8:12 Instead of uploading manually, I found that you can just upload another file (the virtio windows file included down below) when setting up the VM so that way you don't have to use additional software or instructions in order to allocate 2 CDROMS and look for a way to put the virtio file on the other CDROM device. Edit: Also, you don't have to use windows server installation for the VM. You can just download an iso file for standard windows if you plan to use the VM as your own personal PC. I personally use it to do 24/7 livestreaming and doing via my method works just fine. I'm sure you can also use this to do anything you need unless you specifically need a server OS.

For some unexplained reason, I cannot get my keyboard to work in VNC The mouse moves the cursor, but none of the keys work. Any ideas?

Newer versions of Scale want you to use an Admin account and not root, and your SSH method does not work with Admin (Permission denied). You would need to create a new account that can see the dataset you want to put the ISO in.

Need a hand. Followed everything all the way. Installed drivers off cd using the guest tools. I lost my mouse cursor. I restarted and it still won't come back. Any advice

This setup does not allow for guest to host communication over the network due to limitations of trunas scale. Not much help to have a VM that cant talk to the network attached storage.

TrueNAS Scale works well for VMs but it’s still a bit clunky and needs lots more of options, features and monitoring. Staying with ESXi for now until Scale becomes more mature and feature rich.

I agree that it is not as features complete as an ESXI, Proxmox or Hyper-V. But I think it will get there pretty quickly.

one emulates a Intel device and is limted in its performace, the other (virtio) uses paravirtulisation and is as close to the real hardward as possible.
