Admittedly, I don’t know Argentina fromTango, but political concentrations in the hands of a few super-rich is the realm of oligarch puppet shows that Sanders and Biden are harping on. Those seeds of discontent are planted in the furrows of Trump’s promises. We all hope he succeeds in his MAGA glory, as his failure fails us. Polis and Biden won’t be there to blame. But it’s private debt, not public debt, that will doom his ambitions, DOGE ignoring what the budget has put in their pockets. Consumer debt is witness to the 70% of our economy that Elon can never replace. Consumption austerity and debt repayment risk general prosperity as surely as paying China our profits and salaries. Wall Street shares add nothing to growth and venture capital funds paint such wide strokes as to enrich only their managers. Government-guaranteed securities for TVA and Hoover dam paid vast and general returns in doing the nation’s heavy lifting. Family wealth and retirement savings should achieve things, not be a Wall Street parking lot where leveraged takeovers are the object, instead of R&D results that US citizens expect from corporations granted charters here. They expect BOTH shareholder interests AND the public interest to be served equally. That’s not what barons want. That’s why they are drilling into Trump’s backside now, seeking favor. Solar and wind are China wages and profits, and I get that. ARPA funding for superseding those with maser deep-drilling tech for local geothermal energy without a new grid is great, except ordinary citizens are barred by law. Accredited Investors Only, the sign says. Reg CF is intended to free-up citizen funding, but it’s just not as easy as a thumbs-up on a KZbin video. It should be. That’s putting American spending to work for utilities that drive economic growth, not Climate Change and Maoist Power. EU wouldn’t need Russian energy, ever again.

Let's hope Milei gets re-elected. With sweeping changes, things always get worse before they can get better, and the public generally doesn't realize or accept that, especially in Argentina that has 3/4 of it's population sucking the teet of government for handouts to survive until the next day. It's hard to win votes when you are taking peoples money away, even when that's exactly what the country needs in the long-term to get out of the massive hole it is in.

Perón sounds alot like the modern Democrat party. Really not fair comparing the deficit in 2020 to Biden deficit because of COVID. Trumps 2019 Deficit was 0.98T where Bidens 2024 was 1.83T. Double that of Trump's 2019. The Demo-fascist party is the party following Perón's path. "fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/"

2:04 Hmm, ARM's base designs is still made in the UK to my knowledge? Or what about Nordic Semiconductor work in RISC-V chip design, in Norway? If we talk telecom Ericsson in Sweden and Nokia in Finland is this the western companies with most expertise in design for chips in base-stations and what about Taiwanese MediaTek that's working with Nvidia on new designs of ARM processors? Yes, the likes of Nvidia, Apple, AMD, Intel and Qualcomm are very prominent. But they're not alone.

I enjoy Zeihan...when he avoids Trump. When Peter tries to "talk" about Trump, all his liberal ideologies bleed through his commentary. "Ethno-centrism". It's tough to overcome. Peter should think through that...at least try. Cheers Peter, your commentary and view on Trump...well, sucks.

Interesting that COVID wasn't mentioned at all for Trump's highest deficit. More predictable really. It's true that entitlements, military spending and interest payments are the largest line items. But dropping Netflix and changing your thermostat do yield savings.

I wouldn't draw a hard parallel between Peronism and Trumpism, but Trumpism does take a lot of cues from failed south american populist governments such as Peronism so it makes sense that most hispanics in the US vote for Trumpism, they can't help it, it's in their culture to self-destruct by exchanging long term benefit for short term, it's what we have seen in south america for decades and decades and is what we have seen in the US since Obama. Agentina has woken up, lets just hope they don't get back to sleep.

Milei doesn’t fit in with the Republican Party of today? Except he goes to multiple Republican functions in the U.S., attended multiple Trump rallies last year as well as the RNC and attended Trump’s inauguration in person. Peter is about to catch another L dying on the “Trump is a fascist” hill. Trump may dissolve FEMA, is gutting a lot of the IRS, is catering favor from the banking and tech industry because of his targeted deregulation but is more “Peronist”? No the U.S. isn’t becoming more “Peronist”. There’s a major nationalist movement in the U.S. that is growing that is more similar to the nationalist movement that supported Teddy Roosevelt than Juan Peron.

