That’s my guess as well. The ruling from the first contempt hearing put him in notice that jail time is a possibility. Unfortunately, there have been more infractions that were not under consideration in the first ruling that happened before the ruling was given… so while I’m thinking it would be within Judge Merchan’s authority to hit Donald with jail time at the second hearing, I’m betting that at most he will send him to the holding cell over lunch with a stern warning that the next infraction will win DJT an overnight stay in a more prison like facility.

Oh, I think every lawyer who works for him by now knows they face a real chance of loosing their bar card. Think about the kind of lawyer who knows this but still works for him and lets themselves get pushed around by him. IIRC Finland does just that; all fines are set as a percentage of income, so an unemployed person pays a _lot_ less than a millionaire. Even so, the millionaire will recover more quickly financially, but it's a lot fairer.

It's unfortunate that the financial penalty for violating a gag order is limited to $1,000 per violation. I like the idea of increasing the financial penalties to be commensurate with the violator's wealth. With the Orangefuhrer claiming he has lots of money and that his wealth increased by over $1 billion with Truth Social, a financial penalty of $10 to $50 million per violation would be more appropriate.
