1:32 Woah!! That thing moved side to side in order to gauge the distance -- like owls do! I know it's instinctive, not conscious, but it's amazing to think that a tiny insect like that could have a neurology complex enough to judge distance that way and jump with the right amount of force to hit the target!
@mineduck30503 жыл бұрын
I sometimes think about the conscious level of animals compared to ours. Regardless of how it all started the end design maybe dictates the communicable intelligence. Or recognized consciousness. If you were the design of these insects, perhaps because it does things well that it's design dictates it has to do, they are also experiencing a parallel level of understanding where it applies to them. For instance as hairless weak animals, our design is one of manipulation and creation to use the world around us. This implies the intelligence of reasoning out the manipulations available and understood. This as a survival trait imparts us with the same ability in our society and our communication...all useless values if we were armored millimeter sized leaf jumpers. So maybe it's the difference between abacus and calculator in comparison, yet the application of either are both applied to the same result.

@AK-jt7kh3 жыл бұрын
It’s very likely that the neurology of insects is much more complex than we appreciate. The issue is that we find it hard to understand anything that doesn’t have a brain structure we can already identify with. So the intelligence of things like insects, fish, birds, and reptiles, is beyond our comprehension. We’re constantly finding out they’re way smarter than we thought. Ants, for example, are regarded as the most intelligent insect, and they seem to display emotions and complex behaviors like learning from experience.
@jasperpeer34893 жыл бұрын
I learned more science from a comment section!
@thedoomlord86182 жыл бұрын
@@AK-jt7kh It's still very debatable if they could be classified as "intelligent", since 90% of them lack the ability to understand and solve complex problems from analyzing and comparing them to past situations. Having a single subject constantly have it repeat certain things to make it understand how they have to do it is no sign of actual intelligence, but rather memory. Emotions are no sign of intelligence either. As a counterpoint, take jumping spiders. They're proven to actually do calculations on their jumps, try them out before going for the real deal, aswell as understanding how their prey works and how to abuse specific weakness. But afaik, that's literally a unique and outstanding feat for an invertebrate, that almost never finds an equal in the same weightclass.

1:01 I will never forget when I saw this exact insect for the first time. I was probably about 8, going for a hike in a big national park that was basically just a huge forest and I saw these funny looking insects that were as I described it, "headbanging their mohawks" and at first I only saw a few of them in a low branch but as my eyes looked up THE ENTIRE TREE was covered in them and it was a big tree, probably at least 45 feet tall. And the tree leaned over the path and had branches that locked with another tree AND IT WAS COVERED TOO. Eventually I looked around we were surrounded by these things, rocking and rolling something fierce. And it was so funny and cool and crazy to see these insects that I thought were headbanging just everywhere. I have no idea what they were doing but I have to assume they were opening some sort of rock and roll insect hall of fame and I was lucky enough to get to watch.

For the past few years I've been a natural sciences teacher and would like to express my gratitude for your True Facts series. I love your engaging and hysterical content! Your humor has inspired me to better engage my audience and its made a world of difference. Keep making these videos of the weird and wonderful nature we have all around us! - Also I'm in favor of this Netflix partnership, If you can work on some sort of agreement I think a series would be a really great idea!

I've had a bad day that's turned into the last 6 months which has been connected to the past 3 years . This really makes me feel safe and the commentary perfect enough to help me crack a smile on an especially hard day. Thank you
@jasond.57233 жыл бұрын
Hi, I also enjoy his videos and I’m sorry your having a hard time. It may not help, but your troubles seam larger when you connect them. Naturally your brain categories and compartmentalizes your experiences of the past, and you hold onto them like they are still happening, (even worse all at once) but their not. The past already happened and no longer exist. If today was bad, it was an entirely original and new bad, that has nothing to do with the last 3 years. But I hope you have much more fun on your adventures of tomorrow

Plant hoppers would make cool bosses, like each one has different “hats” so there is a lot of variety. Seriously, I want a game we’re these plant hoppers, or something based off plant hoppers, are the bosses or at the very least one. Sure a scorpion boss is cool, but does it have a cool hat? Also female trilobite Beatles, those are wicked.
