Our chapel started praying a special Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (a prayer of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque recited by Padre Pio everyday for those who requested his prayers) for the welfare and protection of our country. People need to be reminded that pragmatism can be immoral. The early Christians were martyred rather than cooperate with the pragmatism of the day and offer just a tiny pinch of incense to the genius of the emperor. They were also prohibited from being actors because they had to perform in plays that promoted the pagan gods. Similarly, a true Christian cannot cooperate with evil even for a good end. Yes, we dodged a bullet and got a reprieve. But remember before you start celebrating that it came at the cost of throwing people who haven't started to breathe under the bus, and endorsement of disordered unions. No civilization that has supported either has survived. This country is greatly in need of conversion and repentance, so keep praying and doing penance.