Peronism: The Justicialist Party created by Perón is generally placed on the left of the political spectrum. Peronism is described as socialist by many political scientists, classified as a variant of nationalist socialism, paternalistic socialism, non-Marxist socialism, and Catholic socialism.

You know one funny thing about Argentina's politics? The country that's beeen in economic turmoil since forever, defaulted nine times on national debt, and has devalued their currency so much that the currency introduced in 1992 (peso) is worth 10 trillion less what it was back in 1970 and it deteriorated much farther still since 1992. But in it's in 200 years of flawed democracy never elected an economist as president before: Milei is the first economist in charge of the presidency. It's like always consulting with your plumber when you have a medical emergency.

It's so ironic & alarming that China has been eyeing Taiwan very closely. It's was also very ironic to behold the destruction of the unprecedented "Hurricane Helene" that ravaged North Carolina. South Africa recently passed a law requiring white farmers to give up their land with zero compensation, possibly resulting in another Mugabe's type catastrophe, which resulted in a total economic collapse of Zimbabwe. In yet another tragedy, the wildfires are raging in & around Sillicon Valley. Unfortunately, Governor Newsom, makes it obvious that he is more concerned with countering misinformation than fighting the actual wildfires themselves, utterly destroying California & it's economy. The Changos Islands are on the chopping block for Keir Starmer, who risks 1 of the most important US military posts in the world, Diego Garcia. The US & the western world need that critical base to monitor activities of China & Iran. President Trump is very serious about purchasing Greenland. It has abundant resources needed for the entire free world. Russia & China are patrolling the area around the Artic circle, & in the process, cutting vital underwater cables that Europe depends on. Only recently, the UK intercepted the Russian spy ship, The Yanter in the English channel. All of these view's are just my opinion, you are the geopolitical expert Mr Zeihan. I used to be an extreme progressive, however, I also see the writing on the wall & I'm so enraged with the current state of the democrat party & the leftist governments in Europe, because it feels like they do not fight for the interest of their people.

Sadly too many people are stuck in their ideology. Trump is a supporter or small federal government and empowering state rights and state control of budgets which requires effective local government. Too many “experts in their own mind”only focus on reduction of so called “ entitlements”. In business (and the US government is the world’s largest incorporated business), there is an adage.. “ you cannot cut your way to prosperity!”. Trump is also focused on domestic and international growth. All economists understand there are 2 pillars to growth reform. Those of you locked in fairy tale ideology ignore the reality of the world in which we compete, to your own detriment.

His record in his first term shows that.... and he is no much more aware of how to handle the obstructions created by the Democrats.

Next Hegseth will stop having been a warrior, Bondi will cease having been a lawyer? Trump was on the ground in LA, talking with folks, and quoting them in the meeting after. He listed out at least 3 local names that might be good in new positions being discussed as a result of these conversations and meetings. One man show? I'm out.

I love Peter, and he is right about many things, but not about the population thing. The Chinese are in a good position to manage the declining population which will require less resources to support and support a higher standard of living for fewer people. Reducing population will improve the standard of living. Consumption is not essential to economic health if you adopt a sustainable economic model rather than a growth based model.

Is about shadow banking. Some of WW2´s loot ended up in Argentina via the Swiss. The money is still there and some of the German veterans are still there The constant economic chaos in Argentina and its sort of remote location makes it ideal for today´s South America´s money laundering cartels because keeps international regulators busy and frustrated.. This all started around 1945 on Pero´s watch

Just a couple of notes... German veterans are all pretty gone, time took care of that... Some of them even managed to have illustrious careers down here, like Kurt Tank, who was our little Werner von Braun. But what's completely gone, I can assure you, is the money: do you really believe than in a country so riddled with corruption at every level that money would last more than just a few minutes? It was long gone before those German veterans learnt how to say "hola!"
