As the Republican National Convention enters its third day, we speak with political science professor Clarence Lusane on how Donald Trump is trying to increase his appeal with Black voters. A number of Black lawmakers have spoken at the RNC, including South Carolina Senator Tim Scott and North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson. Lusane says that “Donald Trump never has anything positive to say about the Black community,” and that his effort to showcase diversity at the RNC is to “gaslight the Black community.”

@@frankr2584 I remember in the 70s I found out that the company I worked for had the receptionist mark a number in pencil on the back of every application people dropped off at their office. No email then lol. She wrote a 1 if they were white, 2 for blacks, 3 for Hispanics and 4 for Asians/anybody else. This way the Human Resources manager could weed out applicants without even giving them an interview. This was outside NYC, not in the south. We made progress because we were forced to and still people who don’t even know how their whiteness worked for them often insist no one ever helped them. They did it all on their own…or did they? They’ve been using this same of old story about affirmative action for decades. No company hires someone unqualified because they are black. It’s absurd. They just say no minorities or women who were qualified applied and that’s generally that. If there is a black applicant and a white applicant who are equally qualified, then and only then should a company try to give the minority a shot. No unqualified applicants get hired because of affirmative action or the new terminology, DEI. It’s all a load of the same old bull they’ve been slinging forever and I’m damn sick of people falling for this still.

Every time I see roads being fixed and construction on bridges and buildings in my state I am so very proud to see all of the black men working those high paying jobs. All due to President Biden’s Build Back Better Construction bill.
