As an American Catholic, I really appreciate your -- as always -- spot-on and eloquent analysis! We Trump supporters felt as if we could finally exhale when Trump was sworn in. I'm no fan of Tik Tok, but here's a little more background about Trump's position on it: He used it very effectively for his campaign, and it's widely credited for significantly increasing his share of the youth and young adult vote. Hence his reluctance to shut it down. American conservatives seem to be split on whether it should be banned. There is significant concern about the CCP using it to spy on Americans, and yet there's also concern that banning it would amount to government censorship of media and could set a very dangerous precedent. I'm not entirely sure of all the details, but I believe Trump is giving TikTok 90 days to sell a significant portion of the company to Americans -- or something similar.

I liken my investigation into what's going on around me is similar to how a panel beater treats a bog repair to get it correct. Rough paper, going vertical, horizontal and diagonal. Then medium paper and finally the smooth paper with water both done vertically, diagonally and horizontally. I guess that aligns with triangulation? Confirmation Bias, pretty much the norm for most people; Why? Because, 1) it's too difficult to obtain and process "source" material for the average person. 2) Even with "source" material, it's still largely too difficult to go through a reasoned and logical exploration of it with all the other "sources" competing for the same examination. 3) None of us live in reality (if reality is defined as: "absolute reality" i.e. having all knowledge ), so we only have a small "peep hole" into what it might be, but often we tend to be rock solid in our beliefs, even though we don't possess enough information to hold to that belief to that degree. To formulate a valid opinion it's important to hear both sides and weigh the argument.....but who's got time for that? So, most compromise, we trust certain people, (who will usually align with our beliefs) and dismiss those we don't. A good strategy? Not really, but what's the alternative? There's just too much information overload on all aspects of daily life to do otherwise.

Trump is like Marmite - you either love him or you hate him. When he first came onto the political scene my first impression was that he was too much like Mussolini. Just as Mussolini promised to make Italy great again, Trump offers a great deal. No everyone was impressed by Mussolini. The King appointed him against the advice of his Ministers. He did, of course, finally appreciate that he had made a mistake in 1943 and dismissed him. The USA has no King who can dismiss Trump. He has a majority in both Houses and can do whatever he wants. He has made a number of “Executive Orders” which, he assumes, by a wave of his hand, will solve all of the problems currently facing the USA. However, in the USA an Executive Order is rather like an Order in Council under our own Constitution. The action taken must be in accordance with the Constitution and the empowering legislation. There is nothing to stop Sir Keir Starmer advising the King to make an Order in Council abolishing the right to arrive here by inflatable dinghy and claim political asylum. However, the Courts would strike it down, because the necessary enabling legislation does not exist. Commentators have already pointed out that some of the Executive Orders are not valid unless the Constitution is first amended. This would require a two-thirds majority in both Houses - and Trump does not have the necessary majority to achieve this.

He did not place his hand on either Bible. Most Presidents have done so. Sometimes there have been exceptions - when President Kennedy was assassinated, Lyndon B. Johnson, who was on Air Force One when he was sworn in, made use of a Missal, which was all that was available. Trump was offered two Bibles, one used by Abraham Lincoln at his swearing in and one given to him, I understand, by his mother.
