There’s a year round bounty on coyotes in Virginia. Coyotes are diurnal and hunt during the day. Most return to their dens at dusk.

My experience with game wardens, 2 in my case. They charged me, then filled in details that were not true. One warden bold face lied to the magistrate. I then asked the magistrate if the warden was under oath. He informed me that my case was not a felony charge and that the "truth" is whatever the officer states it is. It was one of the most frustrating events of my entire life. I ended up paying about 2,000 in fines and lost hunting rights for a year. I learned that a badge means nothing. If only i had been recording that day. I could have shown the world a lying no good officer. Instead, its only he and I that know what really happened that day. Also, one of the wardens were on their "first" day of training.

We live on the al ga line, so he would hunt at home to he had property everywhere at home his was allowed to hunt. It is an addiction. As strong as any drug you can think of. All of you poacher or want to be poachers. Just know this. It doesn’t make you cool or the best hunter ever. You’re just ruining your favorite sport. Not only for you but for others also. Most landowners use to would let most anyone hunt turkeys on their land. Poaching has got so bad in some areas that they won’t let anyone hunt now.

Coyote hunters actually do use similar calls that turkey hunters use. This conservation officer made a lot of assumptions which seems a little surprising. I would say for every poacher you catch there are 100 you don't catch. It seems the only time game wardens or conservation officers ever do any checking anymore is when a private citizens makes a report of illegal activity. Did the DWR figure out why this poacher was killing all these turkeys? Was he eating them...or just bragging about them? This poacher was pretty dumb...especially when he knew they suspected him of poaching....not a typical poacher. Poaching has become much easier to get away with in this day and age...cell phones...night vision...suppressors...etc. etc..

I am a die hard turkey hunter like most watching this. NWTF volunteer and lifer. Turkey hunting is the most dangerous non dangerous game hunting a person can do, period. You mix other die hards in with yourself on the same piece and a vocal turkey stuff can get Western very very quickly. These folks risked it all for the rest of us to catch a predator and cancer to the most precious game bird in our country. Hats off to you Wardens and news flash to all poachers… you aren’t hunting, you aren’t hunters, and you aren’t impressive. You are less than. You are risking killing an innocent land owner and person for a trophy that is a mark of nothing more than a delicate, undeserved, game bird that could have changed a true outdoorsman’s life. Find Jesus and fix your self absorbed delusion while you still have time. Take a kid hunting legally and teach them the love of the sport. It’s not about you. It’s about the ethical pursuit and the privilege.

Not to stick up for the poacher... But the 104 digits divided into 2 making 52 birds works but 52 birds taking 17 years isnt right because you can get a non resident tag in another state and hunt more then 3 birds the same year. So if you are a hardcore legal turkey hunter you can get that quickly maybe. But I dont know laws in each state to say and also I dont think someone would round out all states to the max bag limits. But possibly theoretically if you are really good with turkeys and likes to travel and have lots of free time and money you may... be able to do it in a year? idk lol I love how all the real hunters showed up on Officer Heines side. Shows how real hunters are. A poacher is not a hunter but a cheater. I love listening to these stories! Very cool! Great Job Owen Heine! And Virginia DWR... Thank you for the show! 🙂

Seems there’s only a few hunters in this thread. Anyone who didn’t find this warden an ignorant tool isn’t a “real” hunter. The way he spoke about this case proves he is ignorant of firearms and wildlife. Poachers are a plague on the sport and I wish we had harsher penalties for poaching but anyone who took this interview as gospel isn’t very educated. His opinions he tried to spin as facts and tried to pander to the uneducated to demonize this poacher when all he had to do was tell the truth without the spin, the facts were just as damning as the fluff. Fascinating, professional methods, and satisfying outcome. Thanks for a worthy initial video. Appreciate the game warden's service & long career. I'll be watchful for your future DWR productions.

There are several of these type of hunters in each county, maybe more. Not enough Conservation Police to go around. And these poachers will brag on what they kill. They should limit these interviews to no more than 30 minutes. The punishment was not enough. He should have been banned for life for the second, third and fourth violations, and I am in Virginia. Notice they did not do what they do with the other confiscated guns. The VDWR cuts them in half, then they go to the annual hunting show and display a box of cut up guns. Instead they should sell them at auction to Federal Firearms dealers and use the money to help fund the agency. That is the dumbest thing we have ever seen since a kid can take his dad's multiple thousand dollar gun, violate the law, and have the gun cut in half after confiscation. And if the criminal is a minor, well then nothing is done to them.

Rule #1: Never brag about hunting/fishing results. In my state, DEC trolls social media looking for someone taking photos of a harvest and maybe committed a violation.

I thought rifles were illegal for turkey hunting. If it's a legal gun then why do they make such a big deal about it?

The real crime is government making you pay for permission.... You need to pay to drive. Pay to own a business. Pay to hunt. Pay to fish. Pay to use a minnkota trolling motor on a fishing kayak...... Pay me and ill let you is their motto.

It does matter. I appreciate this comment. I was wondering the same thing. If he was feeding his family, there should be no issue. Harvesting wildlife to feed yourself and your family is not a crime.
