It looks good and less spacious to store with low walls. Only drawback is that low wall prevents building a upper floor ontop. Not that is used during play much, but in modeling and showcasing.

At 3:46 I think that some pf the tiles look odd. They don't fit together correctly. Inside the room the door wall and the tile to the right's wall are offset to each other. Another thing is outside the same problem occurs. This is not enough to stop me wanting these but just wanted to know I there is a way to stop this.another question: Why cant you just use 2 pieces of wall side by sideI would love if someone could reply. These look amazing and its really good that you can make it and paint it yourself. They are so affordable (as long as you have a 3d printer anyway)

Looks awesome, I'm going to test out the sample pack in the next couple of days. I was wondering if you have larger size field tiles for bigger room layouts? Also, I noticed at 5:40 when you pick it up, one of the central room tiles starts to fall out because there's no way to clip it in. Understandably you won't be picking up your dungeon very often, but if doing a very larger room how well some the 2x2 tiles hold together? I've been printing off some OpenForge stuff lately and attaching with magnets, but I used to build terrain with the cardboard and always loved the small wall design, so will probably put some sample dungeons together. I never liked the half-squares of the openforge stuff or the shared walls problems.

At the start, I was worried you just scaled up the squares. It's a pretty good idea, although I do wish you'd shown the absolute difference between building the room first and building the corridor first in the worked example (which is just that one wall has moved 1/4 inch - the grid is still identical).
@WylochsArmory

+Adderkleet I see what you mean. Yes, the wall might be in on a different "side" but as you said, the grid is preserved, and in all cases, every single game space can accomodate a 1" miniature.

Hey there, first off: Great explainatory video of your concept! A serious question though: I own a 3D printer and use it for a hobby, designing my own miniatures. But I want to turn it into a business at some point and I was thinking about destributing sort of dungeon-like modular digital kits ... and while sketching out ideas I was running into the same wall-problem that you solved with your design (how explained at about 2:50 in the video). During researching for solutions I stumbled accross your video and think to myself, this problem is driving me nuts and that's exactly what I was looking for! But since I've noticed your copyright, I would like to ask, would it be okay to use your ratio (with the 1/4" walls and the overall 1,25" fields) for designing my tiles? Or is using this exact ratio already infringing your copyright? I mean I wouldn't use any other of your design-elements (like the low walls, the little connector-clips, the clip-on-doors/objects/etc.). I'm not even planning for a medieval or fantasy like setting, so I wouldn't even catch your target audience with my stuff. But your solution to the tile size and wall ratio stuff is really ingenious (yet so simple) and it would totally solve all my design conception problems. I'm looking forward to your response! Keep up the great work! 😊

You can make them from foam core poster-board and card stock 10 times faster than you can 3D print them. For even more complex details you can cut up foam egg cartons to use as individual bricks, stones and doors in a poser-board wall. The poster-board wall pretty accurately represents a 6 inch thick wall. Its not worth the filament t print the tiles... 3 weeks t make enough for a 3 ft X 4 ft dungeon map (Then start painting) vs less than 4 hours of work to do the same in poster-board (painting is done) You have virtually the same painting time either way....

I like this in so many ways; the short walls, doors, and snap together using the wall clips. However, for a large room with field tiles, there is not an easy way to clip those together without using the open-lock version or creating, and printing large field tiles with walls. I guess one could duct tape from the bottom. That said, I do not like the 'open-lock' system. It requires thick tiles, clunky clips, --and as you pointed out on the tradition design, thick tall walls--all which use a lot of plastic and print time. And all that has to be painted too.

i find this self defeating because alot of us craft our own tiles from cardboard and on the cheap. items like the clip on doors and other parts can also be made from these same materials. 3d printing is fantastic but it gets costly and the time it takes to print and the sheer quantity needed just doesn't compete with a DIY crafter.

Many feel like you do. But many (many) do not. Many have been clamoring for a 3D printed solution in lieu of crafting. So here it is. I applaud your preference for crafting (honestly I kinda prefer it sometimes myself)
@seigeengine
@seigeengine 5 жыл бұрын
I highly doubt many are doing any such thing. It requires you to be completely uninterested in creating your own things, yet simultaneously willing to finish and paint them, while not willing to buy a commercial product solution to the problem. It's a weird middle ground that really doesn't make any practical sense. Seems more of a gimmick than anything to me. Pros: You don't have to be creative. Cons: Higher cost, higher labour, less flexibility, higher capital costs, higher skill requirement
@MoragTong_

@@seigeengine Lol higher cost. For what it takes to get equipped to REALLY craft, you can get a 3d Printer. Once you do so, you can print these tiles for between 0.05 - 0.10 cents apiece. The creativity comes in designing anything you can possibly imagine.
@seigeengine
@seigeengine 5 жыл бұрын
How about you read my comment all the way through before whining at me about your 3d printing fetish? Also, first of all, you mean $0.05-$0.10, not 0.05-0.10 cents, and I'm not really sure where you're getting that notion. All the sources I'm pulling up (as well as looking at plastic density, dimensions of tiles, cost of filament, etc.) suggest the cost is more $0.50-$1.00 per tile for simple economical tiles, all of which is printing costs sans finishing work. In contrast, I just quickly hit up some of the first links I found for commercial 3d dungeon terrain and found prices ranging from $0.80-$2.00/tile. In contrast, I can pick up the materials to DIY some and get them to the same stage of completion for maybe $0.05/tile. Look at those numbers. It's much more expensive to 3D print than use other at-home methods, and the costs of 3D printing them, while generally lower than buying 3D tiles, aren't all that much lower. I can see why it works for some people, and if it's the route you choose to go, that's fine, but acting as if this is some great solution for the masses is ridiculous.

@@seigeengine I'm with@seigeengine on this one. I like making the tiles with the card board and the odds and ends I collect, I am now making a "Dungeon Bowl"(a varient of BLOOD BOWL" for my husbands gaming club The Thursday Night Hero's".) and while I have a painting service, and I could buy a 3D Printer, it just seems less "hands on" and fun finding pieces that work...I don't know.

this was not pioneered by Dm Scotty... people have been doing this for years lol. but still cute that a new generation feels it is something new :D

Perhaps the better word then is "popularized."

Wondering why you don't offer both short walls and normal sized walls for the option. Not every gamer or dm prefers short walls.

Our contention is: they really should.

@@WylochsArmory unless you use combinations of short and high walls in your games. Height of hallways and rooms at a glance really helps larger characters or flying characters know their limitations. I've heard as many good arguments for short walks as I've heard against them. So why cut out potential customers and offer both? It wouldn't be difficult at all. Or maybe I just run more complex games than most... love the idea, think I'll just make my own.
