One of the most relatable pessimistic characters ever, looks at the 99% dark sky, believing it was once all dark, and correctly attributes the 1% of light to be winning. Probably one of the most hopeful character developments ever, and it happens in the last line.

Cool little detail: when Rust is talking to the old woman about who painted her house, he asks "did he pay his taxes?". Back in episode one, we learn that the guys in the force called Rust "The Tax Man" because he carried a big ledger (in Marty's words, "y'know, like the Tax Man"). In he end, it was taxes that led Rust and Marty to the killer.

Huge Easter Egg: go back to the first scene where Rust encounters the lawnmower man. There is a sign in the foreground as Rust walks toward him that says something about parking. If you pause at the right moment several of the letters are blocked out by fence posts and as the lawnmower man enters the scene the sign reads (due to portions being blocked from our view) "NOTICE KING". They told us the first time we saw him. I pat myself on the back for finding that. There are others throughout the show as well.

"Why green ears?" From the first episode of the season where Rust is explaining how you can go back on past evidence; the smallest detail can break a case. Also how he can spend 5 minutes with someone and know if they're guilty. He wasn't able to get enough time with Childress in 95 to verify him.

There's another Easter Egg for you. In episode 5, when that murderer who was about to make a deal with Rust dies in prison by suicide, one of the two officers' name is Childress. The same name as the killer.

Enjoyed following the series along with both of you, but yeah it's an anthology series like Fargo, different characters and story each season. Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell are in season two, their performances are very good.

My favourite H.P Lovecraft-ian show, light vs dark.

part of what was a letdown with season 2 & 3, was we expected them to be a continuation, which they really should have been. so they probably aren't as bad as they are made out to be, if a person watched them, as if they are just shows of their own. they shouldn't even be compared to season 1. there's actually some great colin farrell scenes that i always go watch on youtube.

Season 2 and 3 aren't bad. It's just that this one is so exceptionally good, it's almost impossible to live up to. Season 2 is a little different with a complex story (more politics, which doesn't appeal to everyone), the weakest of the three but still good. Season 3 is more similar to this one (too similar according to some), and generally regarded as the 2nd best.

You shouldn't listen to people telling you to skip s2, it's amazing. Those people have the attention span of a goldfish. It might be confusing at first, which puts a lot of people off it and the characters are not immediately as likeable but I'm sure you'll love it by the end. The second half of s2 is on par with s1 and even the first half has some of the best scenes in the whole series.

@@blondymonk1535 you can repeat this ad naeseum without presenting any actual criticism but it won't make it true just cause you got filtered by it the themes of corruption, futile struggle against a crooked system, personal issues affecting growth, honor, solidarity, dignity are all presented so well, the actual detecting that happens is a lot more interesting than s1 which is just a glorified cartoon monster hunt I love s1 but if you think it's on some high pedestal far away from s2 you're liking it for the wrong reasons and yea the script and performances in the first half of s2 is uneven but the good parts are brilliant and the payoff is a million times better than s1 which just fizzled out at the end s1 starts off strong and captivating and peaks mid-late season whereas s2 just keeps getting better until the final which shits all over s1's

@@dimcha2669 2 is an incoherent mess with unintentionally funny moments and hammy acting, and to this day I haven't found a reason to care about it. 3 actually is worthy to be in the same series as 1.
