I'm on disability and rely on public assistance for food. I have been buying canned food and pre-packaged food that I'm leaving untouched in case things get dicey in the next couple of years. I will keep buying food that will last every chance I get until sanity returns (if it ever does). I live in Alaska and most food comes through Canada by truck and anything that has to be air shipped is already quite expensive. Food prices in Alaska are some of the highest in the nation, though there are more farms and greenhouses here than most people realize. Even with more farms and small gardens, our growing season is short (but intense: nearly 24hrs of sunlight), it wouldn't be enough. There isn't much land for domestic animals and local animals still haven't been domesticated and even if hunting was done on a wide scale, it wouldn't make much of dent. Plus years and years of republican "leadership" and MAGA policies have left record numbers of people here homeless and struggling to find enough to eat. Things are going to get really really bad up here.

I started stocking up over a year ago. I was concerned not only at the political landscape, but also at the prospect of increasing climate disasters, AND at that time, bird flu popped off in my state. I have: -Survival gear and tools, including things for power outages and city water failure. -Hard copy reference materials -Seeds, roots, and garden supplies, plus ways to preserve and freeze -Reusable household supplies like cotton napkins and towels -Gallon jugs of basic dishsoap, cleaning soloutions, disinfectant, personal soap, etc -And food of course. I focused on shelf stable, no-frills nutrition like dehydrated egg and milk, oats, dry beans, white rice, plain pasta, ramen, baking staples, texturized veg protein, and added a variety of flavor mixes and dehydrated ingredients. I also have a lot of frozen stuff like meats, veggies, fruit, and cheese and other dairy staples. I think if the economy gets really unstable (or big disasters really hit repeatedly), Americans might learn this time to eat simpler and more sustainably.

So I swapped out American products for products that were sold by Canada and Mexico… I did this because I want to support Canada and Mexico.. I’m also boycotting restaurants in stores that have dropped DEI initiative and have supported the Republican party.. It is one small step, but it is my step.. You know even before this year I always randomly wondered if the US was in the position that Poland, Ukraine, or any other country in need was in...who would come to our aid and who would rescue us. Throughout basically the entirety of history, the US has been the one that joins other wars to help other countries. We always get involved in every single war that happens across the world. But who will come to rescue US? I guess the answer is no one. No one really ever stopped to think that since we're the country who has "the greatest military in the world," what happens when that military turns on its own citizens? If we supposedly have the biggest and best military, then who can possibly defeat us and help the captive citizens of the US??

I never stopped building a supply of non-perishables, staples, and household supplies, after Covid. Just buying a few extra each shopping trip, over the last three years, not hoarding, just slowly adding insurance for our household, against the next catastrophe. It's not just economic uncertainty we're facing. I'm in Western NC. Climate change is here and it's going to keep affecting urban areas in worse and worse ways. So we also have an "apocalypse corner" with survival and emergency items. I even have a couple of inexpensive ham radio sets and a couple of texts that detail proper emergency transmission protocols. Learned my lesson on that after Helene! I delivered a starlink unit up the mountain that week, and was shocked that no one in that little community had a ham set, not even the sheriff.

I am trying to bolster my savings as much as I can since I'm several years behind. My house and car are both paid off. Currently over 50% of my retirement is dependent on SS. I am doing everything I can to reduce that as much as possible. I was originally planning on working until 67, but now plan on claiming SS (if there is anything left to claim) at 67 and working for another couple of years and banking all the ss check, plus 50% of my paycheck. If there is no SS left when I turn 67, well, I guess I'll have to work until I drop dead.

I grew up in earthquake country and there was a focus on stocking up on essentials for an emergency Ive been through two bad earthquakes, a hurricane, a pandemic, and layoffs. My stupid box of supplies got me through bad times, also keep some cash where you won't be tempted. It's so odd that the petrolheads with their Iove of the IC engines DO NOT praise EV drivers to the stars. Every EV you see on the road is one less IC car in the gas line, sucking up gasoline and pushing up the price. The reduced demand for gasoline puts downward price pressure on fuel. So, if you love your IC car, you should also love the EVs.

They do taste the same but the yolks get a different more gel-like consistency, making them difficult to use in some recipes, especially in baking

We began stocking up as soon as Trump was elected in anticipation of the crises we are now facing. We are also giving careful consideration to what stores we will buy from. Those that have openly bent the knee we will not purchase from. Next step is to cancel tv subscriptions which will hurt, but hitting their wallets will definitely make them take notice. Looking for more ways to show our protest for this despicable regime.

I slowly started stocking up as soon as I heard Trump had won. I bought a tablet, and a car, and slowly bought slowly perishable items a few items at a time and storing them away. I know I can't plan for everything but every bit helps!

Toilet rolls! If Canadian timber is reduced there will be less cordwood for paper making so there may be a run on toilet paper! People seem to put the highest premium on their bottoms when there is a risk of shortage!

I started stocking up right after the election. Nothing major, just a little here, a little there. Storage using various methods. I am not doing it, but probably best method for long-term egg storage would be changing to powder. It takes work though. KZbin has videos on how. I do not recommend freezing. Still edible, but don't taste good or cook well. Produce, combination of freezing, drying, and jarring. Got into a small argument last week when I said I was preparing for a 7 year famine. Between tariffs, loss of agricultural workers, H1N1, and the effects of climate change... they didn't believe any of it. But hey, if I'm wrong, I haven't lost anything. But if I'm right?

I started stalking up as soon as he was announced president. Toilet paper, bar soap, hand soap, baby shampoo, diapers, wipes, laundry soap, fabric softener, dryer sheets, paper towels, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. I’m sure people think I went overboard but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I try and pick up some extra stuff every week I go to the store.

Most actual experts don't claim it's completely clean. We're aware that it's a transition technology. Just as we have to keep producing hydrocarbons to help developing nations transition from even worse polluting combustables. Wood-->Coal-->Oil-->Natural Gas-->Electric-->??
