@RvEijndhoven5 жыл бұрын
Eh, no. Andrew Yang is a capitalist who's realized just how inhumane capitalism is as a system and is now trying to find a fix for it that doesn't involve actually changing it. People talk a lot about his Freedom Dividend, but none of his supporters ever mention, perhaps none of them realize, that part of his proposal is cutting a load of existing social well fare programs as part of that. People who are on foodstamps, disability benefits or a low income housing subsidy? Yeah, under Yang's plan they're losing those and getting a flat sum of $1000 per month instead. For many of them, that's actually less than the support they're getting right now. And Yang is planning to pay for this with a VAT, something that always affects poorer people more. The Freedom Dividend doesn't help poor people. It helps people who think they now know true economic hardship because they slid from regular middle class to lower middle class after getting screwed over by capitalist corporations due to business practices focused on profit maximization. And while Yang has other good proposals, the Freedom Dividend/UBI is the only one that's unique to him (and it's unique to him because it's a terrible idea that could only come from someone who's never had *actual* money troubles, but who has occasionally had to pass over some luxuries).

I have never understood why people (aside from insurance companies and those with stakes in insurance companies) are so blind to the fact that nationalised healthcare is better economically. Without profit margins costs come down, such basic maths. Yes everyone will have to pay in, yes taxes will have to go up, but compared to what people pay in insurance they will be paying out less. It astounds me that a developed nation such as the USA puts money ahead of people’s welfare and that people who get seriously ill can become bankrupt on top of the stress of fighting for their lives. I wonder what studies have/should be done on the impact of financial hardship on survival rates of cancer, because I can imagine that not having to worry about how you will pay for your chemotherapy would alleviate stress and increase survival chances. “U.S. government entities spend more per-capita on health care than all but two other countries in the world. Watching from overseas that health care discussion seems so unreal...public health care was introduced in Germany in 1883, the same year as the brooklyn bridge was opened and Buffalo Bill's Wild West show premiered. And for those "That's socialism!" guys: That's 34 years prior to the first countries introducing actual socialism under the rule of communist parties.

During the late 1800s the socialists were a strong force in Germany, not the communists, there's a difference but it was a socialist proposed policy, doesn't mean it's wrong tho.

OTElron - Not having grown up in the USA, the debate seems surreal to me too. I can’t remember who wrote this, to credit them, but someone once expressed the situation well: in most of the world, the left and the right debate how to finance the social safety net, in the USA they debate whether to have a net at all!

Yeah. This is something that Jon Stewart really needs to explain to Trevor. Trevor (and his whole team?) seem to be *completey cluesless* that they are falling for all the traps and weaselwords that Harris, Gillibrand and Booker are throwing out. They never want to close the door for private insurance companys to keep trolling our medical system. No Trevor, they are absolutely not all having the basic same goal of universal healthcare. No. Not at all. Only Bernie and Liz are honest players when it comes to Medicare.

With Medicare for All tax payers will pay all 100% themselves. Tell me again that my costs will go down so my tax burden increase shouldn't matter.

I'm concerned that if they are elected that we will no longer have any public options for insurance. State run insurance in America would be clunky and ineffient at first. Then maybe it will improve, maybe. I support Medicare for those who want or need it but we need a public option too. We would also lose the house again crippling any plans as republicans block every single proposal just for spite and pettieness. If it comes down to Trump vs anyone. I'll vote against trump.
