@Hooloovoo are you kidding? At least in Florida you can mark the stupid and avoid them like dog poop on the sidewalk. Like most northern cities, Boston is famous for subtler racism. Ever hear of the Combat Zone? We just are a little more careful than the old south. I grew up in the 1970s and 80s and I heard all the slams. On every group. Ugly comments phrased as jokes followed up by indifference. Like Lucy and the football, it seemed more cruel to give grand promises then sabotage the efforts. It hasn't really changed as far as I see. The most decayed and violent neighborhoods are inhabited by those shut out of better schools and better jobs then blamed for the conditions they live in. Maybe it's changing but it's very slow change. And figures like Charlie Baker can't even fix the trains. He isn't even looking at affordable housing as rents go high in completely gentrified "safe" neighborhoods.

This is important. It will set the bar for other states to give back a basic American right to vote. Yes, I have a felon in prison. We can go there if anyone wants to, yet, he will be a man with informed opinions and a knowledge of politics. To double punish is against the foundations of our judicial system. They serve their time, stay out of trouble, come out to be normal citizens, yet get treated as second class citizens forever. Give them the right to vote.

This issue confounds me on one basic principle: So many hardcore Republican lawmakers talk a good game about how America is a "Christian country" (despite historical evidence to the contrary), and we should have God included in all things (including State affairs). And yet, when you suggest exhibiting the Christian concept of mercy, and allowing one to atone for their sins (felony crimes) and return to being a full, contributing member of society once again, these same lawmakers lose their minds. I don't remember a line in the Bible about being allowed to pick and choose which teachings you felt like following; apparently I missed that section. :/

@@ErykaSoleil Modern Christianity has bastardized just about everything to do with Jesus of Nazareth. He was a Middle Eastern Hebrew, and they depict him as a Norseman. He praised humility and preached against excess, but it's all fancy clothes and ostentatious architecture these days (don't even get me started on the blasphemy that is the "prosperity gospel"). And as you pointed out, he called for love and mercy, and they fall over themselves to suppress and subvert the people who need love and mercy most. It wasn't 5 years ago that I was a devout Catholic myself. The hypocrisy isn't what drove me away, but it is what ensures that I'll never go back.

Bizarre that the statute of limitations on most felonies to even charge someone is way less than the 17 years to get your right to vote back after you're paid your dues. Shows that rehabilitation is not a serious consideration. Prisons are designed to punish and make money, especially with privatization. I get the punishment part but it should fit the crime. When the sentence is done someone has to have a way to start again

Felons who have finished their sentences should regain their right to vote. It's an incentive for them to reintegrate into society. Ex-cons need jobs and a sense of community to help them assimilate back into society; otherwise, they often have difficulty adjusting and end up falling back among criminal elements, those who give them a feeling of belonging.

Florida amendments have always been set up like this. They always bundle stuff that shouldn't be bundle. I remember having to decide were adoption becomes easier or allowing gays to visit their love ones in the hospital. They were bundle together for no reason, this was back in 2008.

The women didn't actually accuse Meuller. The woman were approached over e-mail to accuse Mueller and one of the women just forwarded the e-mail to Mueller's team. The women did the right thing. The plot was developed by a right wing conspiracy theory group. The Young man is a well know Trump enthusiast and he got help from a Trump booster to help finance the plot or pay the potential women that would make the accusations. The plot was not very complicated. Initial investigations found the young man and a fake intelligence firm was traced back to a number owned by the young man's mom.

Yep. On one hand I think an active shooter who takes several lives should have everyone who's ever cared about him incarcerated for life as well. But on the other that still wouldn't deter these psycho lunatics. Even having dear old mom and dad and maybe Grandma and Grandpa and/or their children locked up for life wouldn't matter because they don't worry about consequences before the crime is committed.

If you vote by party on different days the ruling party can identify you and single out opposition party members for retaliation or voter suppression - eliminate the secret ballot and you've come a long way towards phasing in authoritarian rule.
