Want to know how extreme this went? In america's witchhunting days the procedure for restraining a "Witch" was to strip them naked and completely shave all hair off their body, under the fear that a 14 year old girl might be able to sling curses from her pubes or her armpit hair. Feminists suspect that it was secretly just a ruse for the church to be able to strip girls naked without getting called out for it.

I didn't understand how Bulbasaur's evolutionary line was based on frogs... *...but them i saw Venusaur's walking animation in Let's go...*
@JacobPDeIiNoNi4 жыл бұрын
Although frogs are the intentional and primary design element, I think another more obscure origin is the dicynodonts. They are ancient creatures which look somewhat similar to the bulbasaur line, and some also have names ending in “Saurus”. They certainly take a lot of inspiration from frogs/toads though.

6:47 I think the phalanx idea of Falinks seems to be a misunderstanding brought about by the English translation name being, not wrong, but overly specific. It bugged me that Falinks (my favorite Gen 8 Pokemon) is actually a poor interpretation of a phalanx, given it doesn't cover its front, its biggest weakness, at all. A phalanx is supposed to have its members next to each other with overlapping defense, not behind each other. Note that it doesn't even get Wide Guard (yet). Consider its Pokedex entries. One of them puts emphasis on the part about one of them being a higher rank, while the other states that they can assume a variety of formations (not that they do in the games...) Several of the other name translations that don't copy the English name also reference formations, generally. But someone pointed out its Japanese name ("tairetsu", meaning both 'rank' and 'formation'). So it's actually a reference to "Rank and file", both the higher ranking lead member at the front, and the single file formation (that it almost exclusively walks and battles in) forming behind it. Of course, you can't exactly call it "Rankin", since that name has other animation uses. "Fylin" (file-in), maybe?

Actually speaking, Hydreigon feels like it’s more based on the Hydra, especially as there is a story involving a 9-headed one.
