You guys are awesome! As a Norwegian, current U.S Politics is hillarious and frightening at the same time. 😂
@bradhirsch4845 Жыл бұрын
It's mostly frightening. I dont believe we were laughing at you when you were threatened by the nazis and the Soviets. We protected you. Now youre laughing at us. Without us, you'll be gobbled up by the Putin regime. If the MAGAS prevail here, that's carte blanche for the red army to destroy Norway and the rest of Europe. The entire free world is pulling for President Biden to be re-elected and for Democrats to win the congress as well. Republicans and socialists are in bed with the kremlin.

Chris Christie dominating the debate is a GOOD THING! The longer he lasts in the race, the more time and attention he gets for his anti-Trump, truth message. He'll never be the nominee but he may be able to act as the GOP's conscience and necessary corrective. He doesn't have to reprogram many in the GOP to ensure a Dem victory in 2024.
@jimallen8084 Жыл бұрын
I agree. I get that it's almost certainly too late for Christie to make a positive difference in terms of denying Trump the nomination, but if he were to fatally wound one or more of Trump's fake rivals, I can't see that as anything but a good thing. The way I see it, Trump is campaigning against the DOJ, Alvin Bragg and Fani Willis, and benefits greatly by having his supposed rivals running defense for him. Taking them out helps expose his bullshit for what it is.

I still cannot believe that we treat Trump like a legitimate candidate. If Obama had even one felony count he would be done. This country has fallen into a hole that looks like it will never get out of. I am glad I am moving to Portugal next spring.

I’d like to see a series of podcasts devoted to the questions that Sarah and Tim raised toward the end of this episode: How did it happen that Republicans-not just the MAGA extremists, but Republicans in general-became viscerally incapable of taking responsibility for the evil in their midst? And where is the host of elected Republican leaders who won’t be on the ballot in November 2024 and therefore are in a position to come together as a group to speak out forcefully, and at least try to beat back this evil? I think you are going to find that the answer to both questions is largely the same. The rabid base can’t find it within itself to take responsibility for the consequences of its words and actions, because Republican leaders have haven’t found it within themselves to take responsibility for their part in the radicalization of the base. And the Republican leaders can’t find the wherewithal to confront the evil and danger that has taken hold all around them among their constituents, because they don’t want to confront their own part in cultivating this evil that threatens now to destroy them. Republicans want to avoid responsibility for what they have created. Until they do that, and do it without equivocation, the fire will continue to burn. Talk about that-get right to the heart of the matter, rather than nibbling around the frivolous edges, chatting blithely about who is going to do what to whom at the debate, in New Hampshire, in Iowa. Talk about what really matters, before it doesn’t matter anymore.

It wouldn't be surprising if Trump's lawyers talked him into the pretaped format, to prevent him from damaging himself in any of the court cases. If he speaks off the cuff to a live crowd, you know there's a danger he'll go there.

I didn’t watch the debate, but I did watch the Bulwark crew post match analysis, actually before I watched this. Regarding Tim’s comment that Christie could dominate by shading everyone, it seems that the format would make this difficult given 8 candidates and 100 minutes airtime (I believe?). Give or take, this is a ‘debate’ where each candidate gets 12 minutes to talk across two hours.

I think Chris Christie, if he his totally dominant, he could really blow this out of the water and be the lead story. It's all about contrast and a narrative - If he comes out swinging hard and completely lays to waste the absurdity of the whole situation of the GOP (exactly what Trump did in 2016) and DJT and "owns the libs" (which just makes him another MAGA type candidate), I think that will be the big story.

Towards JVL’s comment at time stamp 10:49. The form of capitalism that is currently in America can and is that stupid. Think about it. How many times have these capitalists been bailed out by the Federal Government? The day they decided to buy politicians to eliminate their competitions was the day they became fat & lazy. Capitalism only functions when market forces punish you for making mistakes. But if you own Politicians who constantly bail you out and knock-off your competitors, yeah, you get lazy. Crony capitalism turned the jungle into a bubble wrapped okay ground with foam padding everywhere and police watching your every step to make sure you don’t get a boo-boo. Want an example? Trump bailed out the cruise line industry during Covid-19. He bailed out the airlines during Covid-19. Not convinced? How heavily subsidized is every industry via low taxes and/or special loopholes in the tax code. FFS, they allowed investment banks to become retail banks so they could get more federal money during 2008. AIG was bailed out

12:25 I think Christie ironically has the strongest chance to become Trumps biggest competitor in this race. If we agree that Desantis is weak and definitely not winning and that Viveck is just to young, fringy etc and that the rest of the group are boring and weak just trying to get VP then Christie has an opportunity to look like he’s just more talented more alpha even if they disagree with him and eventually if everyone else are inherently weak personalities then none of them will get traction, and Christie will demonstrate that in a general election he is actually Joe Bidens worst nightmare because if you take trump out of the picture the maga base has shown the won’t just worship a new cult leader but they may make a calculated decision about weather they actually think Vivek or Christie has a better chance of beating Biden or the gop base just gets more dispersed as this weak group drop out but more shit happens to trump to make him unviable or maybe he con’s the DOJ into immunity for not running. Which would actually be his greatest con to live the rest of his days playing golf
