The MD-88 could perform a seriously quick takeoff roll with a light load. They certainly were dinosaurs that really needed to be retired, but I'm still sad to see them go. Many happy flights on them over the years. My last ended up being on N903DE mid-2019. My last flight was supposed to be in May 2020, but Delta stopped service at my local airport for roughly a year until spring 2021.

I used to be an FA for SAS(Scandinavian Airlines). These were the workhorses of the fleet before the A320s came in. Love-hate relationship... Loud as hell in the back but quiet in the front. When it came to turbulence though... these aircraft could handle anything...

Yes the MD-88 was very quiet up front. The MD-90 doubly so. The only noise you heard up front in an MD-90 was the wind. They also had much better lavatories up front compared to other aircraft that cram one in between the cockpit and boarding door.

Still don’t understand why delta removed the MD-90 as well. They were “much” newer than the -88s!

Any seat on that flight was a good one, even if it was 10A. Most of us were just happy to be there.
