering events. Trust me it was way more fun than most of Arcade racers now-a-days when it just a copy and paste cycle of a "Large open world map with a shit ton things to do but there is no reason to do it other than it's optional" I miss those games where it was more grounded and had an main objective to do. Forza Motorsport 4 and Horizon 1 are a perfect example of how to make a racing game without feeling too overwhelming at first and boring to play on hours on end. 6:28 On a side note with the cops, I believe you can gently hold the accelerate trigger to keep right within the speed limit so they don’t get aggravated in free mode. However, if they receive a 911 call about you, they will automatically recognize you as a street racer if they come across you- so don’t bother hiding in plain sight in that case. It’s also worth noting that if the police just want you to pull over and pay your fines, you could do so and a cutscene will play out showing the cop giving you your ticket… or you pulling away and leaving them in the dust if you accelerate during the cutscene. That was a detail that really stuck out to me, and made police chases more entertaining at the beginning (though I agree on how annoying they are in LA). I’m glad MC:LA is backwards compatible on the Xbox series- it’s still a blast to this day, thanks to the fact it was made while Rockstar was still the paragon of the gaming industry. It’s just a shame we’ll never get a new title again- especially with Grand Theft Auto taking over these days…
@streetpilot40982 жыл бұрын
I LOVED that you could pull off on cops in the dashcam cutscenes. That really stuck out to me when I saw the cops trailer. The one thing I wish the cops did was have more units respond and even a helicopter, maybe a roadblock here and there. Or even spots where they're sitting and clocking traffic like in NFS Heat. But they were a little too aggressive for higher numbers. But man, I think they knocked it out of the park with this one when it came to the cops. Busting street races, trying to pull you over versus engaging a pursuit depending on your speed, responding to trespassing calls, catching you doing races on the highway, all of it. I got some long fond memories with this game.

I turned 18 in 2008. After teenage years without a console, I was able to buy my first one by myself, which was an Xbox 360 60go edition, which offered 720p resolution, it was crazy at the time. I ordered Midnight Club LA without any hesitation, having played the 2nd opus at my friends house when I was younger, and being totally crazy about westcoast culture and Hip-hop. I remember my homie who introduced me to the MC series telling me about the graphics: "it's so well done it doesn't even look like a game". The customization possibilities, crazy LA details, epic soundtrack, the spirit of rivalry never seen in a racing game, the terribly hard and frustrating collisions, the GPS interface of the map, the headlight system to provoke a rival on the road, the phone, everything was extraordinary. The beauty of Santa Monica beach, the sunsets and sunrises, the road shining with orange reflections, the small roads of the hills, the Jordan sponsoring, the LA River, the possibility to bet your car and find the machine you invested your fortune in on the roof of a building and racing in the hands of a steeet race gang member (before disabling the automatic save forever 🤣), the varied game modes, the possibility to try all the vehicles, the damage management... Really I have only good memories of this game, way too huge and complete for me to have finished it. I remember how fascinated I was by the South Central DLC which expanded the city and offered lowriders... Much later I scratched my original cd by moving my console on (bad idea). I immediately ordered the complete edition which was very cheap second hand. I sometimes play it again on Xbox One, continuing my career, and it will be the same on Series X. 14 years later, the difficulty of zigzagging between vehicles, cops and buildings still gives me this joy that makes me celebrate my 1st places as if I had scored a 3 point at the buzzer. You're right, this game is unstoppable. Thank you for bringing back these memories so well.

This game for me was so much more enjoyable then 3 because things aren’t always moving at Mach 2 with shit just flying at you while you bounce off walls, traffic, trains and burst off building into the air like a missile. Cars feel distinguished and weighty, drifting was optional rather then forced, and although it’s arcady, it isn’t ridiculous. MCLA lacks a lot in the car department though, and even in 08 there are some glaring omissions that were popular at that time. Alot of the best cars are the crap convertible versions.

One thing awesome was how you could bring single player vehicles to multiplayer. When the MC:LA first released I seriously underestimated the multiplayer element to the game, I gave it a go initially, thought it was 'cool' then never really bothered with it again. It wasn't until a little later in the year, my friends got into MC:LA, we were playing this game every night, showing off our cars our progress in the game and just racing and hanging out. Such a great title, miss the Midnight Club series. The way the multiplayer worked was leagues above any other 'arcade', or just street racer in general. The ability to set up events on the fly, in public games, race randoms, join random races with other players, seemlessly switch out of lobbies to a new one and join in the races and events going on there. Seriously cool.

My cousins played it when it came out but I never ended up buying it till last year and it ended up being a blast. I got a few different cars but ended up going right back to my 240sx I miss how old games handled progression because now it feels like most car games only after a few hours you have a multi million dollar collection of some of the fastest hypercars that you didn’t even have to really work for
@Under10Hours2 жыл бұрын
I agree. I feel like in these games, getting a new car feels earned and you really have to succeed to afford the best cars in the game. I really didn't like the trend Most Wanted 2012 created of "drive around, find car. ditch old car. repeat." You can just stumble across any supercar in that game whenever, and to me it feels poorly paced because of that.

I looove Midnight Club with a passion. It’s my favorite game series from Rockstar. It seems like a blessing MCLA is backwards compatible in Xbox One/ Series S/X. This game has pink slips, and wagers, something which NFS has yet to bring. I admire Midnight Club and I will always remember that series for as long as I live. LONG LIVE MIDNIGHT CLUB 2000-2009 Also, we can drive cop cars in MCLA’s career mode, it’s so fun! 😂

here's my idea for my ultimate street racing game: midnight club LA's character friendships/banter, a character creator like in juiced 2 but way more in depth, sponsorship clothing brands like in NFS heat but more like nike, reebok, puma, DC shoes, vans, nixon, DVS, matix, circa, zoo york, ecko, etc, open ended races like midnight club as well as closed track races like need for speed, NFS heat cop's personality and aggression, the car list of any forza game, more options for body kit customization like in juiced 2, juiced 2's gambling, races actually have a buy in so you're not just rewarded money, you might actually lose some of your own

About Concepts of Camaro and Challenger, NFS did it earlier, in 2006 with NFS Carbon. Challenger Concept was used by Angie Boss(Leader of 21st Street Crew) and Camaro was Collector Edition Bonus Car, but devs allowed us to test it in one race of challenge series.

Man I miss this game, I had a lot of fun with it. My absolute favorite thing about it was the way you could customize the wheels, you can make them exactly how you want. That's not something you can do in most games it seems. In midnight club LA, I can give my car extremely tiny wheels and tires, and it was hilarious. I miss it.

Currently playing MCLA on my series s and it lowkey makes me sad. It’s an amazing challenging & beautiful game! The sad part is racing games haven’t really progressed or innovated since then. Another Midnight club from rockstar would be fire but they won’t let go of GtaOnline

I got this for ps3 around 2016, unfortunately the online mode had been shut down by then. Kind of sucky. But yes, excellent game. Just racing on a highway is fun and is its own gamemode pretty much. Besides the cops, the biggest flaw is the rubberbanding which can get pretty nutty on hard-difficulty races. I don't see why anyone wouldn't choose the Roar perk, unless you're on a bike and need a quick crashbreaker-like moment to avoid a faceplant, for which that ramming perk works (whatever its called). I haven't completed it tho, think I'll pick it up for 360 now that I have one
