Regarding clay soils, I have heard good things about adding humic acid as a soil conditioner.

This quote is from the internet, but it explains it better than I could: Humic acid is particularly beneficial for clay soils because it helps loosen compacted clay particles, improving water penetration, aeration, and overall soil structure by essentially "spacing out" the clay particles, making it easier for roots to grow and access nutrients.
