On 9/14/22 Jacob Jolliff and I will take the stage and do what we love to do most - play the good old bluegrass music. Join us Wednesday 9/14 at Rockwood Music Hall if you’re in NYC (and if not, there’s plenty of time to get there!).

Here’s one of my favorite duets, the True Life Blues. Written by Pete Pyle and recorded by Bill Monroe in 1945, this was the first bluegrass song written from a woman’s perspective. Evidently the inspiration was a letter Pyle received from his newly married sister - things were not going well for her, thus this warning to other women about the perils of matrimony.
The original recording features the first (of only two) female Bluegrass Boys, Wilene “Sally Ann” Forester on accordion. Other kick-ass recordings are Hazel & Alice (1975) and Laurie Lewis & Kathy Kallick (1996)
