I love that all three are anti-Trump and doing “god’s” work (I’m not particularly religious, but went to church every Sunday for like 15 years, so the first half of my life), but we rarely get to hear where they are overall in a political/issues-specific sense. I have to agree. It seems to me that the persuadable voters in the Republican Party are probably now declaring themselves as independents. So you are getting more and more group think among the declared Republican focus groups. Overall I think there is too much focus on the MAGA crowd. And re: the Twitter DM stuff. Remember, the DOJ had to get a warrant. Which means they had to make a pretty strong case to a judge that they would find evidence of a crime. Not just Trump exchanging small talk with celebrities or shit-talking a co-conspiritor. It also means the DOJ had to have a damn good source who _knew_ what was in Trump's DMs. Judge won't grant warrants for fishing expeditions and Jack Smith would never take the chance of coming up empty, lest he look like he was going on a fishing expedition.

The Republican candidates who continue to defend and align with Trump are doing nothing more than wasting time and campaign money. I would love to see at least one of them stick their head up above the parapet wall and tell booing Trump voters that they do not want their vote. They should be trying to attract independents and non-Trump voters if they were at all serious about winning the nomination. As a Democrat, though, I hope they continue to march like lemmings over the cliff. Vote Blue in 2024! Go Team Biden!

I hope this isn’t taken too out of context, but one of the most fascinating class I took as an undergraduate was “Death, Dying and Religion”. Part of that course involved studying the Holocaust and Fascism. What I remembered from that lecture was that authoritarian regimes never solved any problems, but they were very skilled in identifying a problem and then blaming a group of people, usually “Those Others”, who caused “the problem”. The solution was always put forth that by eliminating “Those Others” it would solve “the problem”. A hallmark of authoritarian regimes is that there is always a problem and the population always riled up and so the society can never be really stable because they lurch from problem to problem. Because in order to control their population, the authorities always needed them riled up. There was always a trace of this in Republican politics since Nixon, but it has fully developed and eaten the Republican Party whole with Trump.

I know 5 people that have died from drug overdoses. 4 from my high school, 1 met from the local music scene. I know another person who was friends with one of the four is currently clean and she became a drug/alcohol counselor. My dad’s best friend is also one. There was also another kid from school that self-deleted and my best friend was hospitalized a couple times for self-harm. I’m only 33 and I’m from Cincinnati. There are definitely significant problems…
