In India, the third gender is recognised. A law passed by Modi govt of all. Looking at some of the steps taken in US, I feel India is a lot more liberal. Even Abortion is not an issue in India. Convicted felons can't hold public office here. Supreme court judges don't have lifetime membership. The PM doesn't have sweeping powers like the president. Outside of who's opinion it is for how people choose to live their lives- I as a trans woman feel quite vulnerable to the openness of potential violence and discrimination with this new bill. I've been trans for a number of years now and am deemed as "passable". My transition was never about stripping away from anyone but more about navigating under a system that oppresses us all, as safely as possible for me. I imagine that me being fully presentable as I am yet having ID's or monikers that suggest otherwise puts me at the mercy of whomever is beholden of that information, and seeing as now how many people actually indeed hate trans people... makes it very scary indeed.

Americans brought this on themselves. Over the last few years the gender spectrum discourse has not made any sense. It has totally deviated from its original intention. The fact that today literally anyone could come up with their own gender is bizzarre. Similar to the US you can see the same thing happening in Canada. Children in schools are being taught this at a very young age. At an age where they can barely understand anything let alone gender. This is one of the main reasons that many people are moving their children into Catholic schools. People are even converting just coz they want their children to be studying in Catholic schools.

I think it is pertinent to understand that DEI is not just affirmative action. Yes, it includes affirmative action but encompasses significantly more than that. DEI includes includes small and obvious things like making sure your place of work is wheelchair accessible (for example). It includes making sure that there is a designated area for nursing women to pump or feed her child. It includes protecting female candidates from being asked questions on whether she has a child or intends to have a child (say in the next 5 years) during the interview process.

There were talks from the Biden administration to mandate not using preferred pronouns as hate speech and there were multiple judicial consequences for failing to comply depending on the context provided by the victim. And this is common sense, since basic observations show us that small changes (leading towards sedentary) in basic lifestyle in normal individuals, causes hormonal imbalances leading to long-term health issues, then medication and medical procedures causing long-term changes or affecting you normal hormonal functions should be restricted and done without any oversight only after 21 years of age.

I am Indian. And Lesbian. 36 years old as of now. I was married and have a kid of 5 years age. I always had attraction towards girls. And had girlfriend in school. We had shared kisses,hugs and much more. My parents made me write declaration on paper that I would never do any such thing which will harm their honor in society. I did that. I got married to male ,reproduced a kid. After birth of my child ,I told my ex-husband that I am lesbian,I never wanted to get married and have kid but my parents made me do that. He understood the thing and we got divorced. I feel like I was raped to conceive. Isn't it honor for Heterosexuals? Raping ? Those who impose their views on LGBTQ people in the name of religion and god. Aren't they Rapists? Aren't my parents helper of Rapist ? Is Trump not rapist ?

No media, no person will ever be neutral. That's a fact of life. In terms of politics, some will always be left leaning, some will always be right leaning. The problem is veering too much to the left or right. In the west, the left has gone too too far from the centre. In India, the right has gone very far to the right. The problem with the left leaning media in India is that it does a good job in highlighting the excesses of the right wing here in India but wrongly views the west right wing politics, especially the one in US ,with the same lens. That's where they get things wrong. They fail to recognise the damage the lefties have caused there and equate Trump with Modi. That is true. I do agree on that. Cancel culture is extremely toxic. I think many people also do not encourage the behavior to cancel people who do not understand. In fact, many believe they should only target those who instigate hatred towards trans. But it goes both ways, there has been a lot of violence and hate speech directed at people who identify as trans. They have experienced discrimination, and a great deal of hatred simply for existing in the public eye. And now with the current state of affairs they will have to endure it both online and offline which is even more horrifying.

@antimale first off the context and situation of trans rights in India vs west is probably very different and I am speaking regarding the scenario in the west only. The issue in the west, and perhaps you are aware of this, is that it doesn't stop at documents but extends to among other things: 1. The spaces one can enter 2. The section of sports one can compete in. 2. how one is Required by law to be addressed with any mistake being considered deliberate, abusive and criminal (especially in cases where individuals gender is extremely fluid across short time frames) leading to some elements misusing of this lack of clarity.

They have to undergo years of hormone therapy and decrease the testosterone below the typical female level. There are only few trans athletes who have won most being FTM trans men. There is ZERO law anywhere in the world where one is required to use other people's pronouns by force. ZERO. The situation is so bad that right wing Nazi are just blaming random shootings and accidents on trans folx.

For example, let's say you want to wear a gold saree/dress in public. You just want to wear it because it's your choice and you also love the colour of it because it represents your brightness to other people. Trump decides to take that choice of wearing that gold saree because he thinks it's too bothersome to understand the meaning of the saree. And hence, you are robbed of that choice to wear that saree. Just like how people who want to identify themselves as a different gender because they aren't comfortable in the identity they were given at birth is now being taken away from them.
