I shoot every day. Inevitably this release fails. The grub screws not only loosen but they wear so sooner or later, even if you can keep the heads from rounding out, you just can't tighten them enough. I've been through 3 now, sending them back for warranty each time. The problem is that I love this release about ten times more than any other BT/Hinge release I've ever used. Longhorn, Carter Honey, Stan Element and Jet Black, Tru Ball Bt and Ht. I like them all to varying degrees but none of them fits my hand as perfectly as this one. Obviously a subjective thing. Man it breaks my heart that I have to finally give this one the boot. Blue loctite is a temp fix at best. Note: I do shoot every day so if you don't shoot that often maybe you won't run into this. But I shot all those others day in and day out for much longer than I've been using this and never had a single issue.

Russell, thanks for the input. I think this comment will help a lot of people out. I don't shoot that much and when I do I'm only using this release for part of the time to try to break bad habits with my trigger release.

Would it be feasible if one has a drill press or something of the sort, to drill into the sear and lock it in at a pivot point with a screw? Just a thought, I have one of these and although I have yet to run into the issue I'd like to find a remedy before it occurs. That way it seems that the mechanism would be locked in place through more of a pin-style mechanism rather than pinched between two set screws. Another thought is maybe the breakdown of the screws could be fixed by finding screws of the same size but a more durable material base to better withstand the pressure being applied to them. Maybe they won't break down as fast, maybe they won't wear at all. I'd really like to figure something out because the release is super crisp

Good points Robert. I was thinking along the same lines as you. If you can dimple the side or the sear where the srews make contact it would be less likely to slip and you wouldn't have to drill all the way through. Maybe a harder screw material would work if you can find it.

Use this release as a training aid. Set screws got loose on me once or twice. Went back and retighten both set screw equally and haven't had any more issues. I normally shoot every Friday for about 7 hours with some breaks in between. My group have tighten a whole lot. Recommend to torque the 4-40 set screws per the recommended requirements to prevent them from coming loose. So far I been happy using this release

Thanks for the feedback! I've had the same issues with the set screws. I think I'm going to dimple the sides of the seer to let the screws get a better bite.

My set screws kept coming out. Literally after like 30 shots it would hang up as they wound out. Returned it. Liked the feel of it but never got too far with it

Chris, I'm having issues with mine too. I've been using other releases and only occasionally come back to this one just to mix it up.

Great review! I was wondering what your setup is for hunting (what bow/sight) you use? FYI I use the Scott Long Horn Hex hinge release and I love it ! I use it for hunting and 3D archery it has improved my shot process and eliminated any type of punching or anticipating the shot . You should try it!

I'll take a look at that release. I'm having trouble with anticipating the shot which is what i was working on with this SEAR release. My setup: Bowtech Insanity CPX, 70#, 28.5" draw; Spot Hogg Tommy Hogg - 3 pin sight; Axis FMJ arrows, Octane stabilizer. I only recently switched to the Tommy Hogg sight. I was using a Spot Hogg Hunter 5-pin before. I just shot a 3D tourney 2 weeks ago and that dial sight was awesome for that.

Does anyone have problems with their Sear release?

Hi Felix! I haven't had a problem with it. Did you encounter a problem? I did have the set screws that hold the sear in place back out slightly one time. I tightened them down and they haven't moved since.

Strix Outdoors Hello, yea I do. Sometimes when I pull back it fires even if I have my thumb on the peg. I have a Scott Backspin Hindge release, and I no problems with it. I noticed also when I pull it back I struggle with it lol.

Strix Outdoors I have at a Cold setting.

Hmm.. not sure. I will say that simply having your thumb on the peg won't save you. I have to be very conscious about the angle of my wrist as I draw it back. You may try putting your thumb on the top or the very tip to make sure you don't rotate your wrist as you draw and then slide your thumb back down to the peg as you go through your shooting sequence. Do you have it on a click setting? Are you hearing the click and then it releases as you're drawing or does it just release? Double check that the sear wheel isn't moving also. I've never tried the Backspin so I couldn't give you a reference. I'm not good at shooting the hinge releases at all. I struggle to be accurate with it but it DOES "reset" my habit of anticipating the shot so when i switch back to my trigger release I am much more stable and have better follow-through.

Strix Outdoors I have it on the no click, same with my Scott. I like it with no click. I was thinking I need to draw at a more down angle.

Haha. Thanks for reaching out. Way behind on videos but I don't really intend to cover this release much in the future. I still use it occasionally to try to break bad habits and I have encountered some problems getting the set screws for the sear star (multiple sear options integrated) to hold. They seem to always slip after a while. I'm probably going to try to notch the side of the sears so the allen screw doesn't slip.

@@strixoutdoors I've just bought one of these releases used, and am now reading about these issues with the grub screws and worrying. Did you ever do the modifications you mention above? I was wondering if having some kind of friction material between the tip of the grub screw and the sear would help? Maybe some type of plastic? Unrelated but on a Beiter plunger button I use for recurve archery, they use little "plugs" of nylon between the grub screws and the cylinder they are meant to lock, so the screws push the nylon into the metal - it seems to work quite well in that application anyway..
@strixoutdoors

@@jonedwards7019 I haven't done the modification. I started playing with other type of releases and it's been a while since I came back to this one. A nylon tip may work but may just not be so secure.
