Lincoln once asked, "If we say a dog's tail is a leg, how many legs does a dog have?" Some answered that in that case, a dog has five legs. "No," said Lincoln, "A dog still has four legs. Saying a tail is a leg doesn't make it a leg." A whole generation is being raised to reject just that kind of common sense.

However, by ignoring truth and focusing upon relativity instead, a person for instance may become rich, and in doing so, has also contributed to creating the opposite as well. Scarily 1984 was a process over time and a process mostly used upon the party members. 1984 envisioned a world where the party was everything and ran everything. The proper where left uneducated illiterate and without power. The thought crimes Newsweek etc where to control the party least they revolt. He never envisioned a world where the state would impose thought crime on the populace. This is now leasing to clashes between the groups. That's why the commies and socalists make me laugh they think they can grab the power now but there is less and less chance of uniting anybody.

Chalk it up to postmodernism; the ideal that "all truth is subjective". Not surprisingly, postmodernism was created by Marxists (communists, socialists). By the 1970s the failings of Marxist doctrine had become obvious. To hide the failings of Marxist doctrine a group of rich French intellectuals created postmodernist thinking. In the 1990s Judith Butler of UC Berkely applied postmodernism to identity politics, which has been ruining colleges ever since.

@Toyota Corolla The progressive left, which has been influenced by postmodernist thought, values emotions over reasoning. "Being morally right is more important than being factually correct" They do realize that those supporting the left wing have historically allways been the underdogs, the poor, the oppressed........so when all discriminatory laws were removed, actual poverty dropped to numbers lower than ever before........left-wing politicians in all western countries realized, that their voting base is going to shrink. Thus, they abandoned the working class and instead turned their focus to "minorities", cultivating their *feeling* of opression and reenforcing it. -So the left espoused the idea of open borders, which help no one (often not even the immigrants) and only serve as a way to import new voters.= There is no logical reason to support this policies, but it *feels* right. -They claim to be the advocates for both muslims and homosexuals, even though those are mutually exclusive. -But arguably the clearest manifestation of this "insanity" is their support for "trans-rights", they are celebrating a deviation, that is harmful to the affected and the society alike.

The average vocal group of leftists would sooner eat their own feet than interact in a civilized way with the average vocal conservative group. They ignore opposing ideas, even if that idea is better than their own. For example: A liberal proposes a new housing plan for Detroit (absurd, but bare with me for the sake of the example). The plan would be expensive, it would take a very long time to finish, and perhaps there's no plan for potential roadblocks. Now say a conservative provides an alternative plan. Say this plan is much more affordable, can be done quickly and safely, and has contingency plans. The conservative's idea is arguably better on all fronts, but because it's not the liberal's idea and because it's a conservative planning it, he doesn't like it and actively protests it. For me, several truths can exist, but that shows that the reality we live in it's complex. A simple way of explaining these discrepancies in these "several different truths" is the" six blind men and the elephant tale". The problem i believe that is happening is that weak, dumb, lazy people dont want to be bothered with learning the complexity of the world, and because of this they are happy with having simple answers for complex questions. When a complex question arrives and someone adresses it with a different answer...they can't stand that their answer is not validated and they snap with anger and resentment. A question with no right answer can mean that sometimes you have to sacrifice one thing to gain another. An example is working or trading...you have to sacrifice your time, effort and talent to gain favour from others, and also...you have to make the right decision and research the reputation of that work/deal, otherwise you could be scammed of your hard work...

@@thorn4383 Here is a doctrinal definition of truth that 'holds true' across all sciences. D&C 89: 24 And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come; 25 And whatsoever is more or less than this is the spirit of that wicked one who was a liar from the beginning. "My truth" is an incomplete phrase. "My piece of the truth" is a reasonable statement. Insisting on people accepting "my truth" and completely removing the weight of personal experience are both fallacious and small minded. Do not engage in either.

The Theory of Relativity should have killed the idea that "truth must be the same for everyone". We've known for over 100 years that universal absolute truth is an archaic concept. The truth depends on how you define it.

People declaring themselves god of their own little universe, but then forcing others to accept what they have declared as truth. And the left goes one step further and makes laws enforcing this. Accept their lie or else face the wrath of the law.. This utopia they want cannot exist and will collapse. John 18:37-38 Then You are a king!” Pilate said. “You say that I am a king,” Jesus answered. “For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice.” 38“What is truth?” Pilate asked. And having said this, he went out again to the Jews and told them, “I find no basis for a charge against Him.

"Let’s confine ourselves to the more everyday questions of truth. Like, does it exist?" That's still the science side. You really can't 'push aside' the science side of questions when science is related to everything in the universe...

Sylvertaco - Science is the STUDY of everything in the universe. It has no inherent place among the laws of physics other than just trying to define them. Truth is an absolute. Science seeks to discover truths and correlate them into a theory. The question of 'does truth exist' would be a philosophical one - which I believe has been settled - except for those who now choose to reject centuries of debate by some of the greatest minds that ever existed.
@Sylvertaco5 жыл бұрын
@@txbluzmn - Most of your points are arguing semantics. As for your claim of philosophical truth bring understood, the fact that there has been centuries of debate should be a red flag that it isn't known. If anything, the talk has expanded to the point that an objective answer isnt really expected to be found.
@txbluzmn5 жыл бұрын
I don't feel I'm arguing semantics at all. Words have meaning - another inconvenience of postmodern thought. The fact is that even philosophically, the debate wasn't really 'does truth exist' - but rather how is it defined. Beginning with Aristotle and the correspondence theory through coherence, pragmatism, and all the way up to deflationism in the 1970's, there has always been someone trying to shoot holes in the definition of truth. If you want to accuse someone of arguing semantics you can read up on that....ha. Nothing to do with science. As a matter of fact, if truth is subjective, then science is dead!

@@txbluzmn - "The fact is that even philosophically, the debate wasn't really 'does truth exist' - but rather how is it defined." I can list at least a half dozen famous philosophers in the last 2 centuries that would disagree. "As a matter of fact, if truth is subjective, then science is dead!" Except science is based off of our observation of the Universe. So if the observation itself is flawed, then the science behind it needs to be reanalyzed. This has already occurred hundreds of times throughout history, and the realization of flaws in our understanding of truth has lead to major developments.

@@Sylvertaco - Could you site some of those? "Except science is based off of our observation of the Universe. So if the observation itself is flawed, then the science behind it needs to be reanalyzed." - I couldn't agree more!! Which leads us to Truth being based in verifiable fact, which science does its absolute best and repeatedly falls short - only to be rethought and reanalyzed to come up with a new theory. Like "eggs are bad for you because they contain cholesterol" is science based on what we knew to be true, until a study on cholesterol uncovers a revised truth that "all cholesterol isn't bad for you", which revises.... etc. So, why is it again that you want to bring science into the conversation? :)
