I mean, Younger Marty got exposed to so much bad shit through Rust that he knew what to do to get answers, but he didn't want to act on it. After seeing the tape, he knew that there was no moral abyss he couldn't go down that they hadn't plumbed dry. All bets were off.

@ChrisBrown-ir6sf5 жыл бұрын
@j mula Not really. Jesse got matured after he hooked up with mike in season 4. Getting mentored by mike himself made him more reasonable and smarter. You should know that he was the brain behind the train heist and the evidence destroying magnets idea. Also if you watch the el camino then you will know he basically managed to escape from the whole Albuquerque task force and set a new life in alasca. So I don't think he was the same moronic Jesse from season 1-3 who used to smoke meth all the time and making trouble in every episode.

The sad thing is, Steve probably WASN'T involved in the girls murder/disappearance, but was just doing his typical duty as a cop investigating a missing person..... his duty.... abso-fucking-lutely NOTHING. Most cops who work missing persons cases barely give even half a shit, let alone end up solving the case. So sad. Sad that men like Steve are sheriffs, stealing cars from a kid with "an ounce of refer" but couldn't give 2 fucks about a missing little girl. I think they show him the tape to get a genuine reaction from him, and when he reacts in horror, they know he is not involved, just very fucking incompetent. (Rust mentions earlier how he cannot tell if State PD is involved in the conspiracy, or just THAT fucking incompetent). It's probably both though, since we know for a fact that "Childress" was the name of one of the guards at the prison that night the guy killed himself (the white trash guy who killed the 2 people robbing the pharmacy when he started trying to make a deal talking about the Yellow King, when Rust got suspicious). Clearly the guard named "Childress" had him speak to someone on the phone who scared him into suicide. I only noticed that on my rewatch of the series.

Rebphoenix He was in on it to the sense that Sheriff Childress promoted him for keeping quiet and going along with the "chain of command". Even after they force him to watch the video, he is stuttering and stammering and says "chain of command, that's how this whole thing works, right?" because he fucking KNEW he was wrong, and seriously dropped the ball and a little girl died as a direct result of him being a lazy fuck who was more concerned with fucking over weed dealers than people who sacrifice little children. If they truly believed Steve was involved they probably would've had the sniper friend just take his fat ass out. Either way it was great seeing the look on his face when Marty said "I'm not gonna ask again, HE is." LOL The same actor played another loudmouth drunk bastard named Steve on "Deadwood".

The little throw away line about Steve puking in the girls lap on a double date with Marty because he was going through a hard time takes on brand new meaning when one knows his role and considering the fact they were bringing up Marie Fontaneau at this time. I bet Steve was going through a real rough time with what he thought was in the past suddenly being brought up again but this time in direct connection through the sculptures to another murdered woman who was obviously the work of a sick individual. He couldnt mention it because he couldnt admit to himself what became of her. Unlike Cohle or Marty still could and would avert his eyes, tell himself a story and keep drinking until he believed it. He's furious they robbed him of his denial and incapable of thinking about that little girl he can only focus impotent rage on Rust and Marty. Likely he dies not long after when he fully admits to himself he cant do anything to the guys and is left alone with himself and not what he did but what he didnt do. Neglect and inattention is a theme throughout and the damage done looking everywhere else. Steve is what Marty would have become had he turned his back on Cohle and never saw the tape he would have lived in blissful denial for a little while longer anyway.
