As a German I find this whole ordeal kind of ridiculous. We had a wall dividing our country for 40 years. With soldiers shooting people who tried to cross it at sight and land mines 'protecting' it and people still tried and succeeded in getting on the other side. And the former border dividing Germany is nothing compared to the Mexican-American border. If people are desperate and want to get over it, they will get over it or die trying. How about you take those 5 Billion and try to fight some of that poverty in Mexico so people wont feel the need to run away from their homes instead. Or invest it into education and you might actually profit from those coming to you. Basically everything would be more useful than this wall..

kinda depressing that a random German citizen has more common sense than a modern day world leader. But you raised many good points. A wall won't make all of these "problems" vanish suddenly, and i think people forget that fact. If a person of high status says something involving statistics or comparisons, they take their word for it like it's written gospel and believe it to be completely true, when in reality those things happen within a country by it's own citizens. The thing about America is, we don't do anything for anybody unless it benefits us which is sorely wrong and demented, even if it's for our own people, there has to be ulterior motives. He wants 5.9 billion this year, but that's not the cost for the wall, it is only a starting point. They've already given over 1 billion for border security. The real cost of a wall is more than 20 billion as the project drags on. So if the House gives in now, expect the same conflict to happen every year! In the end, before starting a project it is wise to have the foresight to understand the total cost. Like building a bathtub, don't expect it to work very well if the project is not completed. The Republican House wouldn't pay last year, but Trump caved because he didn't want to highlight the division within the Republican party. To frame this as an 'us vs them' conflict is simple minded.

I was at the border in San Diego last summer and talked to a border agent, these people know what's really going on. The group I was with was given permission to walk across a kind of "no man's land" between fences (pre-trump), called Friendship Park, and come up to the wall directly between us and Mexico. They open it for a couple hours every week. You can reach your fingers through & touch people on the other side. He has been associated in numerous political scandals including trying to reduce the power and authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia...the commission which single handedly brought down setnov and his henchmen. Also the man between setnov and trump seems to be an indonesian politician. Knowing Indonesian politics and seeing these shady group of unpopular indonesian politicians standing behind trump I have to tell you, it does not bode well for both the US and Indonesia.
