Just as western countries, founded on the belief in a Christian God are now more demonic than Christian, claiming "you've been to Greece and other "Christian" countries, were they are "just as bad" (as what?) is not meaningful. Russia is more indicative of an Eastern Orthodox society that is Greece. (Try not to drag in war issues, this is about the Faith) Again, the issue is not the deep theological debate, but the consistency of the message and the faith. As a one time Roman Catholic, it was the consistent, logical and straightforward message that drew me to Eastern Orthodoxy. The Roman Catholic church, never mind the protestant and other "christian" churches are out of communion with the original church, Eastern Orthodox. By gerrymandering the boundaries and changing the rules to make them more "attractive" they are doing the work of the evil one for him. People want consistent, meaningful faith that is true to the original message of Jesus, not massaged and blended to suit modern sensibilities and maintain attendance (which is not working...)

Afghanistan is a Sunni Islamic nation and so is Turkey, yet wildly different stances on social issues. Maybe the only distinct difference is the level of secularism on religion or the extent to which the average person is devout religious. Turkey is a very secular country and not many people are devout Muslims who follow every word of the Quran to the letter, yet the opposite is true in Afghanistan. That’s why we see such wild differences between them socially. It’s not a question of individual religion or denomination, it’s more to do with the extent to which people actually obey the religion to the letter. Oh you’re religious? How religious? Do you follow your holy book to the letter in reality? That’s what matters, and it just so happens that Orthodox Christian countries on average tend to follow their religious teachings to the letter a lot more than Catholic or Protestant nations.
