"Don't use SMR drives" is another sacred cow, like "if you don't use ECC memory your data is already corrupted." All of this gets repeated over and over like a chant, and no one pays attention to use case or nuance. The value proposition and use case for a NAS in a home is usually a lot different than in a business. Data writes tend to be more sequential and less random (think large video files instead of database read/writes) and SMR drives aren't as affected by these types of writes. I wouldn't buy SMR drives, but if you've got em, I agree that its not absolutely dangerous to use them in a home setting, assuming you have backups. You do have backups, right kids?

Yes, i do have an extra backup, I have to admin my ignorance on the matter, but the setups of some so called "homelabs server" that you find on youtube is basically enterprise grade 😂😂😂
