Please do not apologize for your passion - you’re my favorite channel because I am just as passionate about injustice, hypocrisy, and general bullshittedness I run into on a daily basis. So as a result, I was today years old when I became a member. I’ll do all I can to support your independent reporting! 🎉

As a 73 year old gay man, I appreciate your commentary today. I seem to remember students protesting other wars over the years....even occupying university buildings for MONTHS. As to the LGBTQIA+ youth, THE REASON why I came out of the closet at age 62 was because "queer geeky young people" were committing suicide and being tossed out of their homes. Every single kid that comes up to me and saying "Thank you for doing that" makes it all worthwhile.

I'm twenty years older than you, and I'll thank you too, for the difference you care to make in the world. I worked in the fashion industry in SF in the sixties, then went back to Seattle to get an interior design degree. I loved my gay friends and colleagues, and saw their struggles to deal with backward attitudes, especially with the advent of AIDS. A fellow designer in the store where I worked in the seventies finally came out in his forties. It was difficult for him, but he had a good safety net around him. Thank goodness he was in Seattle, and not back in the midwest, where so many friends had come from.

I "adopted" such kids when I was inmy twenties. I had six boys at one time, got them jobs, because their parents thought being on the street in NYC would scare the gay out of them. I was livid about that. They were teens. Kids. One night they got together and put together a number, a song and dance routine to "The Wendy Song" from Peter Pan. Thereafter, they called themselves "The Lost Boys".

I'm not one of those kids but I thank you for making the path easier for them. I too grew up through the 70s and 80s and considered myself lucky to have been raised to simply accept and not judge. My parents were very forward thinking and went against the views that they were raised on. I've known a couple of people that came out later in life and it's scary at any age but the young don't have the skills to deal with the anger and rejection from the closed minded people. Again thankyou 💜

@@chezmoi42 Many people have never studied the history of LGBTQIA+ laws and do not realize that people were put in jail (or worse) for "sodomy", and while sodomy laws are no longer prosecuted, like laws on abortion, they are still on the books in many states. I had hoped that we had crossed the Rubicon on issues like marriage equality and we could go on to other issues, but here we are being dragged backwards again. Also people do not seem to realize that most sodomy laws apply to anal sex, which an estimated 30% of heterosexual couples also practice.

No, not pro-Abrahamic religion, not by any means a genuine Christian, certainly not by any ennobling definition of that word (and as an aside, that commissioned image of him devoutly praying really gives me the creeps). As a broader comment, it's also correct that he has no appreciation ir understanding of the principles of the Western Enlightenment. And, he likes and cozies up to those who implement severe illiberality. Thus, of course, defend people who want genocide ("from the river to the sea, all Jews must die") and refuse support to those who stand up to it.

If John's preport about the police and their behavior towards nonviolent protesters then maybe someone should research the common response by the police to right wing protesters and the right wing extremist militants. As an example during the BLM protests there was militia members that walked around with weapons like an Ar-15 instead of hassling or stopping them the police just mention certain places they should stay away from. Which was in contrast to the BLM protesters where the police response was violent.

A lot of the lyrics are related to Geddy's parents, even though Neil Peart penned the majority. "Territories" is a song everyone should embrace. Protest is not always “peaceful”, students should be in college for an education, police walk into unknown and possibly dangerous situations every day, the world is a mess and life is not “fair”. Civil disobedience is a constitutional right, education is more than books, police are trained to exercise restraint but are also human, the world is better than it used to be, and people will never stop trying to make everything “fair”. Having been and seen all of those things, I’ve watched the world get worse and a little better everyday, but it’s not over ~ as Granny would say, “patience, Jackass, patience…if it was easy, it woulda been done already”.

We were not violent, we did not block people's pathways, we did not break into property and occupy it. To do any of those things would have contaminated our message, cheapened it, and moved the optics to an unrecoverable position. Breaking the law is crossing a line that puts a movement at risk and makes it easy to brush off and ignore.

No, he said kids, as in college kids, because this all went down on a college campus, where there are college kids, and most listeners use context when trying to understand the meaning of words being said. @@catherinegonzalezgallego5851 Also, he did not suggest using the phrase kids to allude that they have no responsibilities. The context, a word I just taught you, you're welcome, is the cops rushing in with guns drawn. On a bunch of college kids, which more likely than not are not extremist second amendment supporters carrying guns, and also unlikely to use violence against police. I don't have a huge issue with the cops carrying guns for their own protection, but it is over the top, and likely risks more casualties than preventing them. A protester could grab the gun. It could panick the protesters causing them to act irrationally. A cop could get spooked and fire indiscriminately into the room. Happens all the time. So a bad choice.
