The problem is that Russia does not have money they could pay for a worst case scenario, like the sinking of a damaged vessel, in front of a major port or in the middle of an isthmus. Russia `s reserves in Dollar are frozen, and the rest they have they cannot use because of SWIFT ban, they are OUT of the global financial system. More over, the Rubel has no value outside Russia, and even IN Russia, its value decreases geometrically. So, it is not even insured on paper, because it is a fraudulent Pariah state, that is not expected to be able to pay anything.

Should be expected really... While a generalist, predicting the future is difficult. More over, the things he's been right about are relating to demographics and geographics (most predictable.) But KZbin and the audience encourages content - and this is marketing. So scope creep away from core competency and most predictable domains is going to happen. You'll notice as well, that the conversation Peter has rarely recognizes that most of the things he comments on are parts of complex adaptive systems. And humans solve problems. So making a prediction because of xyz political/economic change you've just witnessed doesn't mean that it will be so in the future. Eg "China can't do AI because they don't have the chips." Reality: china develops new chips utilising new technology. And develops and LLM model almost on par with OpenAI o1 utilising half the resources. The world is hard. He made his bones predicting from demo and geographics. And now scope creep is occuring.

The moment you blockade one side, that side no longer sees any benefit in “everyone else has cheap shipping but me” so they start disrupting it. Case in point, Iran gave a few drones and missiles to Houthis in Yemen, and they were able to disrupt global shipping line. And since complex technology usually doesn’t work when you have just 99% parts in a product, even one single disruption in supply chain can potentially tank everything. That’s why you should have had plan for the next step before doing such step. Like reorganizing your supply chains, building factories in different places, preparing your navy to secure only vital zones to your interest.
