The fees levied by the Panama Canal Zone operators are based on the type of ship, it's lengths, it's estimated gross weight, and it's cargo - it is NOT levied by country or government, nor does it give discounts or show favoritism to one country over another. President elect Trump claiming that the US is not getting a 'fair deal' or that the Panama Canal is showing favoritism to China is just another one of his falsehoods that his supporters have chosen to believe, rather than what the facts show. Furthermore, the UK and Canada are also NATO members and as part of the commonwealth, they will therefore be backed by the entire Commonwealth. A drought has caused limited traffic and recent rate increases on the Panama Canal and this isn't just recent news. There is even talk of using other methods to get goods across by rail. The canal needs adequate rainfall to function. There have been some attempts to recover the fresh water and that takes energy. Panama should be a country we are very interested in for investments, along with Costa Rica, Mexico and others to provide jobs and attract migrants. Why is the US shipping cotton thru the Panama Canal, so people in Asia can make textiles. The Americas are centrally located in the world for trading with the east, or west. Europe has Suez problems with Asia, China is the source of the fentanyl with India catching up and they have never come close to inspecting enough trade to prevent mass import. Only countries policing their controlled substances, which isn't hard to do, can prevent drug smuggling and I think China has used fentanyl as a weapon, by not preventing export. It should be very easy to control in China. You need labs and scientist to make even the chemicals just before fentanyl. Many controlled substances.
